Psychiatry has always been hodgepodge desu, you can't get inside someone's mind to validate hypotheses so it isn't even scientific to begin with. I'm convinced psychiatry/psychology was and is promoted in large part due to the pharma lobby since it's one of the most reliable ways of getting people to regularly buy new medication. Believe it or not I knew several people who went into both psychology and med then psychiatry back in uni and through them I met more people in those fields and was exposed to their daily lives to some extent, there is a ton of shit they just make up it's actually insane. I've seen stuff like an introverted kid being diagnosed with schizophrenia and medicated for it when really his only issue was he didn't fit in with any social groups where he lived, when he moved he found people who liked the same hobbies he did and became more outgoing as a result. But the "experts" kept insisting he was schizo because their textbooks told them behaviors A, B and C were described under schizophrenia (and of course the need to turn everything into a pathology to sell their snake oil)
