As in you have to choose skills you DON'T want to be central part of your character as major skills or you're gimping your character potential. Didn't play further nor look for mods to fix it. Might do so some day.

I do agree that people who act like you HAVE to in oblivion need to get gud, even though it's leveling system is pretty ass. The autistic lizard part of my brain just loved seeing those 100's all lined up when I hit lvl 25, plus it was cool getting even more with that shivering isles addiction exploit. Min maxing in Morrowind is far more nerdy and autistic because you become a god either way.

>>38596707Personally, I don't think it's the leveling that's actually the problem, it's the level scaling. It's pretty similar to Morrowind in a lot of ways, but Morrowind didn't have nearly as much scaling, it rewarded you for leveling up but grinding wasn't necessary. In oblivion you'll get giga fucked if you don't level the "right way," which oftentimes also means you need to become a mage. Doing the efficient leveling means that so far I haven't gone under half health except for the battle of kvatch, which I did at level 27 (which I've been at for around 150 in game days) while being an altmer battle mage/paladin sort of character. Also all the kvatch guards immediately died, was kind of funny how quickly they got utterly stomped.

>>38592475everyone forgets about arena. unironically i think arena is one of the best elder scrolls games. it's way less of a buggy mess, had a focused direction in the form of pretty much pure dungeon crawling, and it did it well, having fun dungeons that don't feel completely miserable. daggerfall dungeons are extremely ass, and morrowind has garbage combat. oblivion's leveling is retarded, and skyrim dumbed everything down too much. i think all the games are alright, but there's no world where oblivion sucks and morrowind and daggerfall are the best. i think people confuse the games doing a particular thing well to having the whole game be good. daggerfall has a more immersive fantasy life than the other games. morrowind has well-written npcs and an interesting world. oblivion has retardation and funny. i'll still go out on a limb and say that arena and skyrim are the best two games because they actually manage to be more overall good games than the rest.
