i get this every time. its a depot. thats why its called a depot shot. like in the birth control name depo-provera. the whole reason its an ester is because its an oil. like how drugs will be named drugname hydrochloride because its a salt which makes it water soluble and you can eat it or IV it.

valerate comes from Valeric acid aka pentanoic acid which has 5 carbon chain. its a "fatty acid ester" just like how any other fat is a long carbon chain and has an acid form. enanthate has a 7 carbon chain undecylate has an 11 carbon chain cypionate has a 3 carbon chain and a little five sided carbon ring.

the longer chain means it takes longer for your body to break down or separate it from the estradiol. when theyre together they are stable and unusable and they dissolve into your fatty tissue and make the lump and just kinda sit there with the other fat. but then over time your body breaks it down and it dissolves into your blood stream.

if you notice the lump gets smaller over the week. but like with een its only half gone by 7 days, which means the rate of release starts to drop off cause theirs less material dissolving every hour and thats about when it reaches critical and you need to re-up to keep the level stable. thats why valerate has a half life of 3 days enanthate and cypionate have 7 and undecylate is like 30 or something so you can pick and choose for convenience and frequency and stability

They're not awful but they need to go through the digestive system, which is not made for that. hormones are meant to go from the production straight into delivery systems. it's a really small extra step, but that leads to differing levels between dif people, poor absorption in comparison to injections, and an impact on liver function. that's a kind of uphill struggle, as the E affects the liver, it gets worse at mobilizing, and on and on. Theres a ton of interesting biology and nuance to this, and i'm both glossing over it and ignoring it because I don't trust pills. in the event that anything from logistics to legality creates friction in the process of getting hrt to people who need it, one option leaves you dry in less than a month depending on the script, and the other could at least be reliable for three months if not a year.

It depends entirely on what you value, intelligence is a nebulous concept tbhfesu. What I can say is that if you're dysphoric enough to desire hrt you're probably severely depressed[1] and that can cause long-term brain damage through impairments to memory, volition, executive functioning, reasoning, etc[2] (even though depressives tend to have greater than average analysis). Not to mention the metabolic consequences of those things, malnutrition, which can cause severe neural and nervous system damage as well. So treating that will be better for your "intelligence", in the sense of not being majorly depressed and the kind of stupidity that comes with that. I will also add that in a more unorthodox way, hrt causes you to have a great deal of experiences that lead to extremely rare insight into the human condition. Without getting too mystical about it, you begin to see through the lines and think about / through things that people don't really question and tend to only have superficial thoughts on. Eventually, you learn to apply this knowledge in ways that almost register as supernatural.

The caveat is that many of these experiences can also be highly traumatizing and that itself can be damaging. But these are secondary, social effects. Immediately speaking, hrt causes you to undergo a second puberty (if an adult) and worsens your intelligence in the typical ways that teenagers are stupid. It places you in new contexts without the same background of experience as most others in them which can also make you *seem* very stupid. And you will be treated this way for that alone, regardless of how much reasonable thought you actually put into your actions.

There are studies showing some interesting things about transgender brains and intelligence, namely that they tend to be higher intelligence in ways closer to their desired sex (high verbal for mtfs and high spatial for ftms), and our brain structures tend to be closer even before hrt[3].

I have seen studies like that and I find them to be very interesting, of course i’ll never know how my brain already since it’s hard to imagine the intelligence of anyone else. I absolutely have noticed at least emotional changes

The reason I asked this is I’m a sperg and losing intelligence is one of my biggest fears, it’s why I don’t drink or smoke and try to stay away from junk food or things like coffee and soda. It’s also way besides hrt i’ve never really used medicine. The way my head works seems like such a big part of being me. I love being more emotional on hrt, just a general decrease in intelligence is my fear due to drugs being scary and that im diying. I suppose my fear is that long term there could be some issue from being on drugs for a while but this is probably silly since there are many very intelligent trans women out there. And perhaps the anti androgen has some kind of effect (i use bicalutamide). From all my reading I couldn’t find anything showing a decrease in intelligence though, I did find what you said about the brains being more alike to the gender you are transitioning to

The cypro dose is ok for the beginning, but you should try to cut it to 6.25mg every two or even three days asap if possible. The EV at 4mg is pretty low, you probably won't get over 100pg/ml e2 which should be the goal. Is there any reason you don't just do mono with injections?
