I typically won't spend more than $10 for a folio or any modern post war book. It's a good idea to look in second hand shops, nearly all of my folios were cheap, some as low as .50 cents. The exceptions were gibbon and the anatomy of melancholy which were 30 and 50.

Ehrman:
>active college professor in the american south
>has written books for popular audiences, serious scholarly work meant for academics, as well as college textbooks
>discusses materials from his books in interviews
>despite being an atheist in a christian domianted field, he is personal friends with many christian writers, doesn't shy away from his views but maintains respect and admiration for christianity
>clearly denotes what is scholarly consensus and what is his personal opinion, both in writing and in interviews
>is able to maintain sizable following from both chrisitans, atheists and others who just happen to be insterested in his field of study
>only people that dislike him are religious fundamentalists that hate his field and "science" in general (for a psychiatrist this would be the equivalent of being hated by scientologists)
Peterson
>honestly no clue what he does when not writing or appearing in interviews
>has only published books for popular audiences
>refuses to discuss what's in his books in interviews other than vaguely hinting at it being lifesaving wisdom in hopes people buy them to find out
>despite his field being almost entirely removed from religion, feels the need to go to comical lenghts to dodge any questions regarding his faith or lack thereof, seemingly out of fear of losing clout or offending his fans?
>states everything as thought it's absolute truth, regardless if it's a hot take or consensus
>disliked by basically everyone in his field and a sizable portion of the general population, "love him or hate him" basically

To add to what you're saying, Ehrman is pretty clear on the differences between the Greek version of Thomas, which seems more similar to the Canonical Gospels in certain ways, and the Coptic version, which is more obviously Gnosticizing in a later developed way.

Grey moralism killed literature, most heinous acts in history were committed out of naive idealism but cynics would have you believe nobody could *really* believe in communism or free markets. The idea that people were too smart to disagree with our western liberal ideas is a scourge on literature

The Night King first of all should not exist. Secondly, Arya's "training" in Braavos is a mummer's farce, she never fully committed to it and the fact she killed one of their own and just got to leave makes no sense. And in my retarded opinion it should have been the Kingslayer.

>Season 8's ending being mediocre on top of being rushed
It was obvious D&D were done with telling GoT's story, so they rushed it towards the end, disregarding the original story.
The Dance of Dragon's book had massive open ends within the story.
Barristan Selmy taking control of the defenses of the city of Meereen.
Victarion Greyjoy with Moqorro, and his Iron fleet, aligning himself with Danaerys, sailing towards the defence of Meereen.
Aegon Targaryan landing in Southern-Westeros with the Golden Company, possibly being aided by the Martell family in Dorne.
Lady Stoneheart capturing and hanging Brienne and Jaime Lannister.
The Manderly house telling Davos that the North remembers it's betrayals and the Frey's and Bolton's will be getting their due punishment.

Kastrups upcoming new book seems like an interesting divergence from his previous writings. I read his most recent book which I thought was pretty good so i hope this will be of similar quality. I hope it’s not just some social justice adjacent crap about giving resources to third word parasites. Kastrup does seem to have some liberal/leftist tendencies to him and doesn’t seem very in touch with the online political and philosophical zeitgeist. so I could see it ending up being something like that. Hopefully the message is something more profound and honorable than that, something grounded in the divine and hard active virtues and ideals; duty and greatness and excellence.

Description:
>We, Western minds, have forgotten who we are, despite having never once stopped being who we are. We’ve lost touch with the impersonal, Daimonic forces that give us direction and the sacrificial nature of our existence. No longer do we realize that our lives aren't, have never been, and will never be about ourselves. Consequently, we've lost our ability to sense the immanent context that couches our lives in meaning and purpose. Our alienation from our own inborn nature and role has led to a tragic schism: a divorce between essence and narrative, being and action. This book is an effort to help heal this schism. It’s about re-encountering our natural selves and guiding Daimon, re-tuning into the archetypal dispositions we embody, and re-learning how to navigate the choppy waters of life in a spontaneous and fulfilling manner.

Why do materialists seethe at him?
Anyways, Kastrup engages with Schopenhauer so he's gotta be somewhat sympathetic to some chud ideals. God i hate that word. Internet mind poison.

>he's gotta be somewhat sympathetic to some chud ideals.
No he definitely is. I had a professor friend who had an email correspondence with him once and he said Bernardo would make very suggestive jokes about never going south because of all the “monkeys” let loose in france, and on another occasion call Marx “massa of the academic monkeys.”

>>24628566
Yeah he pulls from Schopenhauer. As well as Jung, analytic philosophy (obviously), as well as eastern metaphysics.
I’ve only read his most recent book so far and while I don’t agree with everything he says I still respect his ideas.

I was under the impression that the W sound was already fading or had largely faded by the last decades of golden age Latin.
>>
I was surprised to see that some sentences have no capital first letter in Cambridge Latin Course and Oxford Latin Course. Why?
>>
>>24628384
They're only capitalizing proper nouns. The most likely reason is they don't want you to mistake a common noun at the beginning of a sentence for a proper noun. ("Who is this character named Coquus?")
>>
>>24628384
There isn't really any rule for capitalization in Latin. Sometimes it's the beginning of every sentence, or sometimes just the beginning of every paragraph, or sometimes only proper nouns. Depends on the publisher and the book
>>
>>24628439
Clear capitalization rules are only fairly recent anyways. Even as late as the 18th century you see weird things (like the US Constitution)

Public education is a sham and all that's required is rote regurgitation of the materials - overassigned - which never allow for one to have the time to explore one's interests, and never do anything in depth to satisfy a happenstance intellectual passion. Zoomer's are their Gen X parents children-- it's bullshit and not for the overwhelming mass of them.

please elaborate. I've wondered for years if slop was just YA, or just webnovels, or just anything without enough description. I need to know the true nature of slop. It's made me stop writing for want of finding the true nature of cringe, edge, slop, all these terms. Are things just doomed to fall into one of the three categories after 20 years? Darkly Dreaming Dexter, Red Dragon, both successful but criticized for being edgy. Will I just end up being the same inevitably?
