Yeah, it's fine, I wouldn't listen to philosophy because that requires a lot of pausing and going back, but for a novel it's fine as long as you aren't distracted while doing it. On the treadmill at the gym for instance you are just as attentive as reading, or for me more attentive.
>>
I tried listening to audiobooks and hated it. Reading is much faster and you can quickly double take a paragraph or go back to a reference.
It's like interfacing with a phone computer versus desktop computer. You can compute so much better on a desktop/laptop, phones feel like shit.

It's not amateur, its professional, thats why its bad

Dilettanti, dilettanti! This is the slighting way in which those who pursue any branch of art or learning for the love and enjoyment of the thing,—per il loro diletto, are spoken of by those who have taken it up for the sake of gain, attracted solely by the prospect of money. This contempt of theirs comes from the base belief that no man will seriously devote himself to a subject, unless he is spurred on to it by want, hunger, or else some form of greed. The public is of the same way of thinking; and hence its general respect for professionals and its distrust of dilettanti. But the truth is that the dilettante treats his subject as an end, whereas the professional, pure and simple, treats it merely as a means. He alone will be really in earnest about a matter, who has a direct interest therein, takes to it because he likes it, and pursues it con amore. It is these, and not hirelings, that have always done the greatest work.
Schopenhauer

Why not? Lizzo played Thomas Jefferson's flute. Barack Obama hangs out with Bruce Springsteen, why are you acting like Jonathan Franzen can only hang out with Ph.D.s lol.

But let's concede the point. Just imagine Milton said he genuinely thought Trump had some good ideas. You think the strength of his writing would prevail over ideological favoritism? I think you've enjoyed getting to play the troll and say all conservatives are drooling retards too dumb to read or write books, but I think you're being dishonest if liberal publishers wouldn't be deeply tempted to suppress work of artistic merit if it came from ideological opponents.

I really do believe, in my heart, that if a beautifully written story came across your desk, and a conservative wrote it, you would reject it and think you did a morally good thing. Your side has lost to Trump twice because people sense you're too supercilious to admit you're malicious, and too malicious to admit you're supercilious.
>>
>>25191130
Milton probably would think that Trump had some good ideas, he's Milton. Strong conservative elements to his thought. But he's John Milton. He'd get recognized. There's no conservative or liberal cultural figure today that's equal to Milton, so I don't really know where you're going with this. You're going to accuse me of playing dumb -- I get what you're trying to say, but the idea that Lizzo playing Jefferson's flute or Obama hanging out with Springsteen is equivalent to Milton chatting with Kid Rock is ridiculous. Do you only see culture in terms of ideological affiliation or something?
>all conservatives are drooling retards too dumb to read or write books
All of them? Nah, there's some great conservatives out there. Eliot, McCarthy, Yeats, if we're grouping them in terms of conservative/liberal. Trumptards are absolutely too retarded to read/write good books though. This persecution fantasy you've got going where there's a heartbreaking work of trumptardian genius that's being silenced by evil liberal publishers is laughable. Could a conservative write good literature? Absolutely, yes. Could a trumptard, the mass of the US right-wing? They don't give a shit to begin with

The universe will continue to spread and spread outward. Entropy will turn a chaotic infinity into a homogeneous controlled system. This will take billions of years and in that time humans will push technology to heights we can't imagine. We'll explore and inhabit space and occupy more and more of the universe, just as time allowed our ancestors to multiply in numbers and populate more and more of the Earth. And as the specific people come and go, their physical bodies will be born, and grow, and die. But their thoughts will remain. And Jim Davis' comics, his glorious Garfield comics, are recorded ideas of his that will still be here. Even when the Earth is no longer inhabitable, and humanity has long since moved away to bigger planets, they'll carry with them a record, a record we all keep ... a never-ending feed of ideas, immortal ideas, forever placed in the ether of dualism.

this dude's ok. The only tolerable one I've found but I can't say I've looked too hard. Talks a bit about what he liked about the book, references a few lines, then brings up some other books that he saw some parallels to.
I genuinely don't know the point of most book reviews desu, most of them are just summaries with maybe a line or two at the end saying if they liked it or not. I really don't know who that's even for, because if you read the book you don't need a summary, and if you didn't then what are you doing reading a summary? It seems to be mostly an exercise for the author of the review, and there's nothing one can gain from that.
If you can find a college lecture on youtube of the book you want some discussion on, that seems to be the best place imo

In that cramped interval between his fingers' faltering insistence and the floor's mute expectancy, the cylindrical burden already half‑forgotten as an object and remembered only as the fleeting damp it had impressed upon his palm described its reluctant descent, a kind of minor abdication enacted with all the misplaced ceremony of something that had never belonged to his grasp in the first place. —Oh hi Anon.

Doomers win
>>
>>25189450
The idea that we can't grow without starving was sold by the Bilderberg elites. The economic conditions of modern capitalism was designed by these same elites. The "doomer" generations of teenagers arose from these conditions and they were sold this doomer literature and lots of drugs.

The Epstein class have been found out, more than ever, and they're unleashing the Zionist plans which will destroy the fragile interdependence of international shipping and cause a lot of shortages and they hope starvation.
Do you seriously want them to win? These child raping cannibals should be killed.
