>The New Testament in the Original Greek (Westcott & Hort, 1881) + English Renderings
Westcott & Hort’s Greek NT was largely modeled on Vaticanus, with Sinaiticus as a secondary witness. Various English translations have been made from this text (often public domain now), and these are essentially Vaticanus-centered renderings.

>Henry Barclay Swete’s The Old Testament in Greek (3 vols., 1887–1909)
Based heavily on Codex Vaticanus (B), with Sinaiticus and Alexandrinus consulted. Exactly the same Alexandrian philosophy WH used in the NT — but applied to the OT Greek text. Still widely referenced, and the basis for much LXX scholarship until the Göttingen LXX.
>>
>>24632173
Btw, I think the American Standard Version (NT only editions) are the best renderings of Westcott & Hort's Greek NT.
>>
>>24632190
Btw, I don't read the Textus Receptus. It was compiled later in the 16th century whereas the Codex Sinaiticus and Codex Vaticanus were among the earliest near complete Gnostic/early Christian texts.
>>
>>24632214
Btw, the Codex Sinaiticus and Codex Vaticanus predate the major textual interpolations and doctrinal edits found in later medieval manuscripts (e.g., the Textus Receptus). This proximity gives scholars closer access to the original textual traditions that shaped early Christian and proto-Gnostic thought.

For certain things that's definitely true. Later manuscripts for example had edits done to make them fit for liturgical reading. A lot of differences are changes from things like "he said" to "Jesus said," for example. For other matters it's questionable how much these texts actually represent an earlier text form IMO. There's an old argument from the 19th century that I've always felt held water and that you never see sufficiently addressed, which is that it was more likely for a manuscript with errors to survive somewhere given that it would not be used, whereas a manuscript being used would wear out and be lost. Just a thought. Anyway there's a reason modern scholars follow an eclectic approach and compare the different textual traditions against each other, including the early translations we have into languages like Syriac.

Emily Wilson will be retranslating The Odyssey... again.

The hype starts NOW.

The style and vision is too similar between each in a way that can't be replicated. Take the Bible or Arabian Nights which was very obviously written by multiple different people and compare it to Homer's work which is the product of one artist.
>>
>>24632290
>style and vision
Can you be less vague?
Bible or Arabian Nights are composite written(!) works which is a very different tradition.
& just to be clear, I wasn't even necessarily arguing that more than one artist worked on each poem. But that the Iliad and the Odyssey were composed by different poets.

[something pithy and engaging]

Tomorrow morning 10:00am BTS the Character and Theme requirements of Lit’s writing competition will be released.

You will have until Monday 23:59 BTS to write and submit. (that’s an extra half day from the other comps.)

Submit via rentry.co – you can change the url of your submission to your story name to be identified easily.

Your writing must reflect the Character and Theme requirements – the character requirement doesn’t have to be your main character and the theme can be creatively interpreted, but those who just ignore it will not be voted for.

No word count, but anything over three thousand is most likely going to drag and no one wants to read your novel.

To submit, reply in the thread with your rentry.co url using a tripcode (Namefield: Name + “#” + Password).

If you submit you should leave meaningful feedback for at least two other stories. Put in what you want back. There aren’t many places on this planet to get raw, no filter feedback, and it’s the best way to keep sharp and improve.

My favorite janny handiwork... you have been banned. for this post. I read it? Not even my post. not even at fault for the claim. One time I just said "I don't think so" and I was banned on that post for "racism outside of some other faggy board". Not sure how jannies think.

I'm willing to embrace this reality when I get there. I know after I'm done with my own pass through some "actual professional editor" is going to rip the whole thing to shreds, if it ever gets that far.

But for now, I'm pleasantly surprised to see the middle section be "not compositionally shit" like the first third.

On Writing was great, but King clearly wrote it with horror/thriller/suspense in mind (very character-driven; he says he doesn't even like to plan the plot).
I'm writing fantasy, so I'd like a book with advice on structure, pacing, and large-scale plot construction.

That it's supposedly about Hitman of all things is what strikes me the weirdest. It wouldn't be the slightest bit surprising if it was about anime, Final Fantasy or Zelda, since that's exactly the kind of stuff girls like this are typically into. Hitman is just so no girlfic material unless it's somehow referencing the movie.

>Without Israel, everything is permitted. Dostoevsky once said that without God, everything is permitted. This holds true for civil society, and in the profound crisis we live in today, Israel holds the same place for international society. The international community. They are not merely the most moral army in the world, their existence as a state is the moral linchpin of international politics, the Dostoevskyian order

No, what you really mean is that jews have murdered more people under the guise of atheism than any of their other schemes, but even that isn't true.
>>
>>24631445
I don't think morality is emotional. It's very pragmatic in a way. I don't want to live in a society where I or anyone I know could be randomly murdered at any time. You can't even really have much of a society like that.

What kind of annotations do you write on or about the books you read? I know a lot of people do this but I can't barely think by myself, I do no longer reflect, I just deglute other people's ideas and decide upon them. I can't craft my own ideas.

>>
>>24632259
I don't write in the books themselves, writing in margins is a pretty ineffective way of taking notes, there's not enough room and it spreads your notes over random pages.
>"oh where was my note on what this term meant? I wrote it some 100 pages ago"

Just write in a seperate notebook where you have all the room to write and organize it sensibly. Plus it doesn't clutter your books with probably garbage notes.
What do you do if you spell a word incorrectly and have to scribble it out, what a fucking mess you would make of your books. In a notebook a scribbled out word is not a big deal
