Are you a Calvinist or a Susie?
>>
I used to read ahead in my school books because I was excited to know what would come next
I want to be friends with Lermontov and Conrad

I actually never read ahead because all the books my mmmy-looking teacher chose were total dogshit, so it felt like a chore more than something cool to discover.

Calvin is a 4channer

Neither. I would read ahead but only as a procrastination on the assigned reading.
>>
>>23314835
I would always wait until the day of the test before i would start cramming on the bus
>>
I don’t think I ever read a textbook assigned in grade school and I was a straight A student until late high school

C@H is catnip for snarky midwit redditors who think themselves special for consuming pessimistic, 'unique' content that praises the reader for not being like all those other stupid consumers.
It's telling how much it increased in popularity on 4chan 2016 onwards

Not really. If you read 'em they're not heavy handed at all except for a few strips that ultimately get saved by the C&H soul. For the most part it's pretty based and not preachy. To say that C&H is pessimistic shows you haven't even read it, most likely. If anything, it can be pretty sappy (still love it, tho).

Pic related shows C&H is anti-reddit

For me, it's a pot of boiling water. Far more honest than subverting their society.

Even at its most emotional/poignant, C&H is too thoughtful & introspective to be considered "sappy"
>>
>>23315294
I agree. I'd rather just have someone blow my shit up than slowly sucking the will to live across generations
>>
>>23315306
Oh, I agree. I was writing that with the thought in mind that I'd accept that as a more valid criticism than "nihilistic", even though I do think C&H does heartfelt moments very well
>>
>>23315310
That's fair. I didnt even dignify that dipshit post above with any real response because C&H is self evidently not at all nihilistic or pessimistic even when it confronts such themes, so characterizing it as rick and morty midwit reddit slop is blatantly dumb
>>
>>23315331
Yes, it is very dumb. Probably gonna re-read the strips sometime soon, this thread gave me the itch
