This is only a thing if he is directly exposed to true genius. Some do everything they can to learn from and work with them and some get downright jealous and malicious.

A gifted individual can break new ground and change the limits of what's considered possible. This breaks the mental barrier for everyone involved and they can strive for something higher if they allow themselves to learn from the experience.
