Any good books on the Japanese language?I'm looking more for something informative, that contains historical context, as opposed to just a phrasebook.

It is a wonder how popular Japanese is as a second language, (regardless of how many people drop it so early in their studies, fucking 三日坊主共) yet there actually aren't all that many good books on it past a certain level. I guess they don't expect anyone to make it past the first couple months, so they just don't bother making textbooks for advanced learners. It is a nice kick in the ass, though, forcing you to search out native language materials.
