What are you reading right now?
A nice, brief description of the Irish right there. The prose is quietly pleasant and subdued overall. I went in blind but he's clearly a stylist doing some impressive work.
Ah, this book is funny as fuck in a circumlocutious manner I do enjoy.
I am reading/translating the only novel by Albert Cossery to remain untranslated. I can see why: namely, the first sentence of chapter 1 is the protagonist having sex with a girl who just turned 15, then the protagonist throughout the chapter shits all over (1) leftist revolutionaries; (2) capitalism and rapacious oil monopolies; (3) the united states and CIA (unstated but any reasonable person based on the descriptions knows Cossery is alluding to amerimutta); then continues to philosophize near the end of the chapter why he loves having sex with teenagers lmao all while mingling his philosophy glorifying laziness and being a NEET lol
>>23535768Forgot to say it’s Une ambition dans le désert
>>23535768Translate that shit, sounds humorous even if it's played straight. May be the most accurate depiction of the 21st century for all anyone can aver.
>>23535768This is the most French shit ever
>>23535795I will be posting it to my Substack for free later tonight/tomorrow (whole book will be eventually be posted there; goal is a chapter per week). I think Cossery would appreciate a fellow NEET translating his book since almost everything he has written has glorified idleness and NEETdom. Such a great writer. Check out his work translated by New Directions (most is available online)
>>23535803He was Egyptian

CUT YOUR NAILS
>>23538366I went through the archives looking for contemporary Irish lit and he came up along with Colin Barrett. The descriptions for Nobber and Hostages sounded right up my alley. I think I prefer Fagan, though Barrett may be a slightly sharper stylist and deft with characterization. >>23538375Fuck off biter, they're trimmed.
Short stories Pretty good so far
