How the fuck did Moby-Dick get so renowned? Melville is clearly an OCD autist about whales and it shows with the literal 100s of pages on whale anatomy. On a personal level, I enjoy the autism since I'm autistic myself, but I can't see how typical normies would read and enjoy this autist fest.

Maori / high yeller gay romance.

I think it was rejected by the public when it came out. It took a while for people to get on his level.

He's still rejected by normalfags even now. The book has a 3.5 rating on goodreads and I often see people call it boring.
Anyways, what's important in the book isn't necessarily just whale anatomy per se, but the way it's written (Melville is a remarkable prose stylist) and the richness of symbolism/metaphors + the themes Melville explores. It's a book about religion and a search for meaning, an attempt at a portrait of Leviathan as a symbol of divinity.

Hundreds of pages of whale anatomy? Why wasn't I informed of this before? I must purchase a copy immediately.

It's a satirical take on man's search for knowledge, his endless accumulation of specialized categories and classifications, anticipating many 'postmodern' novels' preoccupation with this theme.
