Hello anons. A local library is teasing me with cheap prices. I was wondering what are the best NYRB books to own in your opinion?
It depends on the translator. Surely, /lit/ knows of a good NYRB translator.
Like out of those or in general? Out of those I like The 20 Years War and The Year of the French. Invention of Morel was a disappointing mediocrity. Memoirs of an antisemite sounds interesting but I havent read it yet. Don't know about the rest.In general? Some of what I like:>Stoner>Butcher's Crossing>Warlock>Life and Fate + Stalingrad>Maqroll>The Long Ships>Tyrant Banderas >Krabat>Arabia Felix>Memoirs from Beyond the Grave>Kolyma Stories>Berlin Alexanderplatz >Fortunes of War

They're worth picking up if priced well. Nice editions and good tales. I'll always by a NYRB if I can get one for under 5 bucks. Extra worth if they're some of the more obscure translations. Probably wouldn't buy, for example, Dead Souls or Stoner in these editions as you can get them much more readily for much cheaper. Some of my favourites:Warlock - Oakley HallOther Men's Daughters - Richard SternA Love Affair - Dino BuzzatiZama - Antonio Di BenedettoAutobiography of a Corpse - KrzhizhanovskyAs a Man Grows Older - Italo SvevoThe Vanishing - Guido Morselli Alien Hearts - MaupassantBlood on the Forge - William Attaway
