If everyone only did work that they “loved and believed in” civilization would collapse in a week, maximum. There would be no one to run the machines and do the paperwork. Adults are supposed to understand that what we want isn’t necessarily the same as what everyone else needs, and it’s on us to adjust ourselves accordingly. When did you first wake up from the American dream?

Why do bugpeople somehow need the approval of everyone, and the participation of everyone in what they do and say? There's enough bugpeople to run the machines, you doing what you like and want won't disturb civilization.

No. Strive for greatness, create great works. Be the one that makes civilization worth living in for everyone else. We'd live in an ant colony if everyone followed this advice.

The American dream wasn’t doing what you want with your life. It was owning what you want to own in your life. It corresponds to the highly decadent. 1950s-1970s era of the big house in the suburb, car in the drive, white picket fence, two to four children, and a wife. How do you wake up from that dream? You already have. You don’t need to do anything.
