Entire book is some French aristocrat praising the American system of government and how it's so much better than France and England. Yet these past few weeks all I've seen from the US is failed assassination attempts and party coups.

What exactly do Europeans have to learn from America about Democracy? There is nothing democratic about how Yanks act during election season.

I wonder if anything happened in the intervening 200 years that has changed the respective political cultures of the two continents. Probably not though, right?

FTFY

The articles of the Constitution are the same. The Puritan New-Englanders who he praised over the "ruffian" Southerners also won the Civil War, so by his account America should be a better country. Highly overrated book by some self-hating Frenchman blinded by Republican Idealism.

Forget Watergate, Chud? Both sides do it.

Democracy and rich fucktards can't coexist

America has reached its culmination as what was originally set down if that‘s what you mean. De Toqueville does the same thing of constantly praising the anglosphere in his Ancien Regime book because >being oppressed by commerce classes isn‘t real tyranny

You have to consider the European monarchies prior to the Enlightenment. They were all into kings and queens ruling by the grace of God and rigid hierarchy. America is based on Enlightenment ideals, so it's an ideologically based republic in essence, and this stood out significantly. Technically our constitution does delineate the distribution of power and tries to set up a framework that allows for social mobility, even if flawed in practice. The appeal is the idea of a state rooted in popular sovereignty, individual rights, and progress by reason, which was steeped in the intellectual tradition of the Enlightenment.

Of course, now, we see how the US has evolved over time, and became corrupted.

Tocqueville was a race-traitor who supported Anglo slaves over the noble Franks. America is indeed reaching the end-point of its' own philosophy.

So we have nothing to learn from America? Separation of powers is the only thing in the book that seemed like a good idea (and remains so) but considering the Judiciary is itself reliant upon a flawed constitution it changes little. European constitutional monarchies have done a better job at democracy than the Yanks have.
