why do people do this? just go to college and study philosophy, most professor will introduce you in the topics you want to study and you won't ramble on imageboards about shitty interpretations

Its NOT finished. The post-structuralist/post-modernist section was weak. Chinese and Indian philosophy is not covered. The section in Islamic philosophy and Sufism is bad. Modern Russian philosophy is missing. Needs a dedicated section on logic beyond just reading the Organon etc. This guide needs revival and more work and a consistent thread. We need a new trivium that covers the liberal arts in autistic detail and a reading list for literary theory too.

The title:
>guide to reading WESTERN PHILOSOPHY

Exactly, it must be expanded beyond that Westeern philosophy. A complete introduction to philosophy has to be written. Western philosophy begins with Descartes or the Catholic Scholastic tradition, not the Greeks. Why is there even a section on Middle Eastern philosophy? None of those thinkers had a lasting influence on Western thought, just abbreviations of a few Avicennan and Averroes' ideas in Latin abriviations and summaries which get handed down.

/lit/ isn’t the place for it. Retardation abounds and there is extreme bias. A ton of philosophyfags just get their info off of here and Wikipedia

>Sorry anon, you wanted to start with the Greeks? That course is only available in the spring. Your options are morality and feminism, feminist math, and ad hoc rationalizations of Africa thought.

Greek was rarely studied in Western Europe in the medieval period. The Scholastic tradition was dominated by a partial translation of Aristote's lecture notes, some of Plato's books and Roman era works into Latin along with theology. Oxford and Cambridge didn't even teach philosophy until the British government forced reforms on them in the 19th century. Then along came Descartes, Renaissance Neoplatonists, and modern philosophy trying to undermine the Aristotleans whilst the Reformation was going on.

Literally every philosophy program is dominated by (anal)ytic niggers and they all start with the Greeks. You'll only take a class in morality and feminism if you are doing comp lit or women's studies or some other humanities major not philosophy.
