What's the difference between plot and story? Which one is 'narrative'?
The story is what you're reading, the plot is how you'd describe the story later
Story is the end and purpose of writing. In this sense it is the whole. Plot is one of the means. A part of the whole.

Plot details small situations that affect and lead into the next and eventually into major events that define the overall story. Or if you like, the story is a ride in the elevator and the plot is actually riding the elevator.
