Post books you liked as a kid
>>23816415>those coversModern day book covers can't even begin to compete.
>>23816415FUCKING HELL! Now that's a trip and a half down memory lane.Don't ask me for any plot details, I couldn't tell you. All I know is at one point the characters (couldn't tell you a single thing about them) were in a swamp with mysterious lights, and there was also an underground sea with floating villages on it.
The Chronicles of Amber.
>>23816415Goosebumps
>>23816442You were reading about a guy fucking the girl he thought was his niece when you were a kid?
>>23816446And she actually was his niece.
Back in primary school we were reading this book and it traumatised the crap out of me, and still kinda does. The subliminal messaging, the slow but assured take over of something, losing your humanity, it's frightening and for some reason shown to kids. Never been much of a conspiracy theorist, most are just shit with garbage arguments and observations, but I do wonder if there was a hidden message that the government or educational institutions wanted to impress on kids.
>>23816415DELTORA QUEST MENTIONED
>>23816476Which is to say, I loved this book because it was so frightening, and sure it's not purely /lit and a picture book but I feel like /co enjoyers are like trolls under a bridge and would somehow fail to understand a picture book for kids.
>>23816415These were so kino it’s hard to express
>>23816916Hell yeah, that book series was awesome!
Started my descent into the /x/ rabbithole desu
>>23817099I remember this one. I also had the dragon version.
>>23817111I had the greek one, dragon one, wizard one and egypt one. Shame they dont try to get kids interested in history with this sorta stuff anymore. These were the first in my many years of study on some of these subjects
Emily Rodda had not just one but two absolutely kino book series with great covers
>>23817125The later Deltora Quest covers were amazing too
>>23816415The Kings Fifth was pretty based iirc. Scaring native by sinking crossbow bolts into trees so far that they couldn't pull them out and then cracking thunder out of your strange hollow metal stick seems pretty kino.
>>23816415The greatest.
>>23816415Don't remember anything of what went on in the books but the covers were always kino. Anyone remember the Spiderwick Chronicles or Cirque Du Freak? I also loved the Young Bond series.
>>23816417There are a bunch of good ones but I'm not going to convert fucking webms (fuck you google)It's true they don't make em like Darrell Sweet anymore but Kinuko Y. Craft, and John Harris are still around crushing it.
>>23816476Just read this and it's great, thank you. would have loved to read this as a kid if was translated to my mothertongue back then
>>23816415>>23816442>>23816916>>23816923>>23817099>>23817111>>23817115>>23817130KINNOOOOLet’s not forget Animorphs, but here are some obscure picks that might not be hits>galactic pig, the boy who could not die, and anything else by that author >Charlie Bone>FABLEHAVEN>39 Clues>Percy Jackson
And my most obscure pick, the Leviathian trilogy. Alternate history WW1 with steampunk mechs versus biological creature machines
>>23817718>Cirque Du FreakI loved that series. Never got that far, probably book 3. Will probably never pick it up again and let it remain as a charming memory.
>>23816415I remember pic related being a comfy read when I was a kid
>>23818430I didn't even realise this was kids lit
>>23816415
Went back to finish it as an adult. Better than expected desu
>>23816923goat
>>23816415Goosebumps series
>>23819980>1989ok boomer
>>23817160damn…
best YA series imo
which of you chads are still looking for the 19th story?
Still my second favourite book ever.Ratty is literally me btw
Can't believe the 10th book still isn't finished
>Master Chief unloaded his assault rifle >He threw a grenade and then reloaded>He then fired his assault rifle againKINOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Embarrassing but whatever
>>23818417The one where she turns into a yurk (or whatever they were called) was intense.
goosebumps as a wee lad, then the hitchhiker's guide series once i turned 13
>>23817099Based. I loved the alienology boom the best. So fun, and the alien slime/blood claiming it will kill whoever didn’t believe in Extraterrstrials actually scared as a kid to touch it. The was the scariest I felt reading a book too honestly. It was fun and really creative.
>>23816415I still like Deltora Quest and Rowen of Rin
>>23819984I remember staring at the map a tracing the protag's path through the land. The mountains so tall they reach out to fucking space were silly in retrospect. Was super pissed as a kid that the protag didn't rail elf waifu but I still enjoyed it mostly. I have to expect by my current standards I'd drop it after the first book though. This was my second book series after Harry Potter.
>>23823405She treated him as an afterthought for so much of the series I kinda liked that he dumped her.
>>23823410I kinda wanted him to crack her shell mostly. As you can imagine I have tons of elf in cockawe over glorious human doujins favorited on sadpanda. As one does.
It truly was fantastic. People are tired of talking about it but this fucker's success and popularity was and is truly 200% deserved. It really is YA perfected as an artform.
>>23823437forgot
>>23816415>The forests of silenceHoly shit, it's been nearly 20 years since I've seen that cover, and had no recollection of what it was even called.
>>23816916Based. I feel like rereading some of these now. Thank you for reminding me that these existed.
I hated the main character was a self insert for the author but otherwise it was pretty cool and felt like he was really pushing the boundaries a lot in what you could do in a YA series with how dark it got in places.
>>23824031I remember this one as being the most confusing ya series I read as a kid, maybe it was because I read them out of order. I also remember the ending being very weird and hard to like.
>>23823438I'm jealous I didn't read these as a kid. my first fantasy books was LotR so when HP came out I made fun of all those kids because it was 'gay'. guess it's not all bad being a rings Chad.
>>23816415Been reading RuneScape: Betrayal at Falador for the first time. I'm sure some kids who loved RuneScape would have loved Church's RuneScape trilogy.Genuinely enjoying it. Apparently there's another one out (not by T.S. Church) but I'll probably only get it once I finish reading the Church trilogy on my Kindle.>>23823437>>23823438I agree. They're good for children's books and enjoyable for adults. Hogwarts Legacy really rejuvenated my love for the Wizarding World. I wonder what the HBO series will be like?
Anyone else read Alex Rider?
>>23822722I had those too.
>>23816923based, a word which here means "I agree with this post".
>>23824752beat me to it
>>23823438>>23823437is it true JK rowling randomly added a nigger to the american edition of the book? is it true that americans will refuse to let their kids read any book unless theres at least 1 nigger in it?
>>23825717kek i'm using this one
>>23816923Dangerous levels of kino
>>23816923shame the movie sucked so badexcept for this
>>23824752I really loved the one where they all go paintballing in America, that and Brigands MC were the only ones I purchased and reread.
