What are the best books/resources for increasing one's vocabulary and making it stick? Things I've tried as a Texan overbite chud without much luck:
- books with alphabetical SAT/GRE lists (my memory starts choking somewhere in the vicinity of 'ABASE')
- looking up unknown words as I encounter them and keeping a vocab diary (feels that it's more tedious than necessary, and I'd like something less random, more structured)
- mnemonic cartoons (I like these, but I'm unaware of anything with full SAT/GRE lists)

cram a dictionary.
