So what was the point of including Grindelwald? I do not care about the retconning of him being homosexual, only about his role in the story
>>
>>24077075
Harry Potter is a story about the omnipotence of the pederast-demiurge (Dumbledore; the British aristocracy) who, having once defeated Hitler the first (with whom they were at first foolishly enamoured—see the Anglo-German friendship committee, Romantic English Germanophilia wrt Coleridge etc.), can effortlessly defeat Hitler the second
>>
its just about adding a gay storyline for dumbledore
>>
>>24077359
that was retconned you utter retard
>>
>>24077075
God these nu covers are so fucking ugly.
>>
>>24077541
Seriously. Potty wee Potter looks like a 14 year old ftm. He's supposed to be 17 in this book.
>>
>>24077075
Voldemort interrogated Grindelwald on the whereabouts of the elder wand because he was the last known person to have it something, which lead Voldemort to dig up Dumbledore's grave to get the wand.
>>
>drop multiple new major plot points in the last book
Fucking why?

People figured out that Harry is a horcrux, so she had to come up with something more to sell.
>>
>>24077075
Grindelwald was part of Dumbledore's backstory I suppose. Deathly Hallows was as much Dumbledore's story as it was Harry's, it was only after going into his backstory that Harry realised he wasn't some angelic grandpa but a very flawed person.
>>
Why was Harry saved from the curse? From my understand it was due to the love of his parents, but you are telling me in the entire history of the wizarding world no one who was murdered with the curse was loved so saved?
>>
Kind of funny how he was never mentioned in any of the earlier books. Rowling really did just make it up as she went along
>>
>>24077894
I feel like Harry being a Horcrux is a metaphor for original sin
>>
>>24078775
Yeah mot English people are very cold to their kids. I mean, your average English parent allows her daughters to be gang rape
>>
so what's the difference between scholastic, bloomsbury and pottermore editions?

I still think it's a gyp that Dumbledore tells Harry that the three Peverell brothers of the Hallows didn't actually meet Death. It feels inane to me. You're telling me that this world where magic is real, where giants are real, where dragons are real, where GHOSTS are real, doesn't believe that the Grim Reaper could be walking about the world? It's stupid. The story works much better if, as is fitting for the kind of setting this is, it actually happened, and the Peverells each had their particular encounter with the Reaper himself.

In general the Harry Potter series is surprisingly materialistic for a book series dealing with literal magic. It deals with magic, but not so much with spirits, with the transcendent, with the Divine.

If all underage wizard have the trace which reacts to any magic used around a minor outside Hogwarts and all underage wizards are forbidden from using magic outside school grounds especially in front of muggles how did Fred, George, and Ron rescue Harry and not get immediately expelled? I doubt their dad has that much clout in the Ministry
>>
>>24079200
That's why it's popular. If Harry asked Dumbledore where magic came from and Dumbledore said, "Christ's sacrifice," it never would have taken off.
>>
>>24077075
Grindelwald stole the elder wand. Dumbledore beat him in a duel and got the elder wand. Then Voldemort took it from Dumbledore's tomb.
>>
>>24079354
The car was already enchanted right? I remember the twins were bragging about lockpicking and not using actual spells too.
>>
>>24077075
More importantly, if your buddy had a crush on a girl would you take a polyjuice potion, turn into her, and let him fuck you? And would that be gay?
>>
>>24079354
Loophole. They just drove a car. The car happened to be enchanted. Also, they got Harry out of his uncle and aunt's house and eventually to Hogwarts. I bet Dumbledore would overlook almost anything if it helped Harry in some way.
>>
>>24079651
I think it's on the Ministry to prosecute minors using magic. It's not the prerogative of Hogwarts

bump for this

>the very end of the last book in the last series
>the climax of 7 books released over 10 years
>the most important moment of the final confrontation and their last chance to save the world
>they spend 30 minutes talking about wand mechanics
What the hell was she thinking
>>
>>24081413
>conclusion of a series set in a school
>final confrontation is basically the hero and antagonist circling each other in the great hall while people crowd around shouting "FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT"

From what I remember not much beyond adding a bit of worldbuilding/lore which desu the Harry Potter world is sorely lacking in so I do think it’s the worst addition. Keep in mind I haven’t read a Harry Potter book since the 4th grade though so my memory may be off.
>>

*dont
I fucking hate spellcheck. I know what I’m typing fuck you for touch my perfect wor
>>
>>24079189
I'm curious about this, too.
>>
>>24078826
Wrong, Grindelwald is mentioned by name in book one when Harry reads Dumbeldore’s chocolate frog card. There’s even some poetry here in that Harry first learns about Dumbledore from the one dimensional description of the candy wrapper and then in the 7th book gets the full truth.
>>
>>24083949
So she throws in a name and then ad hoc makes a narrative around it several books later
>>
>>24077777
>>
this book feels really rushed. it felt like it had ideas that could be spread over 2-3 books. it's like she just wanted to get the series over with.
>>
>>24077541
I looked at the covers and there are some really, really bad ones. Some are grotesque even.

>>
>people who can break several laws of physics and rewrite the laws of reality somehow kept getting mogged by peasants with sharp sticks back in 867 AC
>decide to go through the effort of autistically hiding your community from muggles
>it takes over a thousand years for someone to think "why the fuck aren't we enslaving the muggles?"
>said guy gets defeated by a little gay unicorn or something
>>
I like the carefully and tastefully timed drops of the word "bitch" JKR puts in this series lmao.
>>
>>24082190
These look like those sega minimalistic videogame covers
>>
>>24087628
Magic just doing whatever Rowling wants it to do at any moment was one thing, but the way the whole magic vs. muggle world thing was handled was absolutely silly. If she had just ignored it, fine, but it's one of the major motivations of the villain, and yet, it's still so surface level with no real thought behind it.
