I liked the Dark Tower but it's probably too male-orientedI remember Spook's Apprentice being a fun readYou could try to get her to read the Odyssey if she liked Percy Jackson. In a prose translation since children think poetry is gay. Iliad is too repetitive, Metamorphoses too violent, but the Odyssey can actually be engaging for a teen
>>24086992Sabriel
>>24087034Thanks! I just bought the first 5 tomes of the Spook's Apprentice! You think Dark Tower is ok for a 11yo?

>>24087084I was 11 myself when I first read it. But on second thought I think I recall it having a few sex scenes, at least in book 4.
>>24087150I wouldn't buy any young adult fiction at 11 anymore. She is old enough to read real literature, of which there is plenty at a lower reading level. Tolkien, Lewis Carrel, Anne of Green Gables, Hemingway, Brave New World, Dune, etc etc

>>24086992As a kid I really liked A Series of Unfortunate Events. It's 13 books long but the box set on Amazon is only around $60 USD.There's also Narnia and Tolkein as more classic children lit. Maybe take her to see a local Shakespeare production as well.

Does the metafiction thing in that vein. Go backwards (with Tales From The Hinterland), then chronologically. Might hit better in a year or two, but the fairy tales might peak her interest. His Dark Materials trilogy. Golden Compass and all that. Redwall series. Lots of material. >>24086992Gibs fantasy book but not the smut one (obviously), you wouldn't want her to read some dark fantasy either. So I'd say something between cozy fantasy or low fantasy, keep her away from booktok or anything labelled as YA. Girls are more vulnerable than boys at this age with media that they consoomed so extra supervision is preferable

She's reading too fast and is probably a bit of a whore and will be reading romantasy filth with her roastie friends by the time she's 13. You need to put the books under lock and key and remind her she's supposed to be preparing herself to be of value to a man for marriage. If she can read Harry Potter she can be making you and her father homecooked meals, she's clearly a smart grown up. Smart little bitch.
>>24089476Ah! That's why. Now I know he bought this site and you anons have been having a keen interest at me huh. >>24086992I read a shit ton of 90s and early 2000s YA books. they were skewed towards women authors even back then so I read about a lot of female main characters. here are the best starting with pic related. it's a really awesome magic system if nothing else.>So you want to be a Wizard by Diane Duane>"The Old Kingdom/Abhorsen trilogy" by Garth Nixand finally I'd recommend Tamora Pierce who has written like 10+ series about women knights and mages in her fantasy world. they're quite good, at least they were when I was 13 years old, very well developed fantasy world with lots of believable scenarios. The first series with Alanna called "Song of The Lioness" is great and important to understand the setting. And after that the Wild Magic series is my favorite and came out right after Alanna and features a girl Nature magician who ends up solving politics by talking to animals. The "Paige" series is good, it's about a girl pretending to be a man and becoming a knight, eventually she reveals who she is and becomes the second female knight after Alanna (from the first series). There is also the "Terrier" series which is about a lady cop in this fantasy world. all these books feature very good romance plots as well. Also the new "Circle of Magic" series doesn't seem as Kino as the ones I mentioned
>>24086992>books for a kids birthdayWay to be a shitty parent
>>24087034>>24087084Noooooo it’s a great series but the last book is a cuck bad end
Flatland by Edwin Abbott Abbot could be read around that age. It's pretty amusing for a child who is using the computer and doing math homework.

>>24086992WHY HAS NOBODY SUGGESTED THE EARTHSEA TRILOGY BUY ALL THREE FOR HER THERE IS LITERALLY A FEMALE PROTAGONIST
>>24089425I second Little House on the Prairie. I really liked those books as a kid. Also recommend The Borrowers.Jules Verne might be good too with all of his fantastic adventure stories. Like another anon said, she's getting to be the age where she's probably ready to be introduced to more adult fiction. I remember reading Fahrenheit 451, 1984, Lord of the Flies, a lot of Edgar Allen Poe, and Beowulf in middle school while still reading the youth-oriented books as well.If you don't have one all ready, also consider buying a big dictionary so she can look up words she doesn't know. My parents had a massive one and I would look through it whenever I encountered a word I didn't know while I was reading.
>>24086992Redwall, Tamora Pierce, Ranger's Apprentice are all excellent.
>>24090168/lit/ doesn't know shit about ponies anon
Dinotopia is a good choice, and consider Emily Rodda's books as well.
>>24086992listen to harry potter recently cause its cozy.I know they are kids, but it still annoys me that they can never tell off Draco in a satisfying way that bites his ego even though it would be super easy with all of his failings. They just beat him in a quidditch competition and see him huff in the background instead of stepping up to him directly.Be super easy too, just go: >"Hey Malfoy, remember when you didnt listen to the teacher about hippogryphs, failed to mount it, then lied about it to everyone? SO what is it, are you stupid, a failure, a liar, or all the above?or>"Why do you keep loosing at quidage Malfoy?" or>"Why is Hermione so much better at magic then you Malfoy?"or>"DO Malfoys really need to cheat to win, like when you tried to sabotage (and fail) our game? that kind of sad."you know, actually calling his bluffs. Bringing up blatant examples of shit.THere is just so many ways to attack his ego by pointing out when hes a demonstrable looser, but they just go "Its not worth it" when he starts yapping, so he keeps doing it again and again and causing problems cause he doesn't get any real pushback. It would totally be worth it to keep his trap shut more often. its not psychological 4d chess, just making it obvious that yapping just gets him embarrassed. This isnt just a harry potter problem, I feel like a lot of writers dont know how to depict a satisfying snap back.
>>24086992a book token and free reign in the biggest bookshop you can find, she's old enough to enjoy the fun of picking out whatever looks interesting to her. go browse the history section for an hour while you let her read covers/opening chapters at leisure.

>>24086992Sea of Trolls by Nancy Farmerkino of the highest order
>>24086992If she likes sob stories "a bridge to terabithia" is a good choice. The friend and possibly love interest of the protagonist dies in an accident and the rest of the book is of him coming to terms with it it does end in a positive note but it can be depressing. There is a movie of it too if you want to screen it, but I don't know how much it differs from the book.
