And it was a contrast between universals and particulars and always had been framed as such. If the origin of the butchered terminology was Kant, then he's doing violence to the tradition as well, and Hegel has only perpetuated it. When Aristotle located ousia in the tode ti, he wasn't speaking of a universal or a form, or even some truncated version of the two. He was speaking of the particular, which is synonymous with the individual (this horse, Socrates, etc.). Even Wikipedia and Encyclopedia Britannica affirm this.
