Why did he like hanging out with Glanton so much? Were they pals?
Glanton was the sort of violent, reckless psychopath that Holden believed all humans should be (or already are, even). It's no wonder he enjoyed being around him.
>>24091199Because he was... LE spooky!!!
>>24091214And what did Glanton see in Holden worth keeping around?
>>24091404Holden saved Glanton and his entire gang from near-certain death from the Apaches. Despite his habitual pedophilia and psychotic behavior, Holden has been an immeasurable help to the gang that can't be replaced. There's also an implication that Glanton has sold his (and, possibly, the entire gang's) soul for his help. But that's neither here nor there.
>>24091404for killing Mexicans
>>24091404In a dog eat dog world you wouldn’t want Holden as your #2?
why did the Judge leave the Kid alone for like a decade only to show up in the porta potty years later? did he just have better shit to do?
>>24092702While the others had outlasted their usefulness and potential, the Judge likely saw the Kid as another soul he could still corrupt to his ways. The implication was that Holden could have killed the Kid anytime he liked, but only reappeared to him after the Kid began killing again. My interpretation, at least, was that Holden was dancing at the end to celebrate his victory. Not in killing the Kid, but in finally corrupting the Kid and getting him to help rape and murder the little girl who owned the bear.
>>24093152Same here. Its crazy that this correct interpretation is in the minority. Most fags just think the judge killed him
>>24093152>but in finally corrupting the Kid and getting him to help rape and murder the little girl who owned the bearWhy’d he do that though? What made him finally turn towards him?
>>24093174The kid found himself becoming the shit that once disgusted him. The false preacher who carries around a bible he cant read. The old hermit showing off his nigger heart, he became the same but with the ear necklace. When he tried to help the old lady only to realize she was long dead. I guess that broke his spirit in some way. He couldnt out run his past
>>24093152Him just killing the kid feels totally pointless. He could have done that anytime if he wanted. Waiting patiently for corruption makes more sense.Could he be useful for good things if you just never get corrupted
>>24093201For sure it would have been pointless. Having long psedo intellectual conversations and shit is also pointless if youre only planning to kill the guy. It was definitely about turning the kid into a monster and defeating whatever sense of morality it was that made the kid unable to do the mercy killing.
Is the real life south west as nice as it seems in books
>>24093174He had tried to better himself throughout the story after his departure from the gang and Holden, but everything he did was in vain (his inability to overcome his violent nature and his failure to save the old woman). Then he killed Elrod, a reflection of his youth. And while the Kid had been a violent shit as a youth, it was also explicitly stated by Holden that the Kid was unwilling to fully succumb to the depravity and butchery the other members of the Glanton gang were committing. Ultimately meaning, he rejected his past humanity (however flawed) and gave in to the violence surrounding him. Exactly what Holden wanted all along.
>>24093214lol it is a landscape that is hostile. Ants and fleas and ticks and mosquitos. No rain. Dark brown lakes. Every plant has thorns. Poisonous snakes. Hot as fuck. Spicy peppers. It is appealing as a setting because of the harshness and remoteness. And I think there is some fascination for the people who settled there because they had to be tough as iron.
>>24093229It seems nicer than where I am.
>>24091404are you kidding me? did you read the fucking book lol. He was like having a genie in the gang
>reddit: the book
>>24093308>Translation: I am a habitual contrarian that hates that this book became popular because an e-celeb talked about itLol get an actual opinion, faggot.
>>24093326He's kinda right. It ruins the whole thing a bit
>>24093330It ruins the discourse around the book, not the book itself. It's fine to personally dislike Blood Meridian. But you're disliking something purely because normies got into it, you bear the mark of well-groomed niggercattle.
>>24093346I'm not sure why you're making all these assumptions man. I'm not cussing. I'm not doing anything to you. It always hurts when stuff like this happens. Same for dosteovsky. People I don't like liking what I like puts me off. I'm only human
>>24093351Maybe I went a little too hard on you. I think that it's fine to hate normies and them invading spaces that they had no interest in until it became popular. Those faggots have no actual values besides what the herd and it's shepherds decide for them. But again, it does not devalue the actual worth of the book because people you don't like started talking about it.
>>24093380no fuck him. people who cant compartmentalize and separate art from artist from fans of art etc deserve to be called faggots
>>24093296Yeah but a sadistic insane genie who seems like he could murder you in your sleep while quoting Paradise Lost or some shit at any point.
>>24093532Even so, better to have him inside your tent and pissing out than outside pissing in.
Lhhf
>>24091199Picrel contains a much more faithful representation of Glanton
>>24094990is that cutie bare chested indian chick in th book?this is important
>>24095170Yes, exactly as portrayed. And they also, y'know... uhh
If you didn't know this book was also inspired by the story of Billy the Kid look him up I read this novel
>>24094990What's so good about this novel and why are you pushing this for me?
>>24095180He rapes and scalps her? :(((
>>24091199They were penpals
I know I am going to get in trouble for saying this, but God i wish Judge Holden was my husband.I love Judge Holden so fucking much.
>>24096251Can you stop fantasizing me being your husband?
Just kidding keep doing it
>>24093326>t. e-celeb cocksucker
>>24091199because Glanton was the same as him but trying to cover it up
>read my confession>somehow, the volunteer armies and texas rangers during the mexican-american war committed more crimes against humanity than the glanton gang>judge holden is as mysterious as he is pathetic in a hilarious manner>chamberlain married a 14 yr old mexican girl as a 15 yr old irregular, she got chopped to pieces by her bandit husband and he never recovered from this>deserts army shortly after and joins glanton gang
This book ruined me. I literally took it as a how to guide on how to be a man. I would basically act like one of the glanton gang. Be extremely rude and cold and short in speech to both men and women. I would purposely be extremely stand off ish and stubborn. Laconic and serious. I started spitting everywhere I went. I started purposely making fun of people. Since that time though ive lost quite a few friends and now am alone most of the time. I fucked up some golden years I’ll never get back purposely acting like a dickhead to everyone I met. I also just had this air of pretension and would talk to others condescendingly and patronizingly constantly
