Reducing it to just "sad man writes how lonely he is" is the lowest IQ anti-literate bullshit I see on here, with a total ignorance of how the book was even compiled in the first place. Today I returned to passages of Pessoa talking about the revolutionary impulse in groups like leftists, then went to passages about the demise of the romanticist spirit of Europe. Of course all these passages are characterized by Soares' yearning in tedium but that's the point. It's a character talking about these things and he's a brilliant character for an endlessly brilliant book that captures anomie in modernity better than anything I've read
