I feel like Faulkner has such a huge issue with consistency. I hated The Sound and the Fury but loved Absalom, Absalom! He's among the only great authors that I have such a divisive reaction to each of his works. Most great authors I tend to either be in love with or just apathetic towards. Rarely do I hate. And I do hate half Faulkner just as much as I love half of Faulkner.

I loved the Plague in high school, I hated the Stranger as an adult. Not sure if it's just my taste becoming more refined over the years or if it's the case of the two books being very different. I should revisit the former.
>>24092974I know what you mean, I have the exact opposite with TSATF and A A. I kind of view it as a strength of his work and sign of his skill. There's always going to be a work that hits you incredibly and one that sucks. Its different for everyone, and he was able to write for everyone instead of just doing the same shit all the time.
bad
>>24092974>>24093370I personally feel as though A Rose For Emily is his best work. It basically encapsulates the core themes of his works in a condensed and tidy package. Also, >instead of just doing the same shit all the timeAll of his works are about the fall of the Confederacy and its consequences in some way.
>>24094941>All of his works are about the fall of the Confederacy and its consequences in some way.But it's told in different ways, vastly different ways.
>>24092974He's a one hit wonder
