Blood Beast is the fifth book in Darren Shan's The Demonata series and was released 4th June 2007. It is narrated by Grubbs Grady, the narrator of Lord Loss and Slawter and the plot is part of a two part story, along with book six.Once again we return to our most modern Magician & Assistant Duo, that being Grubbs and Dervish. Let’s see what their future holds for them.Previous Thread:>>24078640Lord Loss I:https://www.archived.moe/lit/thread/24004762/Lord Loss II:https://www.archived.moe/lit/thread/24017568/Demon Thief I:https://www.archived.moe/lit/thread/24021566/Demon Thief II:https://www.archived.moe/lit/thread/24032763/Slawter I:https://www.archived.moe/lit/thread/24044135/Slawter II:https://www.archived.moe/lit/thread/24054879/Bec I:https://www.archived.moe/lit/thread/24070921/Bec II:https://www.archived.moe/lit/thread/24078640/

PART ONE - LOCH
CHAPTER 1 - DAMM THE SANDMAN
CHAPTER 2 - MISERY
CHAPTER 3 - NIGHTMARES
>>24105357LET'S GHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
>>24105463Thank you OP
>>24105426Always a fine line trying to balance between your normal friends and 'that' friend.
>>24106665The thing is, "that friend" is the one who truly knows you best at your core and the reason why a distinction or separation is made from them is out of fear. Effectively, it is running away from yourself because "that friend" not only allows you to be yourself, but could expose the true you to those "normal friends" or society at large. That mask you ever so diligently craft and design runs the risk of being cracked or completely dismantled. So, what do many folks decide to do? Ostracize "that friend" to feel as though they have a false sense of safety and security in maintaining a facetious, not wholly accurate display of themselves to the world.
>>24106704At the same time we are judged by and to an extent reflect the company we keep, so when 'that friend' acts completely oblivious to social norms there is a valid concern that you will be ostracized because of their behaviour. It's one thing to be true to yourself, it's another to not understand when some things aren't appropriate.
>>24105396I wonder what will be added to the list of horrible things by the end f this book?
>>24105463He needs to drop his normal life and embrace Bill E and magic. He'll be happier that way and maybe find that cute albino girl again.
>>24105413>It’s important to have Loch’s approval. He’s my best friend. You don’t try to date your bestfriend’s sister without his permission. It just isn’t done.
>>24106760>At the same time we are judged by and to an extent reflect the company we keep, so when 'that friend' acts completely oblivious to social norms there is a valid concern that you will be ostracized because of their behaviour. It's one thing to be true to yourself, it's another to not understand when some things aren't appropriate.Simply because something is a "social norm" doesn't mean that it is inherently right or correct in a moral sense and/or for our individual needs. There are instances and cases where what is considered appropriate and doesn't rock the boat is acting to the detriment of us, "that friend" and others we assocoate with. Even if you are ostracized from one group of "normal friends", when you honor your true self, you can find those who accentuate and empower who you really are. It doesn't mean that they'll necessarily be booger-eaters and need an extra shower or two. They can be just as civilized as those "normal friends" can be or are.
>>24106060I am happy to provide. Also, on a quick note - tomorrow I will dump in the early afternoon, as I am away in the evening. >>24106909Well, we will see.>>24106665>>24106704>>24106760Ah, the cruel rule of the highschool jungle - let us be wary of ourselves, before we call Grubbs out to easy here - but you are certainly right. In th end though, for good or bad it just matters as much as you are willing to, if you ask me.>>24107430True - and well, some people just need a bit more time to grow up or give their head a good shake. I cringe at many things I did in highschool, but then again - so do most people.
CHAPTER 4 - PREPARATIONS
CHAPTER 5 - PARTY ANIMAL
>>24107844Interesting development, is Grubb's magical side keeping his lycanthropy suppressed? Does he have the magical potential to cure himself the way Lord Loss can?
>>24107758Dervish's bants and jokes are top tier entertainment.
>>24107828Grubbs can't hide his magical powers anymore.
>>24107844>lycanthropy is an inescapable curse with a 100% conversion rate if untreated and the only treatment actually has a mortality rate greater than 100% because the odds are multiple people will die attempting it>nah, I'd win
>>24107758>She's hotter than a hot dog that's been cooked extra-hot!Kek
>>24108318Dervish is the ultimate troll
>>24107019I would agree, but on the other hand, a normal, if shallow life isn't exactly a bad deal in any of Shans Stories. I wonder if Post-Story Darren ever got to meet Debbie again. >>24108318>>24109118This one is a bit harsh though. >>24108710Once agaiin, I do wonder if the Yuri Ideas were just Shan putting up a facade after his editor told him off. >>24108020>>24108424>>24108580I am not sure, but aren't there more magicians in the long line of their family? Or is he himself special? >>24107767Also, I have to ask - as I never was a big party guy - do you really get laid that easily there and is that everybodys expectation? Or is Shan just parodying such teenage fantasies here? Aren't the big house parties more of an american thing anyway? Also dump will follow shortly - today we have one chapter, as this one and the next are a bit longer.
CHAPTER 6 - TREASURE HUNT
>>24110084>Aren't the big house parties more of an american thing anyway?they do exist in the UK>do you really get laid that easily there and is that everybodys expectation?well, it's not strange to go with the hope of it in the back of your mind, plus with a lot of horny teenagers some of that is bound to happen. whether it's 'easily' done depends on how much booze is being imbibed and the ever mysterious factor of if that spark of attraction occurs between guests.
whatever you're paying your internet provider OP, it's too much
>>24110513OP said yesterday that they had plans for today/tonight, so he likely began dumping the pages yet got caught up in preparing for or heading out to real life activities. Good to know that they have some manner of a social life and are enjoying themselves. All we must do is patiently await more pages and be appreciative of the work which OP does in providing them, along with taking the time to come up with post-novel questions and share thoughts with other anons. As someone who's managed an online Book Club before, it may have been free in regards to money, but it took plenty of time and energy to host the sessions for a couple days each week.
>>24110513The blame is on me for this one, but I still do. While it has gotten better, until a few years ago, it was absolutely nightmarish. Back when it played it, downloading Skyrims 5 Gigabyte took 2 days and nights here. >>24110810Guilty as Charged, though social life... well I was invited to a small round discussion at my former university. Still the blame is on me - so I will continue the dump post-haste.
>>24111253Can't wait for the reveal that Lord Loss dug a fake pit to put a fake treasure in as his latest attempt at revenge on those darn Grady boys.
>>24110105Fuck you Grubbs. You need to stop throwing your bro under the bus.
>>24111266>a girl's face buried deep undergroundBec?
>chilling with your bros>magic happens>bottle turns into butterflies and flower petalsHow do you talk your way out of this?
Stop making these threads retard.
>>24111808Use the filter, retard.
>>24111243>Guilty as Charged, though social life... well I was invited to a small round discussion at my former university.Participating in a round table talk isn't necessarily like a wild party with chugging beers and trying to fuck drunk girls, but it still is having a social life or doing something enjoyable outside of caring about working for a paycheck. >Still the blame is on me - so I will continue the dump post-haste.While providing more pages for reading is appreciated, no manner of feeling blame is required or wanted of you. Having a life outside of work or the internet is a healthy thing.
>>24111805Laser light show or something.
CHAPTER 7 - HARD WORK
>>24113931Yeah Grubbs, you shouldn't have spilled the beans about this treasure hunt.
>>24113944While the chemical thing is bullshit there could legitimately be noxious gases down there. Then again they're teens going on a treasure hunt so I can't really fault their enthusiasm.
I only noticed a couple of days ago that there was a response to my latest one about the topic of my /x/ experiences. So, I patiently waited until this thread was underway to post a reply and extend the dialogue further.>>24070008>Both, along with having plenty of experiences throughout my life that confirm that there is never a true end. In using 4chan board terms, I've had my fair share of /x/ or Paranormal instances. Hence why a series like The Demonata was right up my alley back when I read it as a teenager and still is to this day.>>24083549>Allright – I will be eager to here of your further perspective then! If you don’t mind, do share some of them.>>24084355>There are quite a few to choose from, yet I'll go with a category people are more familiar with to get my previous point across that "there is never a true end." I've had experiences with shadow beings, in that they were shadows in how my physical eyes percieved them. A lot of them are what we'd call "ghosts" or aspects of people who've passed away that linger in a physical location. Not only have I detected; experienced them in my own home, but in other specific locations like an old mansion that was converted to a home for the elderly and an elementary school where a child died.>>24086867>Now I am hooked. How would you describe the feeling of seeing them?It depends based on the location and when I happened to come across them. For the most part, if anything stuck out, there was some sort of inner knowing; gnosis that they weren't flesh and blood human beings. That realization brought about a sense of unease, in not that they were bad or evil, but just from making contact with something that as a human I am ignorant about and felt was "other." The fear of the unknown is one way to phrase it.
>>24114597That's cool anon, I've had similar experiences. I like how the Demonata series portrays everyday life and the paranormal. For the most part they are two separate worlds but sometimes the worlds collide.
Bump
>>24111331Fuggen kek.>>24111522>>24113945I am actually interested to see how the relationship between Loch and Bill-E progresses. I actually could them see becoming friends. On the other hand, as per the Shan Cycle, that wouldn't bode exactly well for Loch.>>24113972Absolutely. Caving and similar hobbies sound fun, but there seems to be loads of potential hazards you don't even think of.>>24112086Thank you for your understanding.>>24111575My thought as well - now that would be kino. Imagine Bec reacting to modern life. And you thought our favorite illiterate vampire had problems.
CHAPTER 8 - THE CAVE
>>24116311I'd have a few choice words if my eternal rest was disturbed by three spelunking dickheads too.
>>24116315I guess this why the tittle is called Blood Beast. Something is taking blood away from dead people.
>>24116652It’s like Finnegan’s Wake if Joyce had featured a child being repeatedly raped for the enjoyment of the reader.
>>24115084In that sense, it's how the world actually is, spiritually speaking. There is a veil between the material and immaterial in how we sense it. There are some who can more easily tune in to that immaterial side of things. Think of them as radios who are more naturally capable or are trained to pick up stations which are lesser known to common people. Most people check out the Top 40 Hits station, but how many have the equipment or are willing to search for the frequencies playing Jazz or host a pirate broadcast that only a few hundred people even are aware it exists.
Just finished reading Bec. I hate Connla so fucking much. Fiachna, Bec, and Bran all deserved to be happy together and everyone else didn't deserve to die. That ending was a gut-punch and Lord Loss winning leaves a bitter awful taste in my mouth.
>>24111808>Kneeling to CHADmonata GODsKWAB.
>>24116665hey, that's one of my favourite authors in that screenshot. he does like to get pretty freaky with it, it must be said. check out 'Dhalgren' if you want to experience schizokino of the highest order.
>>24111808Seethe, Lord Loss.
PART TWO - JUNI
CHAPTER 9 - THE PROMISE
CHAPTER 10 - COMING CLEAN
>>24118502>part one is called Loch>Loch dies>part two is called JuniShan please, not the spunky albino.
>>24116300Well, shit. This isn't going to bode well for these two, is it?
>>24105357>>24105364>>24105377What absolute schlock written by an obvious subhumanherb
>>24116263>>24116308Well, aren't I eating my own words now.>>24118635I hope you won't have to.
>>24118540>doesn't tell him about the bloodGrubbs can't help but make terrible desisions.
>>24119335It might take him awhile to bring it up but all hope is not lost. Remember, Grubbs is a teenager after all, so he's bound to be unsure of himself at times.
>>24119335Grubbs is still a (heavily traumatized) kid so mistakes are understandable.
>>24105377>>24105385Off to a good start for our boy Grubbs.
>>24116978>There are some who can more easily tune in to that immaterial side of things. This has always resonated with me. Especially after learning about the correlation with people with epilepsy. It's an ability I'm interested in pursuing more seriously but unsure how to use it. "In another time, another culture, he may have been a seer, a shaman priest. In our world, he's a shoe salesman and lives among the shadows." -Dale Cooper (Twin Peaks)
