I've owned a hard copy of Manheim for years, commonly available in Barnes and Noble, which I purchased with cash. I actually read it recently, took careful notes, and found it interesting even though I don't agree with all of it. It's not at all the tedious read that it's made out to be, as long as you can appreciate an angry tone. Although for a reader sympathetic to Hitler there is an obvious and central problem with Manheim, I decided to just read my copy on principle. I did skimming comparisons with Stalag and although you could argue fine points, the two renderings are in fact substantively very similar, based on the little spot audit that I did anyway.One of the main things I liked about the book is that he's seriously thinking through all the angles of what it takes to be a "supervillain", something I enjoy thinking about. He recognizes that permament cultural change is a multi-generational process, and that to really and permanently change a culture, you have to eliminate the old practice and remove it by two or three generations to get rid of living memory of the old lifeways. Also, he sees that persecution of some undesirable culture (I take christianity as one example, he does not) tends to backfire if you go super-hardcore in what you're trying to do. This is a commonplace, yes, but he's more detailed about it. Actually that bit is a little ironic now that I think about it again, but there it is.I edited my notes down and posted them on /lit/ a short time ago.

I can legally own any book that isn't actual child porn. Even obscene material is legal to own, just not legal to distribute. As far as Mein Kampf, not only is it legal to own, it is legal to publish, distribute, or even read out loud on a street corner while standing on a soap box.
