Happy birthday to the best author of all time, Yukio motherfucking Mishima! TORA! TORA!! TORA!!!
No-one reads 20th century literature here any more? Fucking zoomers...
Among the most fascinatingly singular figures to have ever applied ink to page. Spring Snow is a novel of ethereal beauty. Happy birthday. You've done a lot.

>>24109265One of my favourite passages from him:>On certain occasions human beings are imbued with the belief that they can accomplish anything. In such moments they seem to glimpse much that is normally invisible to human eyes. Then, later, even after they have sunk to the bottom of memory's well, these moments sometimes revive and again suggest to men the miraculous plenitude of the world's pains and joys. None can avoid these moments of destiny; nor can anyone—no matter who he is—avoid the misfortune of seeing more than his eyes can take in.
>>24109265I was born on the same day as him.
>>24109265it is also my birthday

Happy 100th birthday to the man of sun and steel. Greatest non-Euro writer of the 20th century.>Dreams, memories, the sacred - they are all alike in that they are beyond our grasp… It acquires the beauty of the unattainable, the quality of the miraculous... How strange man is! His touch defiles and yet he contains the source of miracles.
No one here has read Mishima. Otherwise Forbidden Colors and his other works would have shitposting status.
I've only read The Sound of Waves over 10 years ago. Can someone recommend some of their favorites?
>>24110212I would recommend starting with Sailor. If you can read only one, however, he himself called Spring Snow his best and that's what I would recommend. I haven't yet read Golden Pavilion, but I have high hopes for it. If it's as good as I'm imagining it to be, I will start recommending people to read it between Sailor and the Sea of Fertility tetralogy.
Thanks, I appreciate it.
>>24109265PewDiePie's favorite author. Tells you a lot.
>>24109424That anon is very clearly German, so might as well.
>>24109265He was the first author who ever truly made me feel understood. Happy birthday aniki.

>>24110209I didn't like Forbidden Colors. It was like be was trying too hard to be Oscar Wilde at the cost of his own identity as an author.Confessions of a Mask is the superior faggy lala homo man lit in every way.
>>24110604He has and will outlive you
>''The edge of the slope was skirted by a field that allowed a clear view of the parade ground and barracks of the Azabu Third Regiment below. On the white expanse of parade ground, there was not one soldier to be seen. Suddenly Kiyoaki had the illusion of seeing a huge mass of troops drawn up, just as in the familiar picture of the memorial ceremony near Tokuri Temple for the fallen of the Russo-Japanese war. With bowed heads, thousands of soldiers stood in groups around a white wood cenotaph and an altar covered with white cloths that were blowing in the wind. This scene different from the photo only insofar as the soldiers's shoulders were covered in snow and the visors of their caps had turned white. The moment he saw these phantoms, Kiyoaki understood that they had all died in the battle. The thousands of troops below had massed not only to pray for fallen comrades, but also to mourn their own lives as well.''
What do you guys imagine he's thinking when looking down, at the comtemporary audience for his books?
I hope I'm able to make my way through Mishima in 2 years or so, searching up 1-2 words per sentence
>>24111200what's his contemporary audience? right wing gays?
>>24111310Trans women
>>24111381mishima was the opposite of a tranny though
>>24109265>machinima
>>24110209>Forbidden ColorsSome bouts of misogyny by an older character in that book are pretty funny. What I'd like to see are discussion about Temple of the Golden Pavilion and Confessions of a Mask. Even a few years back people still discussed the tetralogy, now Mishima has been reduced to meme status. Maybe chuds invoke his Sun and Steel babbling essay but it stops there. Might be a general affliction of the times though, zoomers don't read and reduce authors to whatever meme surrounds them
>>24110228>I haven't yet read Golden Pavilion, but I have high hopes for it. If it's as good as I'm imagining it to beit's better than Sailor in every way
>>24112830I've started it today and even only 2 chapters in I can agree. This is some serious schizo shit
