Aside from the obvious ripoff of Battle Royale, the concept and world seems cool, but my God, the prose is so dry, dull and lacks spark and is unengaging. I had to stop reading before I was halfway through I was so bored. Why did this series become a bestseller again?
The majority of people, especially the target audience (young adults) read for the story, not for the prose.
