How would you rate Count Zero and Mona Lisa Overdrive compared to Neuromancer? Finished another read of Neuromancer the other night and it's still great, but I didn't really enjoy Count Zero when I originally read it over 10 years ago. I suppose I was just disappointed with the fact that Case wasn't the protagonist and it colored my read. I didn't get far into Mona Lisa Overdrive before I dropped it.I'm probably going to run through CZ and MLO to give them another chance, but I was wondering what you il/lit/erates thought of them.
>>24112397I read Neuromancer and thought it was good fun, and fine for what it was (which is puerile trash, obviously). Looked briefly at the others, but they didn’t seem worth bothering with.
>>24112397They are one book in my mind. Enjoyed it all.
>>24112397You don't get grated by Gibson's 'edgy' style?
>>24112495lol>>24112522I can see that. I've read so many long books over the last few years that I was surprised by how short Neuromancer was since it was so long since I last read it. I wonder if there's a collected trilogy edition.>>24112650It's an edgy sci-fi noir heist story. I can't think of anything that's cyberpunk that isn't in some way edgy. What do you have umbrage with?
>>24112650>edgy styleImagine getting filtered by a Raymond Chandler wannabe.
>>24112719>What do you have umbrage with? The "vice" style of narrative. It tries to be hip/cool all the time but comes off as forced. Also something hit me when I was reading (more like decrypting) Fanged Noumena and thought "wow, this reminds me of Gibson".It's been awhile. I should reread Count Zero, Mona Lisa Overdrive, and Neuromancer again and try to dial in my thoughts.
>>24112397Count Zero is my favorite Gibson novel>>24112650I read Gibson for his style
