What does /lit/ think?

The only Martin Amis line I have ever laughed at is in London Fields where Keith says "Yeah cheers" every time someone says something he doesn't understand.
>'A child. A baby. You're reaching the age when, according to literature, you'll soon be putting all that behind you. You won't of course. Ever. They won't stop you stropping it, will they, Keith. Oh no. I look at you, and I see a man,' she said, her face flooding with roguish admiration, 'who'd be proud to die with his Johnson in his hand.'
>'Yeah cheers.'

Very different novels; whereas BEE's underlying money-world nihilism is weirdly atomistic, or 'rational,' Amis's is frankly Dionysian: a parade of random brush strokes or shiney objects 'concealing' only that there was never anything 'there' to begin with. Except money, of course.
Enjoyed both.

>Money
I'm not sure if I read it wrong, but I found it hilarious. I imagined Matt Berry as the John Self character.

Has anyone read this Amis book? I thought it was pretty good, not great.

For christs sake anon, that is someone's SON!

I'm much more a fan of his essays and reviews (barring the nuclear weapons waffle because for fuck sake man...) but Money is great.

It was the one time I thought he really lived up to his Bellow fixation, instead of trying to crossbreed him with Nabokov. There's so much character and voice and genuine cleverness on display. Otherwise you only really got that side of Amos in his reviews.

For what it's worth Yellow Dog and Lionel Asbo, his most hated novels, are probably the closest analogs to Money and are much better than their reputation would suggest.

He's too old now but prime Berry would've been great casting. I just imagine John as myself, desu.

>prime Berry as american psycho
you can't make shit like this up

Makes my day whenever I see actually insightful criticism on /lit/. It's like trudging through a barren, noxious swamp for days and suddenly spotting beneath the reeds the pristine blue egg of some rare water-fowl believed extinct.

Why thank-you anon =)

Thanks, anon. Fine notice, too
