exquisite prose. sure. Yes I know it's essentially a parable against vanity and the senseless pursuit of hedonism. I do need to reflect on this more (90% done).
Only... the fucking characters are all such insufferable shits. I haven't experienced such visceral loathing towards fictional characters for a very long time. I believe that whatever profound meaning concealed within the beautiful lyrical passages has been marred by how unbearable Dorian and lord big fuck pederast were.
Also, I guess the meme is that the integral version of this book is that it was unfagged in the editing room? is it meant to be a celebration for queer representation or whatever? Because a direct queer reading of this book is "Dorian gray, corrupted by his lordly erastes. All fags are morally bankrupts"?

The prose if godly, it flows like sweet honey nectar. Though you're absolutely right, literally every character is a annoying sacks of shit, even those side characters that were talking at the table, like his aunt, her acquaintances, etc.

I want to read this because I need to read something about vanity right now, but I'm afraid it will hit too close to home and just be difficult to get through for this reason.

Lord Henry is funny, but it seemed just so sentimental and sensationalist. Especially after reading À Rebours immediately before it.

i roughly remember the sub plot and characters in this story but i remember that the fagged content that probably got edited out by publisher was the more lore behind dorian and that friend of his who helped the protagonist to get rid of poor basil's body.it seems both these character had deep homo history which was taboo in those time and hidden well between these two characters . when dorian got corrupted he used this secret between them to make the doctor(i think that character had that profession) to get rid of his victims after he killed them .i will also recommend reading oscar wilde life story from wikipedia or whatever and u will find so many similarities between him and dorian gray story.oscar wilde is one of those great writers whose life story was more amusing than his literary works and plays. this retard faggot made me dive into literature world lol.

Didn't read the spoiler, but does the uncensored version read pretty unedited, like in a messy uncut way?

yeah i found it hard to finish

I can't read even a single line from lord henry, he's literally insufferable. On top of that every single time a woman is described I get the sense wilde is insanely jealous of them. They're all shrill, vapid and visibly aging. The poor people are all ugly. There's one scene at an opera where Dorian observes the "coarse faces and brutal guestures" of the poors, James Vane is ugly, the framemaker's assistant is ugly. The best part of the book is the foreword where it's explained the book was used as evidence of wilde's homosexuality when he tried to sue his boyfriend's dad for slander. Reading that he was found guilty and senteced to years of hard labor that broke his health and killed him before 50 was by far the most enjoyable part of this work.

It's actually about twink death.

the picture of dorian gay
>>
>>24115319
all i can remember from this book was that gay 30 minute chapter where he went travelling or some shit
>>
>all these utter halfwits calling characters "insufferable" like it's valid criticsm

Is it something to read that might help me cope with twink death, or is it just gonna be like watching someone experience the stages of twink death?
Should I just read the Bible if I'm looking to cope?
