I decided to take the e-reader pill so I can download books that are too expensive to purchase a physical copy of and because I'm losing space to store books. Problem is I'm technologically illiterate. Are there any guides in the archives on how best to download books from libgen and internet archive. Also I've heard Amazon can erase all your downloads if you're not careful. Any advice on how to avoid this also and if it's only a risk if I connect to the wi-fi?
Explain to me like I'm a boomer, please.

Also, what is a good and CHEAP e-reader? Doesn't have to be Kindle.
Thanks.

Just get a library card

I have a Kobo Libra 2. You don't need an internet connection to use it after setting it up. This is how I get books for it:
>download the .epub or .pdf file onto your computer from libgen/internet archive/anna's archive/z-lib
>plug in the e-reader to your computer via an USB cable
>the e-reader asks if you want to connect to your computer (tap connect)
>the e-reader shows up as a storage device in the file explorer
>drag and drop the file(s) you downloaded onto the e-reader in the file explorer
>when you're done, right click the e-reader to Eject it
>the e-reader imports the new books
>you can read now
It's no different to moving files onto a USB stick or an external hard drive.
