Is anyone else finding that Kid/YA books are better quality of adult books? I've been re-reading some books I've read in my youth and everything feels a lot more genuine than the constant murder/depression/sex dump of whatever the top 50 is.Even darker themes feel like they hit a lot more in books meant for kids.
>>24116716had a great time reading this in 4th grade. We went to the theater to watch the movie as a class after we finished it.
>>24116716There's a little truth to this. Literature marketed specifically towards kids has to abide by certain unwritten rules, like not including shocking, offensive, or disgusting content just for its own sake and not including explicit sex scenes. Some people see these rules as shackles and end up throwing the baby out with the bath water as they decide to just write something that's as shocking and offensive as possible (and tons of retards lap it up while calling it "transgressive literature" and jerking each other off over how cool it is). But of course now we're generalizing a great deal.
>>24116716Dahl's The Witches fucked me up as a kid and I still think about/am captivated by the experience decades later. I cannot say the same about the majority of adult fiction I've now consumed.
When good respected authors go to children's stories its usually their best work
>>24116716>the top 50whose top 50 are you referring to?
>>24117012really google'd top 50 [enter genre] books >>24117001honestly i think the "edgy" stuff takes me out of the experience, at some point it's almost comedic how some authors go way overboard it's no longer scary or disgusting but just "wtf is this guy on"
