Mirra Ginsburg did a translation of The Master & Margarita and Notes From Underground that are much better than those of Puke & Vomit.

P&V are obviously not good, but for Notes I read that of Ronald Wilks. I prefer a male whenever possible.

I can't see ever having such a strong opinion about a translator. You either take it or leave it. If I cared that much, I'd just learn the original language.

They dominate the market (because their publishers pay everyone), so actual well made translations end up going out of print. They drive people away from good books.
