Have you read their works and are they really as transcendent as they claim to be deserving of the prize or are they just common garbage?
>>24120499>What do you think of Literature Nobels?I don't think of them at all.

>>24120499>Han Kang>”intense poetic prose”>Korean languageSo, are Anglos just supposed to ignore all the ones that aren’t writers in the English language?Anglos can’t appreciated the thing she is being given the award forSo, do the judges have to be able to read Korean? But then what about shortlisted works in other languages? How do judges weigh one work against several when they’re all in different languages?I don’t get it
>>24120548nobel prize awards are just like eurovision where only that country's writer/poet wins award cuz of west's political motive or in a form of sympathy applause.
Most neo-liberal thing of all time. Not that a lot of authors that win aren't good
>>24120578I wouldn't be surprised if the Hwang affair had some part in the decision. Koreans are weird about getting the Nobel.
>>24120499It holds no stock as a literary award, or shouldn't. It's dumb and not based on merit.
>>24120651Reductive to the point of inaccuracy
It's intresting that Japanese literature hasn't won for 30 years despite publishing a hell of a lot of books

>>24120499Never even heard about her
I've been going through the authors who've won and find that they're at least interesting and sometimes amazing. The only really stupid one is Bob Dylan who I like as a songwriter but that isn't what the fucking prize is for
>>24120499Nobel is not about literary merit, it is about the effect the writer has had on the world. You have been brainwashed by the media and marketing. Which is not to say there is no literary worth in the works awarded the prize, just that literary worth is a secondary consideration.
>>24121209I don't know what they were thinking
