why is Nabokov so good, bros?
>>
Been reading a lot of assorted cosmic horror and weird fiction & folk horror lately. Almost finished The White People by Machen. Is it just the season or is this shit really good?
>>
Hi everyone, I am now on 1 maccabees in the apocrypha in nrsv. 700 pages to go

It's good when the enemy dies.

And if you are my enemy?

I want to write erotica for fun but I don’t know if my gf would like it. I’m a little shy of bringing it up too. I don’t want her to think of me as a degenerate (or to be more honest, to know that I am a degenerate when it comes to smut)
>>

Write it then pretend you found it online and ask her what she thinks about it

Mr. Kirk said and supported bad things, so in some ways his death was good (by stopping those bad things). This doesn't mean the killer is justified.

Do you folk have any recommendations for Sufi Poetry? Where to start, what Translation is best, etc. If I don't get any replies I'm just going to bite the bullet and start a thread. Or googleit like a chump.

The White people is a great book and I still remember the absolute chills when I first 'got' the story on my first read.

Three Impostors is also decent. High quality work but not as uniformly chilling.

This search for Sufi Poetry began when a dude told me about a line in Omar Khayyam's Rubbyiat. And I decided maybe my work would be a little less drab and generic if it was derivative from more and exotic things. So I am trying to read Sufi Poetry. Later I'll see if Tibetan Buddhist works are any good. Or idk, Esoteric Nazism. I've read samples from Devi and Serrano; imo Devi far outclasses Serrano but I instinctually prefer the latter because he is a Spic and I sympathize with his plight. I'd still read both, though.

How do I find the cheapest quickest way to finish a bachelor's if I already have an associates? Any major. I've been trying to look it up but these websites never distinguish in state and out of state tuition. I'll do online school. I just need the fuckin paper

How do I get better at writing? Is it really just practice and reading a lot?
>>
>>24717935
I really see questions like
>How do I get better at writing
very very similarly to
>How do I get more empathy
or
>How do I feel more human
idk why

Im going for a BA in history and the workload is already starting to get to me. Wrote to my Writing 1 Prof that I might have to get assistance in handling deadlines (i have ass burgers so im going to university for free basically)

I feel like I have good thoughts and ideas, but writing them down feels more like a humdrum process of compartmentalizing and imprisoning those ideas into the infrastructure of words and sentences. Writing doesn't make me feel empowered to express, it makes me feel like I'm playing tetris

What's the name for an essay that's only four or five to six paragraphs long that's not just "short essay"?

When I was a kid I used to hoard mangas and e-books. Then I stopped for a long time, browsing mostly online and reading them through a site. Now, I think I might get back to downloading them again.

I have tons of epubs and pdfs on my kobo.

The stress of the past days turned out not to necessarily be because of my trouble with "X," but rather how starved I was for actual connection. I am not a friendless man. I am hardly friendless. But I only have a precious few people who I can truly connect with. The people who "get it" and get it completely. The people I can share with and share with me in turn.
So, when faced with the prospect of losing even one of these connections, even potential ones, I am seized by this paralyzing fear. Seized by fear when, in fact, I should be focused on cultivating even more connections.
It turns out that human connections are like a garden. Some connections wither, some connections continue blooming, and some connections even bloom into something beautiful.
I am thankful that I had realized this. It must have come at a very late time, but I am glad the realization came to me at all.

>try to write my review of the film/books I read
>end up spending 2-3 paragraphs paraphrasing the plot
fuck

Downloading them is for the best. I had to put finishing some light Manga on MangaDex on hold because of university for several weeks then the day after it's over and I can get back to reading, it all gets taken down. Have to use a shitty Aggregator now.

Deadlines fucked me up so bad last semester I could only sleep for a few hours each night before waking up in a fervor, unable to fall back asleep until I wrote more. All for nothing really, since the essays were crap. Not that it helps much, but have you peer reviewed other people's essays? When I did I wondered why I spent so much time fussing over minor things, letting the deadline creep closer and closer for minor revisions when really it just needs to show some decency.

This is just a notion I'm stealing from Roger Ebert (I agree with it greatly) but I think reviews should be able to stand on their own. I think a well-written summary is necessary for a digestible review, and it makes your points clear even to someone who hasn't read/watched it.

there's just too much noise out there, people whining, bitching and moaning and complaining about this and that, people are like little children, always unhappy about something
I wish the internet and the world will just explode and stop existing in one flash or some shit

You're clinging to a dying light. Help me snuff it out, so that I may create a new world in the oncoming darkness or die defending this decaying one."

i dreamt i was at this crazy work/college party thing that spread way across something like overwatch's junkertown map, and at one point i found pynchon lounging by himself, and i was like oh shit whats up bro... and some zoomer coworker came up like who the fuck was that old dude why were u acting so respectful, and i was just like he made some good art in the 20th century, not wanting to blow his cover, and he just sort of grinned at me as we walked to another part of the campus/worksite party whatever the fuck.

there was some other weird like some butch lesbians on some vertical climber machine like thing that was attached to a lumber mill device and they were like showing off crushing logs with it as some kind of attraction to the party, and later i thought someone stole my order of amazon books but they just got lost and i found them, and all that other dream shit.

ba in history is all about time management, that's the skill you're flexing in that degree, like how stem degrees are testing how many trivial formulas you can memorize in 15 weeks, history degree is how many pages of dry academic texts can you plow through and then synthesize into some kind of presentable idea.
