>What is /wng/ — Web Novel General?
A general for readers and authors involved or interested in the growing phenomenon of 'web novels', serialized English fiction posted to websites such as: Royal Road, Webnovel, Scribblehub, Wattpad, Archive of Our Own, Spacebattles, HFY, various personal author websites, and more

>Why read web novels?
Not for prose or tight editing or deep themes, frankly. As a whole, web novels are infamous for content sprawl and pacing issues. If you enjoy having millions of words to sink your teeth into to get to know the world and characters, though, you may be interested. Keeping up with other readers on a weekly basis to discuss the story's events unfolding is another perk, in the same way discussing an ongoing TV show might be.

>Why write web novels?
Ease of access & potential for Patreon earnings. Many successful authors gain an audience on their website of choice and funnel their readers into a Patreon. See graphtreon.com/top-patreon-creators/writing for an idea of what some are earning.
Also, once an author has earned a fanbase, transitioning into an Amazon self-publishing career is several orders of magnitude easier than starting 'dry'.

It was previously posted that it'd be added to the OP, but if not, I'll probably post it every now and again. Not too often though. When I get around to it,the next thing is checking the rest to see if they're sold on Amazon or elsewhere. Maybe add a publisher column since that'd only be a few. Possibly an Audiobook column. I could a verification column, though I don't know how many would be willing to do that aside from anonymously posting in the thread that it's them. That's not enough. That means, with a C grade talent like Fang Yuan, only having 40~50%, if they were hit by this Moonshadow Gu, they would be unable to deploy a single ounce of primeval essence, losing all their battle strength and were as good as crippled.

>Of course, if it were Fang Yuan, if the Moonshadow Gu was used on him, it would be ‘throwing a meatbun at the dog’ - what’s gone can never come back.

They dont spell it out for you explicitly with how little the anime covers, but honestly if youre paying attention and actually think about what the cast is going through thats the conclusion you should get through anyway. They show up with no idea of who they are or where they came from and are promptly introduced to the draft office where they are informed they can either work for their meals(serve as irregulars in the military) or starve to death. Alsowhile it wasnt clearly apparent in the show the rest of humanity outside the 'beginner city' is basically in ruins and/or anarchy despite the city the story starts at being the frontier. The story is told through the eyes of retarded teenagers though(the perfect draft material) so they are pretty much entirely unaware of whats going on in the greater world as theyre just trying to make it to tomorrow.

Caffeine used to be nothing to me in my teens, then in my 20s it started working and was a huge aid for focus without hindering sleep much, and now in my mid 30s they have enough of an effect that if I drink any caffeine after 2pm I have a hard time falling asleep.

When I'm writing specifically it helps me stay on task and focused rather than tabbing away the internet or other bullshit. And the dopamine effect makes me look forward to writing time every day, and it has a further beneficial effect as an appetite suppressant which is good because I'm on a cut.

I'm not saying everyone has to drink as much caffeine as me. But I do find it very helpful.

Guys, just 10 follower left to 200 forFFF-Class 'Unlucky Antagonist!'

Is the anon who did Elf-GF art still here? If yes, are you willing to draw the 200 followers special?
>>
>>24783205
>she's been a major plot device for more than half of the plot beats
I'd say she's been a major forced plot device if anything.

After her rescue arc, they go to Meridian on Vivi's behalf. The whole train scene forcedly involved the catgirl. The classic uptight noble scene could have happened without the girl. She happens to forget the one item she cares about in the world, only to force an extended action scene (with many annoying catgirl anxiety chapters).

Then in Meridian, we get more catgirl anxiety, getting to the inn. Vivi does her thing, then goes on a whole arc going around the city secretly to formulate a plan that targets the catgirl's source of anxiety, walking on eggshells to avoid asking the catgirl (and thus causing her anxiety). Then she outfits and trains the catgirl, leading to a few more catgirl anxiety chapters. They visit the library and get more catgirl anxiety scenes. And now we finally get another catgirl anxiety chapter.

>her being there has no effect on the story
What I really meant is that her being there doesn't cause the plot to advance. The story would have gone on whether she's there or not. She's just an accessory that takes 80% of the screentime.

>>
>>24783308
I don't think it's that arbitrary, it follows it's own logic consistently and looks that way because new Warrens can be created. It's just not apparent to the reader what that logic is. I find it more interesting than a simple one where the gods or whatever created it to be a certain way and it stayed static like that with no effect on it by dragons, elder races or eventually humans.
Of course it's probably not suited for web novels, it's better to have a simple system there.

They're elves. Literally, stereotypically, elves. Humans manage to piss them off so badly the elves go on a genocidal rampage trying to kill all humans and become known as demons. It's a bit of a plot twist later on because the demon threat is known ahead of time and it's only when they show up in person that the reader is clued in.

While I do have humanity broken up into races I just don't even get into racial differences outside nationalities. All humans are white, just different tribes/nationalities. They are, of course, prejudiced in their own ways but it's explicitly just a matter of cultural chauvinism and competition for scarce resources. There are also class differences that are relevant for plot reasons, but remain unexplored in terms of whether a class-based society is good or not.

I hope readers find it refreshing to read a story where the bad guys are clearly aliens, and humanity is just different kinds of white and there's no racial allegories or any of that bullshit.

For his story, it is a good result

He's taking the slow and steady approach and he's getting average to good results for that approach. The more followers he gets, the more RR will recommend him below other stories that those followers are also following.
It doesn't seem like he's monetizing his book(s) through either patreon or amazon, so I'm not sure what his endgame is, but if he's in it purely for the love of the game he's doing well (even if his posting style is obnoxious, it's within limits).

Yep. I know exactly what I'm doing and that's part of why I don't like my story here on 4chan. My author persona is a total goody-two-shoes and politically oblivious who just so happened to write a humans vs elves story with extremely strong european vibes and heterosexual young romance and a huge focus on family and overcoming adversity.

I got a comment IRL from someone when they saw the MC on the cover and it was like they couldn't imagine such a european-looking hero. I just smiled and said "yeah, that's him, what's wrong with that?" and they dropped the subject.

It turns out, representation does matter and I'm doing my part. Even if the actual writing and structure isn't the best because it's my first story lol.

I'm still writing its big beautiful backlog, I showed a few of the immediate alpha version chapters dealing with them but they didn't get much eyes on them, oh well. Maybe next time

I'm grateful to him for his shitty shilling ways, because when I searched out his story, which sucked so bad I dropped it on page one, I stumbled upon FFF-Clas Trashero, which delighted me for about eighty chapters before devolving into incoherent MTL nonsense that was still more engaging than Unfortunate Antagone or whatever the fuck shill-kun calls the slop ChatGPT rolled up for him.

>Pivoted to FFF-Clas Trashero.

>>
>imagine a future that doesn't suck
>result is basically worldbuilding jerkoff shit
>can't tell a story without "ackshully this is why this sucks" because slice of life with cute girls happy days only works in anime or an otherwise visual media

On the verge of pulling the trigger on "eugh my life sucks I'm so overworked, I'm sick all the time, bills are unreal, ahhh I got hit by a truck and am bleeding out, I hope that if I get reincarnated I have an easier life next time, wow future cool wow life doesn't suck now so many cool things to do and see!". I feel like I am cornered by my own hackiness and will either have to accept being a hack or give up.

I'm here to entertain my readers.
It's okay to find big tits aggressive high class young women attractive, and I'm tired of pretending it's not.
>>
>>24783642
So it's a gooner slop? No, thanks.
>>
>>24783675
It's not very high class to be aggressive/forward as a young lady though.
