Life's generally been going great. Yet, I'm feeling a bit uninspired and listless as of late. How do (you) get your mojo back? I like a long, long walk for this purpose but since I moved to the city it's not nearly as nice.

In a mojo-less state it's a coin toss for me. As likely as not to be sitting there "turning pages" rather than reading, no matter how much I focus. It's like it just doesn't go in.

Having eczema sucks. You wanna scratch that part of your body but you shouldn't.
>>
>>24803107
I have it in my hands. They both scratch each other like good brothers. Sometimes I scratch them while driving and can barely handle the wheel. I sleep with gloves. Some creams help; other make your skin addicted and before you know it you get an itch because your hand needs corticoids. Scratching feels so good because you know it's wrong but past a certain point it just feels shameful and then your scars start bleeding and you have to stop and clean yourself and think about what you have done. They say some adults just happen to develop eczema at some point in their lives and it may never go away.

I was thinking about adding Sally Rooney to my reading list but is she actually good, bros? Normies hype her up but even outside of /lit/ I've seen some commies I know stop reading Intermezzo because they thought it was bad so now I have my doubts

Didn't know Claire Keegan got this much recognition over the years, but I'm so happy she does. It seems /lit/ just didn't catch up on her yet, which is sad, because it means that the /lit/bro isn't even up to date with what the book market has to offer.
>>24803369
I've only read Normal People.
Sally Rooney's idea of communism is very whataboutist, so it feels like virtue signaling. The incipit was generic, male readers might think it's basically a romance novel disguised as a litfic.
But the depiction of depression was *chef's kiss*. Too bad it lasts half a dozen pages in total and it's the only good thing in the book.
I would not recommend.
>>24803178
The backlash to Zoomer Puritanism won't happen because it already morphed into Thiel&Co. authoritarian ramblings.
If anything, that is what will be hit by the next swing of the political pendulum.

I'm reading a book right now, and it's just not attacting my attention. I want to drop it but it's a sort of sequel to a book I really, really enjoyed and I don't want to miss out on some extra lore or the author writing something as good as his previous book further into the story.
>>
>>24803518
Lol I wasn't talking about communism anon. I meant even people who aren't prejudiced against her find her book boring, I know she writes romance/lit-fic. But you're saying she's shit so, I guess I'm skipping her then

I finally went over to the dark side and played with sloppa even more, and of course I've been doing my best to have text2img generate all my fetishes, so I double check my prompt like this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYwGKcUF63A&t=40
and then I press gen and it almost looks like it finally worked but she's got three left arms coming out of the same elbow and there's an eyeball in her nose. I fucking HATE it so much. I say a FIT girl AND a PETITE girl, no, they're both fit, I don't want them more fit I want one to be bigger than the other. I tried rearraging the words in every possible way, nothing, it doesn't get it, if I told this to a person he'd be like, yeah, fuck man, I get it, right? and one is wearing black lace and the other white lace? YES my man, OF fucking COURSE you understand this on the fly, because you're a fucking human being, and obviously I don't even have to explain this shit to you, it's like a nonverbal thing that you just pick up automatically, YES of fucking course there's fit girl holding the petite girl and she's wearing black lace but the other is wearing white lace, and of fucking course, I am sure that anyone who's got a dick reading this is already imagining the white lace girl to be blond and the black lace girl to be a brunette, right? NO, ISN'T THIS A FUCKING BANALITY, ISN'T IT EVEN KIND OF BORING, OH WOW THAT'S SO STANDARD BUT NO, THIS RETARDED MACHINE WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND ME, I HAVE TO EXPLAIN THIS OBVIOUS SHIT TO IT AND THEN HE GENS SOMETHING WRONG AND I KNOW THAT IF THIS LITTLE SHIT CREATURE HAD EYES IT WOULD LOOK UP AT ME QUIZZICALLY LIKE, "IS THIS OK? IS THIS RIGHT?" AND I WOULD BARK IN ITS FUCKING FACE NOOOOOO, YOU DON'T GET IT YOU LITTLE SHIT, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA I HATE AI EVEN MORE

How far is the nearest park or country side?

On my local walks I try to get in as many green spaces as possible avoiding main roads. Other options including going slightly further a field, but not by much, to somewhere green or blue and quiet. I like a certain section of the promenade away from the hustle and bustle but not too isolated socially.
>>
I sat down on the couch. I could hear birds chirping through an open window. I turned on the music and took a long drag from the joint. The voices and marimbas flowed gently from the speaker. I put the bag over my head and tightened the velcro strap around my neck until it was snug and pushed the tip of the hose through the little gap at the bottom. I turned the valve on the tank and the hose started to hiss as the cold gas flowed out. I took long deep breaths and my body felt good and the music was still flowing warmly and my head began to feel fuzzy my body pleasantly light as I drew deep breaths and everything was vibrating pleasantly and I started to fall asleep.

You're right to not dumb yourself down, just don't be the guy that uses ten dollar words when buying something at McDonald's. I recently found myself realizing the same thing - that I was inadvertently dumbing myself down because I assumed that people just wouldn't get anything I'm saying - which is not really fair to myself or them.
While context matters, I've found delivery and rhetorical style matters a lot too. If you sound like a massive autist, best reserve your tangents to friends who you trust enough to deal with your eccentricities. But if you're reasonably well-spoken and articulate, without being highfalutin, everyone will appreciate that.

I hate my mother but also I love her

I will never understand the conservative impulse to constantly whine about government waste and overspending. It's a complicated world, things cost money. And if 5% of my tax dollars are going to putative waste, so what? I don't expect perfect efficiency, and often times the systems which best foster that other 95% enables a little bit of fat here and there.

But no, it's "they're spending thousands on protecting a tree that benefits no one! shut down everything that monitors the environment and wildlife and greenery!" or "a couple people are taking advantage of welfare and free healthcare!? now no one deserves it!!" like what the fuck, calm down, don't throw the baby out with the bathwater, but their emotions blind them to all that.

I'm just saying, I'm fine with a bit of waste and leachers on the system if it means things and people who need the funding are getting it, y'know? Better than cutting down on waste and those who supposedly don't deserve help, and then whose really in need of funding and subsistence are left out in the lurch.
>>
>>24803916
I agree, but I feel like this brand of fiscal conservatism died decades ago (outside of budget season rhetoric).

I thought so too until I saw how right-wingers on this site and MAGA elsewhere talk about government spending, it's disgusting and shortsighted. And now you have the Trump Administration trying to gut more federal workers as a way to pressure the Democrats to fold on the shutdown, what the fuck? They probably have no idea who they're firing or why, but the average conservative will support it because "saving my hard earned tax dollars" when it's a pennywise and a pound-foolish -- you save on some money here, but then you lose out on billions in the downstream consequences, not to mention quality of life. Goddamn, I can't stand it.
>>
YouTube is not working, pajeets are probably to blame
>>
>>24803936
You're still fighting the last war. The two kinds of funding cuts that appeal to MAGA (I would know) are:
1. This is being run incredibly inefficiently and could probably cost a tenth and still function (Musk learned this at Twitter and it's what he was brought in for)
2. This is being run by people who hate you and should not be supported even if it costs $0.01 (USAID's more ideological programs).
I don't have it out for government workers but some of the firings are definitely a combination of 1 and 2.

You'll still hear the old versions occasionally because it's like the old conservatives fell of a cliff, but I don't think it's central.
>>
>>24803945
thanks for affirming my suspicions
>>
>>24803946
>it's like the old conservatives
*it's not like, whoops.
>>
>>24803946
The problem is those are often used as cover for wider, less discriminate cuts. USAID has some waste? Okay, sure. But then it gets cancelled entirely. There's some healthcare bloat and fraud and waste? Okay. But then Republicans cut free healthcare from tens of millions in their BBB. Some onerous, needless regulation exists? Agreed. But then the directors put in place don't believe in the agency's mission at all and their staff is gutted. Stuff like that. Hell, a lot of people on the right don't even see working for the government as a real job lol, so when they see cuts of any kind, their instinctual response is "good riddance" when the fact-of-the-matter is, for every regulation and federal job, there's almost assuredly a good reason for it.

It's like that old adage about how it's better to let the guilty man go than wrongfully punish the innocent man? It's better to let a few putatively inefficient and wasteful programs and subsidies exist than to cut the truly necessary and beneficial ones.
>>
>>24803978
>some waste
>>
>>24803978
>It's better to let a few putatively inefficient and wasteful programs and subsidies exist than to cut the truly necessary and beneficial ones.
I get what you're saying but we're not talking about jailing the people who get fired. You're owed a fair trial before criminal punishment, you're not owed billions of dollars, taken out of people's paycheck who also need the money, that *might* be used on necessary program.

forgot to reply to the person who asked me this but Pol Pot criminalized adultery and targeted urban intellectuals most likely because they used their power and influence to divide and conquer the working classes in the Khmer Rouge. the criminalization of adultery could be seen as simply a way to combat the western influence of feminism, as he probably knew that women could attain mates easier than men - which is why he had a laissez-faire attitude towards male adultery. Pol Pot is the kind of leader we need now, but in the west.
>>
>>24804213

>>24803178
that's a bit of a gross oversimplification. the problem is zoomer women are too picky for their own good but zoomer men are too neurotic and high inhibition to commit to putting women in their place which overall just creates a wholly dysfunctional society. it doesn't help that the state sides with women overwhelmingly.

im trying to write a book that reinterprets my journals of the past 10 years into something digestible and approachable and im treating those pages as sort of raw data for it. Im having fun sticking ideas and passages that come to me on my wall and i believe i have a good list of characters and their motivations and stories but i think im getting too married to this idea and i believe im having more fun planning than what actually comes - the writing. Does planning end when i feel ready to start putting down the words or should i just stop now and just start seeing what comes out?
>>
>>24804644
i think the problem with that is that i read technical manuals alot and one of my hobbies is reading car service manuals but thats hard to tell people irl because when the expect me to tell them about the classics im reading i juts want to talk about the 1998 Hilux manual and why it kinda sucks compared to domestic manuals and Japanese layouts waste so many pages by comparison and none of them have actual photos? stop printing diagrams of the area in question

Writing smart characters in TV shows must be the easiest thing in the world. It always works the same way, have them make some genius deductions and/or predictions, and because it's fiction, they're of course right, and bam, everyone is amazed and impressed. Wow, so difficult.
>>
>>24804890
It's easy to write a shit smart character like what you just described, but if you want to write a good smart character, you have to write how they came to those answers and conclusions, and that requires smarts from the Writer. Death Note is a good example of this. All the smart shit that characters like L and Light come to are explained and thought out on the page. They'd be much less impressive characters if Ohba just said "And suddenly, Light figured it out" and never explained how.
>>
>>24804895
My point is the 'how' is always easy when you work backwards, hence the gluttony of shows where the main character is hyper-competent (Sherlock, Psych, Suits, etc.).

Keep in mind, I'm distinguishing this from *smart shows*, which is what I think you're defending.
>>
>>24804904
Ah, I get what you're saying. Yeah, I agree with you.

Strange to see that Don Delillo has been married to the same person for 50 years for a guy who writes about adultery so often

Everything is forgotten today. Nothing lasts at all. Our attention spans have been completely and utterly fried by the short-form video format and AI diluting all cultural creativity. Good art and entertainment is simply not important anymore. You can make a masterpiece and it won’t make any difference to anything.

I started doing small annoying things to try and get my brother to move out
He is annoying, so I'm going to make it miserable for him to live with me, and if he doesn't like it, then he can just move out.
I'd move out but I can't afford to, but he can, so I'm gonna see if I can make him move out instead
You might think it's petty but he's been an inconsiderate condescending asshole for years to me and I can't deal with it anymore. Years of waiting for God to bring justice, and there's nothing. So it's time for me to take matters into my own hands

My cousin had a serious accident. They started a fund and I sent him around $5k.
A year later I was away for a year and he asked, through my parents if he could crash at my place while it's empty. I assumed he meant crash, as in just him sleeping there for a few weeks.
When I came back he had his entire family with 3 kids and a femoid in my tiny house 24/7, the yard was full of trash and he had no inclination to find another place until I gave him a deadline.
I asked him about the comically huge TV in the living room. He bought it like a month after I sent him $5k.
Turns out this retard even makes more money than me.

I started jerking off to relief the pain and loneliness with stress

I have a cousin story that happened a few days ago. She caught me in the bathroom with my pants down and polishing my boner with a banana peel. Later I told her it wasn't what it looked like; what I heard was that banana peels are good for the skin. Her response was that she gets it. The banana was given to me by her, so I wanted to make sure she didn't have some weird idea or anything.

I haven't posted on /lit/ despite being a nonzero influence on the board from 2017-23. I've actually become what I used to decry: a brain damaged /pol/ poster. I just find the profane thrill of insulting people online an irresistible candy. I feel particularly guilty about people of Indian extraction, because I find the slur "jeet" autistically stimulating and numerous. In reality I believe India has a respectable and considerable cultural contribution to world history, including the religion that is most likely to be objectively correct (as represented in the Vedas). I also clown on black people too frequently, despite the fact that I know appareances can be deceiving and it's pure ignorance to assume everyone behaves the same on the basis of their color of their skin (culture notwithstanding). I've also insulted muslims a lot, especially recently with the unspeakably numerous ZUTT memes. Islam for all its history of militant aggression has certainly contributed its fair share to history. As for jews, the jokes write themselves. There always seems to be a jew engaging in some form of financial fraud or acting in a very public sketchy way. Am I to ignore this objective reality? For various asians: I genuinely just admire your various cultures and various mockings of your accents are purely in jest. China in particular exhibits a breathtakingly consequential and consistent cultural and ethnic influence throughout the centuries.
>>
>>24807019
Edit: I wrote numerous instead of humerous twice in this post. Make that of what you will.
>>
>>24807019
Almost as if those people who complained jokes do, in fact, lead to genuine, tangible hatred and discrimination were right.
>>
I work a corporate job with so much jargon and bullshit it's tormenting. But the pay more than covers my graduate program tuition and I do the bare minimum. Even though I try to save my energy for things I enjoy, it's exhausting feeling unfulfilled.
>>
>>24807023
Or perhaps the reverse is true? There's something to hate in almost everything if you squint hard enough. Even the things I idealize betray me. I tend to hate certain processes and tendencies, often for reasons which I feel are objectively defensible, for example: uncontrolled immigration. Do I hate the people immigrating? Not personally, I don't know them. I hate the process because I know it destabilizes and injects chaos to an already broke system that can't take care of its own natural born tax paying citizens.
Joking about these various things always point to the unspeakable fact that there's usually something hatable about whatever you're joking about. Jews do behave in sketchy, economically destabilizing ways that appears more often than other ethnicities, that doesn't mean every jew is guilty. Indians do destabilize labor economics in the west because of capitalist systems. Black people do engage in more crime than non-black people, for whatever reason. These contradictions must be resolved in their own right.
As for white people: they are far from blameless. But the story would be completely inverted if it was white people rushing to fill non-white countries. Everything has gotten shittier as more third world imports has increased, that correlation cannot be dismissed. It just seems as if the unresolved pathologies of those countries transmit to the host countries.
