I was reading Disapeerers due to a ragebait /pol/thread, but I gave up. I can't. I am 100 pages in, hell I could anger skim read it to get the plot or find some nice passages. And that's what's frustrating, it has some nice elements. But it's so fucking annoying about it.
This, at the second part, of the pivotal attack THAT DEFINES THE LOGLINE, THE SUMMARY, THE POINT OF THE NOVEL. And we keep the same bombardment of cultural references. We kept the maximum, overly detailed paragraphs bursting with details that don't matter. The characters just say what they believe. Stuff that didn't need to be even said is said. And pop culture references. So many references. "Oh he's like X, but not that type of X".

They were an nyc punk band that made one album and then broke up but became incredibly influential in the punk rock world and basically invented the “crust punk” genre. Not only that, it's done for max confusion. Watch, I will make it 100% more understandable.
1. Used star in this way before the book (he never did. He used brattyboy, bomboclaat, raas so much I understood those are slurs. But not here)
2. Write "So star" or "Come star". With this, instead of an ambiguous noun/pronoun, it is now unambiguously a noun. I can pick up that it's at least slang then look it up.
Instead, it is indictive of the book. It has some well-written sections, but it's clear that it isn't for me. It's for the author. A simple word could offset this problem but it doesn't.

I can recollect whose role is for who in the play, what Eddy's home life is. I can recall the alterations of his name (Edmond, Eddy, Edwarda, Eddita). I can recall Paul Royle, Jordan Brown, Havelock, Clint, Matt. I even know the color of their skins, with Matt being lightish Asian for example. Again, when the book is reeled in, it's nice. It really is But it ends up being hit and miss, and right now it missed so damn hard that I gave up. Like this passage: not a single reference, used in the correct context of slice of life reflection so it's longer, and says something important, which is the story of violence.
