It helps that they cared about the wordbuilding and /m/ stuff rather than just the girls -- I especially appreciate how the Sakura Wars anime did this. I also think Galaxy Angel was one of the last cel-animated /m/ shows, the last being Astro Boy 2003.

The show was meant to be based on the games as a media mix thing but then the games got delayed and he got free reign to do whatever he wanted and he went full retard (this is a good thing). The show ended up absolutely nothing like the games (also the series creator/writer Mizuno AKA Record of Lodoss War guy hates it)I mean he literally got Murakami to come in on an episode voicing a character named "Murakami Kaixa"
