I find realistic mechs extremely cooler than super robots. They look smoother, sleeker, heavier. I don't see a Gundam as this heavy machine of war it is supposed to be, more like an advanced spaceship. I do feel the weight and threat of a Landmate or an AMP suit from Avatar tho.
Sir we post Gundam here
This is what happens when you say "mechs".
>>22702626why the tiny arms?
>>22702732Not that I touched Appleseed but small arms makes it easier to fit into transport planes like the C-5 Galaxy.
>>22702626How is this shit realistic?
>>22702732it's a power armor, the tiny arms are vaguely where the wearer's actual arms arei think they're meant for when the pilot wants to carry/use human-sized stuff
>>22702626You sound like a fat guy who drives a truck
>>22702626>Likes Appleseed>Posts ugly fanartYou're lame. The gratuitously exposed mechanisms are bad enough, but the ankward angle paired with the massive chest makes it look distorted and lopsided. The artist's work on Doom Eternal is alright though.
>>22702732The big arms follow the movements of the small arms, which has the operators actual arms.
>>22702626What do you think of armored troopers?
>>22702846wouldnt that be an insanely vulnerable weakspot
Shameful activity from Realisticucks as usual
>>22703156The arms are about as armored as the rest of operator occupied parts of the landmate.
SHIT JUST GOT REAL YO
Someone needs to make a live action mecha series about a advanced mecha combat squad sent to different hot spots of war around the world. Photo realistic mecha combat scenes.

>>22706770::clears throat::>those hips though wide>do not hinder their stride>for note the wheels>built into the heels>and thus they skate>to aid their gait(And now someone find me a fucking image of a Dr Seuss themed mech. Stat!)
I love the look of MTs from Armored Core. I think if mechs were to be real in the near future they'd look a lot like MTs. Bulky and simple, streamlined for mass production.
>>22704595Man, could you imagine?
>>22709969Why does this dog have a modem for its head
I saw someone call them "rugged mechs" and while I don't know about that exact word, I very firmly agree that "realistic mechs" is definitely the wrong word. A name that implies hand grips and caution tape design but without actually saying "this is what would work in reality" is sorely needed. They're not realistic. They are rugged though.
Here we go again. Someone brought up “realistic” mecha opened that ol’ can o’ worms
>>22709973That is what realistic means. Resembling reality. Not literally real. Realism applied to fiction does not automatically assert it is real, only that the fictional thing is being treated consequentially. Things can be more or less realistic, it's not a single objective value. If people weren't so autistic about strictly defining everything to the smallest detail, and used their words when talking about it, it wouldn't be a problem.
>>22710094>Resembling reality. Not literally realIf someone says "that's a realistic solution" I don't assume they mean it wont work but might kind of look like it could. >only that the fictional thing is being treated consequentiallyThat's also not what it means. That's closer to verisimilitude, which can be applied to completely fantastic, off the wall things. A robot that looks like chinese porcelain powered by angel tears that fights with a big chakram and is controlled by the pilots dick can be treated consequentially but no one's gonna say "that's a realistic mecha". Zearth is consequential and has high verisimilitude lol
There's a real language problem when it comes to "Real Robot" and English speakers and it seems to be that people think there is a suggestion of plausibility with the genre, when really, prior to the original Gundam, there was "Super Robot" which ostensibly were fantasy machines. With Gundam, it took those same fantasy machines but changed their application, so instead of fighting monsters, they fought other machines in the context of a war with a science fiction background that focused on armies. From there on, it's always been about what additional visual details can be introduced to further tie the fantasy machines to *their* setting, it's never actually been about designing something that makes sense within the real world. "Realism" does not equal "reality".

>>22709972Interstellar travel requires at minimum 56k transfer rates.
>>22710144The word can be used perfectly reasonably in multiple ways. Verisimilitude is literally a synonym for realistic. It's called context.
>>22725391>Verisimilitude is literally a synonym for realisticamerican education at its finest
>>22702626What in the world is realistic about that thing?>b-but it has little fiddly bits! You realize real life machines have clean, smooth contours, right?
>>22727888No see this is what a jet would look like if they were real. It's not some simplistic cartoon, it has all the mechanical details that are needed for real things.
>>22725427It's very easy to look things up and not sound stupid. Saying 'American' isn't actually a gotcha.
