God Brave Studio originally planned to design the Kaiser Carrier with rotating double containers, but because Good Smile had the tech from Dynazenon, they instead made the automatic launch gimmick. I don't know what you like anon, but once the characters are established, it's fun, and you get neat additions. I'm not a huge toku person (and I'm not talking about being 40m tall) but I gather that there's quite a bit of cute nods to Ultra and Sentai. Maybe watch something a bit more cheery and unironically a bit more mindless if you're sick, I know I had a confused amount of enjoyment for a few eps of a certain show just because I was watching them while unwell.

Thought this general died out. Good, because GGG and Might Gaine (the former just slightly more) reminded me that I watch anime for joy, not grimdark suffering so Betterman and Brigadoon are out of the question despite mulling over reading that sequel manga. I'd say Betterman is worth watching if you ever wanted to pick up Hakaioh that takes place after Final, which I imagine you would considering its ending. It gives you a jumpscare a few seconds into the first ep and is a bit melancholy and bittersweet, but is ultimately a hopeful story, and some of the characters show up in Hakaioh.

The more I learn about Baan Gaan, the more glad I am that it wasn't made into an anime. The designs are just so mediocre; Dendoh is way cooler.

Would Tetsujin FX or Dendoh count as real robot? Those are practically honourary Brave shows, and Dendoh is little kid Dragonar to boot. If you want something more "mature", then I actually recommend SEED Destiny; it has tons of elements of the Braves:

Kind of amusing to me how Dagwon had a henshin hero teenage protagonist (En), and GGG had a cyborg young adult MC (Guy) while Baan Gaan went back to a elementary school protagonist (Shunpei).

Thank you very much. Forgot to mention that another condition is stuff from (English language) Super Robot Wars. Wasn't my intention at first but I wasn't aware T was covering GGG's second half until right before the first route split. The plan was to get back to that game after watching it in full but between other games that came out in the meantime (Gundam Breaker 4* and Echoes of Wisdom) and what's coming on 11/1, I won't mind whittling down the mecha anime backlog a bit more. J-Decker is certainly there (I'll get to SRW 30 eventually) but I hear it got some kind of BD rerelease. Might wait for subs to get transferred before I torrent it.

Switching between real robot and super robot makes the differences clear, as shit like Gundam 00, Buddy Complex (not that I intend to watch the latter so I'm just guessing off what I've seen in SRW X), and even Dunbine are want to blur the lines, which ruins the distinction for me.

As for Betterman, it's a small maybe. Some compare it to Evangelion, which I swore to avoid at all costs because something something deconstruction. On the other hand, (faux-)loli in a transparent dress of promo art is anything to go by. Being half as long as GGG means a shorter investment, so I'll only have wasted as much time as I did with the likes of Brigadoon if I don't like it as much as...well, Brigadoon, which got a little sloppy towards the end but proved to drag itself out of the suffering pit.

*game has some kind of vague roadmap regarding free updates and DLC so I could just as well shelve that for T until it's "complete".

It's so I don't get spoiled on shows I actually care to watch someday. I gave no shits about Cross Ange and Might Gaine came off as toyetically episodic even in SRW V, so I watched those after finishing that game, not before.

If nothing else, Lamia's design involves peak aughts edge nostalgia and the artwork has this feeling that it might've aired on premium cable channels after prime time like Chrono Crusade and Great Teacher Onizuka (odds are if I stumbled onto Betterman instead of the latter I would've found GGG instead of TTGL* two decades earlier). In any case, I'll consider it but I'm likely watching GGG Final before it, though I hear the TV version adds stuff to connect the two (enough to bump it from 8 episodes to 12 though?).

*speaking of TTGL, did it lift protag girlfriend inexplicably becoming (sort of) evil with zero foreshadowing whatsoever (were they under contract to have 49 episodes no matter what episode 48 should've been an epilogue Jesus Christ!) from GGG? If so, the resolution to that was shit and I'm glad X fixed it. Curious to see how T handles something similar.

Neither did I until I gave a singular episode or two a chance, turns out it was the rare occasion where SRW actually made the show less fun rather than more. I feel this is how I came across as years back, asking for recommendations on /m/ and having strong and negative first impressions and delaying things for a while - turns out pretty much everything I was recommended was good fun, I hope you don't let your first impressions dissuade you from shows you might find enjoyable.

I came from having watched GaoGaiGar and J-Decker and only wanting sentient robots, yet here I am, having enjoyed quite a few piloted supers and some piloted reals as well. Oh, Full Metal Panic might be a cheery real-robot show to watch, Nadesico as well, but I haven't seen either yet. I will admit, OPs and the occasional EDs (see: Might Gaine) tend to win me over, considering how much I hear them playing SRW. Probably intentional on the game's part. Hell, I think Nadesico was considered too but everyone hates that Prince of Darkness movie, which is the only Nadesico material V and T cover (don't know yet if T remedies it the same way V did; Akito shows up surprisingly early there). This one ain't bad. For all I know this can be the inverse of Brigadoon where the moody ED belies how the anime as a whole is just a little brighter as per your implying. Unlike Brigadoon.

I don't hate Brigadoon. I just found that unchanging ED aggressively jarring to the point of dark hilarity the further I watched. I'm surprised Marin Asagi didn't get paralyzed from the waist down considering where she was stabbed at the end of episode 20-something. Girl was already outcasted, blind and effectively homeless for fuck's sake.

Yeah. Out of Might Gaine's antagonist roster, Catherine is comic relief. The moment I saw the natto episode is when I stopped taking her seriously as villain and just accepted her as a character of comedy.

Oh, small addendum. Is Mike White literally the only entity linking Brigadoon to GGG? Stallion looked way too familiar to be just a recycled design which jogged my memory of another White but otherwise, I saw nothing in the former that can be referenced in the latter in regards to the lore, short of some obscure Japanese only side material. Checked Japanese Wikipedia but all I got was this.

I'm watching Gaogaigar as my first Brave show. Its obviously aimed at little kids and i guess it works on that level but beyond being well directed and the cool designs im not finding much to enjoy. It's cute and all but not very funny or thrilling or touching. Im on episode 23, dont think im gonna drop it but im also not super excited to continue. Does it get better later on? Are other Brave shows better?

Gaogaigar was actually one of the only Brave shows aimed at an older audience. What part are you having trouble with? It does get better after the half point, as they tone down the MOTW formula for a more serious, ongoing plotline.

The other Brave shows are more kid orientated, but most of them offer something a bit different to each other.

Looking for random input, I’ve seen GaoGaiGar (and Betterman) and I keep getting the urge to watch some more Brave shows. I’m debating between Exkaiser, Might Gaine, and J-Decker. Exkaiser since it’s the first and I’d just like to see how evening began, and Might Gaine and J-Decker because I feel like I’ve just heard them spoken of highly on /m/, don’t know the exact reasons though.
I’ll probably watch all three eventually but just looking for input so I start waffling.

In the time since this post ive finished Gaogaigar and Betterman. The second half of GGG was pretty cool but i still fail to see what makes this show so beloved. Betterman was weird as hell. It's trying to be horror but also comedy at the same time and as a result its not scary or funny at all, but i think it succeeds in being entertaining and exploring tons of interesting sci-fi and philosophical concepts so i think i liked it. Fuck Keita in particular though, if he wasn't there the show would be so much better.
It got pretty confusing at times. I think i got the general plot but im lost as to what the message was.
Anyways, I hope GGG vs. Betterman gets adapted into something someday cause im really curious to see how such different shows clash.
