I'm gonna be honest with you guys, I really don't know if this is the right place to put this. Yes, I know /tv/ exists but it seems like a cesspool, basically /pol/lite these days, and I don't want to deal with that. I've been here for decades, and I know you appreciate Pacific Rim, so I wanted to share this with you. Feel free to tell me to fuck off though if no one cares. I trust you guys.I now own the original Gypsy Danger jaeger helmet Raleigh Becket wore in the first suit-up scene in the film.
>not Mako's helmetbit gay
It comes connected with the tubes used to drain the liquid, a battery pack to power the lights, and two wire wheels to spin the discs on the side.
>>22833790I can always count on you guys to keep me humble.
So uh yeah. Just wanted to share. I need to get a display case made for it now, so it's back in the box it came in. I wore gloves while handling it.
Tight shit, man. probably some of the greatest production design in history.
>>22833786Neat. Did always like the suit designs in that film.
>>22833799How'd get your hands on it? Isn't it like museum property worth? Wouldn't expect them to just sell it.
Cool stuff, did you wear it while listening to Robot Rock yet?
>>22833802It has been sold several times actually. I'm just the most recent owner. I don't plan on selling it though, at least not while I'm still alive. I might donate it to a film museum eventually.>>22833803I am not even going to pretend like I'm putting it on. For one thing, it's not exactly the most solid thing. Film props are built to just barely work, so parts of it are held on by cheap magnets. One of the discs doesn't spin well anymore either. I wore gloves while handling it. You would too if you paid as much as I did for it.
>>22833802A lot of movies will sell off a good chunk of their props and costumes at auction to recover production costs. Especially big, effects driven pictures like Warcraft, 47 Ronin, or Pacific Rim.
>>22833807How much did it cost for you?
>>22833811More than a car.
>>22833794>>22833796>>22833797Love me some good helmet lights, same with Master Chief!
>>22833786Fucking bitchin anon What I wouldn't give to have one of those bomber jackets. >>22833812oooooooooooofffffffffffffffff
>>22833812Damn, didn't know anons had that kinda money, but then again this is /m/, so...Got any more props you want to show us, or is that just the one?
>>22833822I guess you could say they're>IN THA DANGER ZONE!
>>22833822You sorta can: https://www.ebay.com/itm/254954625794>>22833823That's actually the only prop I own, and probably the only one I am going to buy. Shit's too expensive. I do however have quite a sizable collection of 08th MS Team cels I've posted before... Basically I'm a programmer with no GF/wife so it's not like I have much to spend on. That and I fully admit this is probably as close to a mid life crisis buy as I'm gonna get. Some people buy sports cats. I buy a nerd item.
>>22833826>Some people buy sports cats
>>22833835>he doesn't know about the cat football, cat basketball and cat baseball leagues
>>22833839Kek, well played.
>>22833835I blame my cats.
>>22833812I mean, that's not really saying much depending on the car lol
>>22833855More than a brand new car. Around the price of an EV.
>>22833786Any idea how the hell the fluid thing works? Is it like a two layers of glass thing where the fluid was just a thin sheet in the visor?
>>22833894It's two layers of plastic. There's just a tube going out the back. My assumption is they just pulled out a stopper and let it drain.
>>22833786This is extremely fucking coolThanks for sharing, anon
>>22833786Neat! I’d probably do the same if I were you - having a totally unique, one of a kind item that you’re the proud owner of, is totally worth whatever it is that it cost. It’s the little things that may not mean much to most people, but their worth is in how they relate to something you truly love and enjoy and can be proud ofCare to post the 08th MS Team cels you have? That’s also fucking cook
>>22833786Now that’s actually pretty cool
>>22833826Ah, you're that guy. Thanks again for sharing those cels before.
>>22833786>I now own the original Gypsy Danger jaeger helmet Raleigh Becket wore in the first suit-up scene in the film. That's pretty cool, I'm glad when movie props go into the hands of people who are fans, and not just sitting in some box somewhere, or worse, destroyed. The first PR movie has a pretty good standing on /m/, but whenever someone brings up PR in a /m/ threads, its more about how /m/ feels the second movie was total garbage and destroyed the franchise. I dont have hate for it, not as good as the first.
>>22833786Very cool anon.
>>22834264>/m/ feels the second movie was total garbage and destroyed the franchiseI mean that first movie was like a godsend to not just us here but moviegoers as well. It just had bad marketing and was right next to an Adam Sandler comedy (and those ponzi schemes guarantee money somehow)
>>22834399tbf the same thing happened to Titanfall 2 as well. The /m/echa curse is indeed a real phenomena, and it plagues everything it touches, it's why I know the Gundam film with be an absolute flop, and I don't even need to see any footage to know that!
That's really neat, thanks for sharing.
>>22833817ngl the first thing I thought this was when I saw the picture was an EVA helmet.
>>22834025Uh yeah, sorry was at work. I'll post them in a bit.
Okay, as promised, here are my 08th MS Team cels. It's a mix of old and new pictures so I'll call out the new ones. Just going in alphabetical order.
This is one where I have a fuckton of douga/sketches along with it.
Oh and when I post ones with BGs, they are the actual BGs used, not reproductions or printed pictures.
I think these last two are new. I didn't have many solo Aina before.
As you can see I solved my "Very few solo Aina cels" problem.
This one is funky, because the seller actually sold the cel, and then later the douga separately. I reunited them. Sadly the cel is a little warped.
These are two different cels but they're both fused with the paper and I'm really not sure if I can separate them.
Now these technically aren't cels, but there's a reason I'm posting them. These are design sheets that the animators used when drawing the characters. Basically instructions on "Draw this like this, don't forget that" ect.
But the main reason I'm posting it is because since that picture was taken, someone rude has gone and scribbled his name onto one of them. Whoever this Toshihiro Kawamoto is, I hope they're happy they defaced my drawing!Honestly though, he was shocked to see it and asked how I got it when I showed it to him.
This one isn't new, I posted this cel and background before, but what IS new is I reunited the dougas, design sketches, and background sketches with it.
>>22835667Ah fuck my life I didn't actually post the image. How embarrassing.
As I was saying, background sketches and dougas!
Here's another one where I had the cel, background, and foreground, but not the associated production materials. Reunited again.
A timing sheet as well.
>>22835670That's incredibly rude of him and I hope he thinks long and hard about what he did.
I love this shot.
I sadly do not have the associated Guntank cel.
This is a fun one, you can see here how the composition would look while filming.
And all the component pieces. Also bonus cat.
This is a new one. He got his sword back.
I like these two because they're matching, both a foreground, Gundam/Zaku, and a background. Also lit similarly.
Whoops forgot one.
>>22833786Very cool Anon! Very glad that your deciding to hold onto it just make sure to keep it safe. Personally I'd love to get a hold of the Cherno Alpha helmets
Here's another example of those early storyboards.
>>22835705These were used when planning the scenes.
06 MS Team having a bad day.
I love this one. It's so "Right during the climax of the shot".
This one too.
This is one I haven't posted here before.
And this one I haven't posted ever. Note the paint tone conversion chart notes for the light.
The picture doesn't do justice how detailed and beautiful the foot is in this one.
Who doesn't love the KBall?
This one I'm working on getting the background for, and possibly a previous and after shot.
A new one.
Another new one. Norris is hard to find.
This is a fun one. Did you know in the demo reel they made, it was originally a normal ass Ball fighting a Zaku at the start? This is from the demo reel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hdj3VUjFji4
These guys as well.
>Local man regrets his war crimes moments before vaporization.
Another new one. Episode 1 Sanders.
I'm sad this EZ8 is in such bad shape.
This one is not that exciting of a scene, but having the cels in order is neat.
Another new one.
Before I finish, there's these two of Yuri. I'm sad they're so warped.
This is the first cel I bought of 08th MS Team. I love the fact that it has a color guide for the overlapping glass.
This one is a beauty.
The final thing Ginias sees before being punched in the face by a Gundam.
And this one is also new.
I have a bunch of douga without cels, but I've probably spammed enough, so here's the cel I always end with in case it gets me banned. Spoilered for NSFW.Thanks for indulging my stupid bullshit.
Just posting to say those are some beautiful pieces anon. Thanks for sharing.
This is incredible, you should archive these cels somewhere online.Seeing all these familiar frames made me nostalgic.
>>22835744Man, I can hear that.>>22835753Same.Cool stuff, anon. Glad you posted them.
OP probably left, but it would be pretty sick for this stuff to be in a museum exclusively for mecha shit or like someone starts a collectors community for /m/.
>>22835667Where were you that you could get Kawamoto's autograph? Animation side guys rarely get the con invites like the directors and voice actors do.
>>22836843Anime Expo in 2023.
>>22836393I'm still here. I don't have the money for anything like that though.
>>22833786I hope you got a good deal. You own a piece of history now.
>>22833786Holy shit this is sick
What is Pacific Rim?
>>22833786Legitimately awesome OP
>>22840418Guillmero Del Toro's 200 million dollar passion project and it NEVER EVER got a sequel, nor should you even try looking for one.
>>22833791Do you know what kind of liquid goes inside? It was gold colored in the movie
>>22842972The gold coloring was just the leds inside the helmet, which OP showed us already. I assume the liquid was probably some kind of baby oil formula since it's dirt cheap and readily available anywhere.
>>22842972Some kind of liquid. I don't know what it was. It's been long gone for a while.
>>22843590And no, it was gold colored, because it left behind some gold sparkly shit.
that's nice anonman it's a shame what they did to this franchise in the second movieyou could feel the potential get siphoned off the window
>>22844756Del Toro needs to comeback and save the franchise by directing a great 3rd movie in the spirit of the first one.
>>22833786https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1816974609637417112sub human the White cockroach's all go to hell die
>>22844786>Pacific Rim: ZERO>prequel showing first appearance of kaiju>kaiju stomp military, desperate UN sends their guys to crusty apartment and ask crazy scientist to help>first jaegers are built and wreck the kaiju>film ends with UN ordering more jaegers>post credits scene with gipsy danger under construction
>>22844786Del Taco is a fucking hack.
>>22844815I'm pretty sure they were capable of killing kaiju, it's just that their blood was super toxic or something so they made jaegers to kill them with blunt force and prevent ecological disasters
>>22844819and yet he made pacific rim
>>22844831The first kaiju kill required a mass conventional dump and 3 nukes across a week. So sorta right, to attempt to reduce collateral damage.
>>22844889There were several before the jaeger program got underway, so that seems to have been more a question of ineffective tactics rather than ineffective weapons.
>>22844892If 3 nukes couldn't stop the earliest and weakest Kaiju's, then it's not a question of tactics. It's a question of weapons. The Kaiju's were resistant to nukes and required raw blunt force trauma to put them down. Smashing their skulls and brains.
>>22845123It's a question of tactics if you're using your weapons on a non-vulnerable part and not shoving a nuke literally down its throat. They only talk about the first kaiju as being so destructive, implying the others were stopped more easily, so they found something that worked better and the jaegers weren't yet in play. Either they had new weapons that nobody mentions (not impossible) or they figured out that a thousand siege mortar rounds to the face does a pretty good job of smashing the skull and brain with blunt force trauma. It's just that the jaegers were more effective and could at least reduce the effect of kaiju blue.
>>22845145You are forgetting that the Kaijus are artificially grown and made. Each new Kaiju is an improvement over the last one. The aliens who made the Kaiju were learning. And the aliens were making bigger, stronger, and tougher Kaiju with each new version. They started to outpace humanity's technology. Humanity was going bankrupt trying to fight the Kaijus and the Jaegers couldn't keep up.
>>22844815I had this idea for a Pacific Rim tv show with the budget of Game of Thrones focusing on the first few kaijuu that breached before jaegers, the jaeger program being developed, and the first deployment and kaijuu kill of each MK1 jaeger.>>22844831>>22844889>>22844892>>22845123>>22845145>>22845175Trespasser was probably a category 3 since its size is close to knifehead. My theory is that they sent a category 3 first since they didn't know what the response would be and the kaijuu gradually got smaller all the way to category 1, since they might be less costly to make and they can cause a lot of destruction before they get taken down by the military. Romeo Blue's first kaijuu kill was Hardship, which was actually small enough to jump on Romeo Blue. And Romeo was on the shorter end of the jaegers. After Trespasser the next two kaijuu that were nuked only needed one, however the next kaijuu, Scissure, they thought only needed one had to be nuked again. The second time it was nuked, Scissure was too close to the city they were trying to protect so half of it got destroyed in the blast. So it looks like the precursors were making the kaijuu more resistant to nukes which is probably why the jaeger program was given the go ahead.
>>22844756>>22844786>>22844819>>22844833So the thing that worries me about Del Toro doing any more, and don't get me wrong, I love Del Toro, is that the idea that Newt was evil came from him. Also the aliens are us from the far future... some of his ideas aren't good.
>>22845521>is that the idea that Newt was evil came from himWell considering the first film established that drifting is a two way street, the idea that the precursors could wreak havoc on his feeble mind wouldn't out of the question. The problem lies firmly in its awful execution, but yeah the precursors being time travelers is fucking stupid tho.
>>22845185>Each arc covers each nations' attempts to counter the kaiju, and then their first jaeger models>Depending on their economic and political structure, countries have corporations fighting to push their jaeger models or state control over design and production>Pilots of each country test out different jaegers with unique weapons, each varying in design doctrine and other priorities>Corporate or government fuckery gets some pilots killedI'd watch it.
>>22833786nice 3D print cosplay. faggot
>>22847910It's not but okay. God I wish my 3d printed cosplay parts looked this good.
>>22847910There is absolutely no way thars 3D printed. Thats way too good and too detailed. And it it has way too much custom work done with the pumps. It's real. Also it has a certificate of authenticity.
Bump, this thread is to good to let die. Not now, when there's so many slide threads.
>>22833812well. Thank you for your autism. we appreciate it. please take good care of it until its time to part
>>22853174I know it probably belongs in a museum, but he should totally sell it to me. Of course, I'd need a an insanely high-paying job for that, lol!
>>22848694>>22848721You people are retards if you fall for obvious bait this easily, cmon you guys!
>>22845185Is that real Pacific Rim lore or your fan fiction?
>>22865185Nope, these are all sourced from the movies, official books, and comics.>https://pacificrim.fandom.com/wiki/Brawler_Yukon>https://pacificrim.fandom.com/wiki/Romeo_Blue>https://pacificrim.fandom.com/wiki/Trespasser>https://pacificrim.fandom.com/wiki/Hardship>https://pacificrim.fandom.com/wiki/Scissure
It's from the second movie, which was mostly bad but I still really like this kit. The manual it came with looks really nice too.>>22833786Thanks for sharing, the helmet looks cool as hell
>>22865860>that helmet>those skinny hipsyuck, keep these bad opinions to yourself!
>>22865870Oh I totally prefer Gipsy Danger, but the action figures sucked and this was the only gunpla kit. It's an abstract and bittersweet kind of suffering, but at least I have a cool robot I can play with.
>>22865870Helmet's not bad. Hips are rather appropriately kind of ass, though.
>>22865934Nah, it's worse than the OG by a landslide. Way too narrow and angular with far too much overcomplicated greebling around the jawline for no good reason. Looks more like the Praetor suit from Doom 2016 than a proper Jager, even Striker Eureka doesn't look like that. Also proportionally his shoulders are way too big compared to the skinny head, so it makes Gipsy look like a fucking manlet when it's supposed to be this imposing metal hulk the size of a skyscraper.
>>22865970Oh, don't get me wrong. I prefer the original helmet; just don't think this one's garbage. Maybe my standards have been worn down.
>>22865990Avenger would be good if it was simplified and had better proportion. That, and not being attached to a shitty movie helps, so Gipsy Avenger's mediocre design was the least of Uprising's problems.
