The Evolution Toys Tekkaman Blaster Blade & Tekkaman Rapier two pack have finally been released!

Originally put up for pre-order August 2022... and I have received an e-mail every single month for 2 years, saying the release date has pushed back a month... Instead of the company delaying it officially. But I wanted them, so I never cancelled it, hoping eventually it would happen.

Granted, the Evolution Toys figures are not great. They are small, and pretty low quality... But they teased figures of characters we've never gotten figures of before, and actually released one (Tekkaman Dagger)... So I have been collecting the set.

Yes. But I would also take it with some grain of salt. The mics in question where probably older and have seen a lot of use through the studio life. So I don't imagine they were in tip top condition. Electronics wear. It's still a cool story.

Tekkaman Blade had very strong characterization for an early 90s show, one of the things I liked most about it. Yeah, Lance and Dagger never got much, but Levin, Noal, and especially Balzac developed much more over the course of the series than I thought they would the first time I watched it.

You know...I respect the 1990s version Teknoman here.

The American writers just said, "This is too weird. We're not dealing with this. Nope. This character is now officially a woman. Wish granted. Moving on!"

They cut through all the BS and just made the show more streamlined.

I still don't understand why the fuck they removed the episode with Goddart reminiscing about Shiya's and Takaya's rivalry. Also on a side note, Japan seems to be obsessed with 'Air on the G String' and constantly uses it in anime.

Omega/Darkon did not create either Blaster Blade or Evil. Blade went in a Radam plant crystal and powered up. Omega forbade Evil from powering up because Omega knew that even though Blaster form is more powerful, it burns through their bodies faster, and Omega did not want to let Evil die. Sword was the one who helped Evil to power up, so that Evil could defeat Blade before Blade could defeat Omega.

I think they should reanimate Tekkaman Blade but use 3D CGI so we can get get cool animation. We already saw that it's possible with the Seed movie.
>>
>>22889819
First off, anything in 3D CGI would be terrible, much less Tekkaman.

Second off, no need to retread with Blade. The Radam are an interdimensional threat. Have an alt universe Tekkaman series. Maybe throw in an arc with Blade appearing to help out, but focus on new characters. Could even make it more interesting by having the Blade that shows up be the Manga version, since he disappears after voltekka-ing the Radam Black Hole.
>>
>>22889929
>Second off, no need to retread with Blade
Yes there's a need. Blade is an awesome show. People need to see it. It's been 30 years and at least 2 to 3 generations of kids have grown up never seeing Blade. Also tons of anime are getting remade these days like Legend of Galactic Heroes, Gundam, Ranma 1/2, etc. It's the age of remaking old anime with high quality animation.

I will answer this in Tekkaman Blade term, hope you can catch up.
"Blaster Tekkaman" was never a recommendation amongs the Radam Tekkaman. Tekkaman Omega actually wanted Evil to not dying from the process, to the point of keeping him in prison until he changed his mind. Tekkaman Sword secretly freed him and gave him guide to become a Blaster Tekkaman. It is a legitimately powerful form but with a big price to pay and Omega is obviously just another regular Radam Tekkaman with slightly stronger offensive capability.

>Blade is an awesome show. People need to see it. It's been 30 years and at least 2 to 3 generations of kids have grown up never seeing Blade.
It's not lost media, there are a couple of youtube channels with the whole series available. While I agree Blade should be seen by more people, part of It's charm is the jank of the series. They obviously didn't have a huge budget but they made something special out of it.
>Also tons of anime are getting remade these days like Legend of Galactic Heroes, Gundam, Ranma 1/2, etc. It's the age of remaking old anime with high quality animation.
That's a terrible take, as terrible as all the safe retreads done nowadays because companies don't want to make something good, they just want to make something recognizable and safe to make easy money.

If you want something with good animation, watch Tekkaman Blade 2- then complain how it sucks compared to Blade like everyone else. Or watch Twin Blood over and over.

I would love a new Tekkaman series, but Blade deserves to be left alone, tended by Aki.
>>

>I think they should reanimate Tekkaman Blade but use 3D CGI so we can get get cool animation. We already saw that it's possible with the Seed movie.

Yeah, Missing Link is entirely a mess... But it brought D-Boy back to sanity... So in the end, it did its job. Just very poorly.

And sadly Tekkaman Blade 2 is based on said mess... But generally would have been fine if it wasn't for Yumi. The rest of the characters have decent backgrounds and motivations... But Yumi is just a mess of character. When she is not the focus, it's almost instantly a better series.

What is with chest lasers in mecha? what is the symbolism/purpose to them as opposed to just a hand laser? Show that the weapon is more of a slow firing ultimate one?
>>
>>22895582
I wish Dead End had more porn. He's hot.
>>
>>22896245
>what is the symbolism/purpose to them as opposed to just a hand laser?

Attacking with the hand is seen as more common or "basic" in anime. If this were a video game, then it would be a basic attack. Sometimes you can unleash a powered up punch but it's often not considered a finishing move.

Sometimes using the hand is often seen as "insulting". An anime enemy may not think of the hero as "worthy" of using his main weapon (sword, axe, big gun, whatever). So the enemy will just use his hands to signify it as an "insult". Like an equivalent of slapping or taunting someone.

For example:
>You are not worthy of me drawing my ultimate weapon. So I'm gonna beat you down with my bare hands to show you just how much above you I really am.

Firing from the chest usually symbolizes a stronger ultimate attack with significantly more power since it's coming from the "chest/heart area". A place that houses your vital organs, or important mecha parts such as the cockpit or generators or other vital mecha parts. The idea is that you are draining your vital energy (closest to your heart) to unleash such a powerful attack.

Sometimes mecha stories flip this trope on its head to show how powerful a new character is. A hero/enemy can unleash a massive chest beam. Only for the new character to withstand the attack without much or no damage all. Then the new character laughs or charges forth to beat down the person who unleashed the beam. This shows that even a previously powerful ultimate chest attack is no longer enough against new characters.

In the case of some bio-mecha like Guyver or Kamen Rider, unleashing a chest attack often involves opening up the chest armor to reveal the hidden Bio-cannon. Which then charges up and fires. However during the charging up process, this leaves the hero "vulnerable" for several moments as the chest armor is open and the vitals are exposed. Some enemies can react fast enough and attack the exposed inner vitals for big damage.

Blade was originally intended to have Voltekka be a chest blaster. You can see concept art with the yellow arrows on Blade's chest shooting out arrows. However, according to an interview, another popular character (which I'm guessing was Guyver) also had a chest blaster. It was a last minute change but since the shoulder armor was already big, they were inspired to move the Voltekka there.

Another tidbit I thought was cool was that Evil was always supposed to have a tail in his Tekkaman form. But they were told animating that would be too much, so Evil's design was changed. When the Blade's Blaster form was introduced, they were told they could do the tail for Evil's Blaster form since it would be for a single episode.
>>

>they could do the tail for Evil's Blaster form since it would be for a single episode.

I really like stories like this. It shows us that limitations inspire creativity. A tail just for Evil Blaster is better imo.

If Tekkaman Blade were made today, most studios would just CGI everything without limits and never question if a design is good or not. Why bother? Their computers can animate everything. Like Hathaway's Flash and their monstrously weird looking big Gundams.
>>
>>22898396

Is it really true that Red Line was the last hand drawn anime ever made?
>>
>>22898433
>Is it really true that Red Line was the last hand drawn anime ever made?
Red Line was *digitally* hand drawn (using a digital tablet). They didn't use old school physical cels like Disney movies from the 1950s to 1990s.

But Every single frame of Red Line was hand drawn. Absolutely zero "in-between frames" (animation frames that are lower quality placed between high quality key frames. Usually animated by cheap outsourced animation studios).

Every single Redline frame is a key frame. Every single frame is hand crafted. Every single frame is basically HD wallpaper quality.

It was...an exercise in madness. Digital animation was supposed to make things easier and faster. But because they did every single frame by hand with key frame quality...it took the staff over SEVEN years to animate the movie. Instead of the typical 2 to 3 years with making modern animation movies.

CGI works really well on things that aren't humans in anime. It's looks great on mecha and ships. So it would work great on Tekkaman's mecha armor.

I was talking about Gundam Requiem For Vengeance having really low resolution on some of their textures at times and possibly not understanding how LoD settings work on their renderer. Whether this is due to incompetence or insufficient resources is an open question, but the point is that it's not a magic solution like a lot of people (including executives) seem to think it is.

Oh I haven't watched Requiem. I don't intend to either. The trailer didn't look good. It has some weird 08th MS Team wannabe vibes.

Of course it does. So do many Kamen Rider designs (see all the sick SIC redesigns). That doesn't negate it being cool that they did make a toku-like suit for Blade. Nor that Blade does a lot of similar things to Kamen Rider. But that's probably more because Kamen Rider is the hero archetype of Japan. It's like how Superman gets copied so often.

Obviously Blade and Evil's rivalry is more personal meanwhile Shadowmoon and Black is like a tragic happened due to circumstance. However, the structure of the storyline is similar, while Shinya obvious got mind controled by Radam, it was a corrupted inferiority complex that he already had.

>Oh and much MUCH better sound effects
This is also true, especially for the UPN version, check out the sounds that sol-tekkaman suit makes during combat, around 3:36, and compare it with the original version.

>The dub is amazing, Rapier's death is much better, the music is miles better, there's no trannie/faggot nonsense with maggie. Oh and much MUCH better sound effects, especially for the Voltekka/Teknobolt and whenever Teknomen activate their eye, cock hard everytime. The jap version is still great, but for rewatching, I go with the dub.
>Some of my favs:
>"They knew that I was the strongest lifeform aboard the argos, that I would let nothing stop me. NOTHING!"
>"Do you not posses enough intelligence to see that a thing must be done before I command it!?"
>"I don't hate him, I love him, I love him so much I want to be him, I want to be me and him both."

100% agree.

American dub cut out all the nonsense and fluff that the Japanese love doing. They also enhanced the audio.

There was some interviews with Japanese audio artists who said that Japanese people don't like certain battle noises and prefer softer hits. The the audio for the Voice actors takes priority on volume levels. That's why their grunts and screw are louder than the battle. For the most part, the Japanese want a "sterilized" idealized audio version of real life fights and battles.

Meanwhile the Americans prefer harder hitting realistic noises, more sound effects per battle, and they want more realistic audio levels where battle noises aren't quiet. Sometimes the battle is louder than the dialog. Even the audio effects themselves are more realistic. Like actual jet engine noises for thrusters, metal clashing noises for swords, and lots of audio layers to make sure the scene is FULL of audio. No quiet parts like Japan does.

It's such a shame that modern dubbing anime is obsessed with "authenticity" where they just copy paste whatever Japan does. Modern dubbers just do exactly what Japan does with zero innovation or localizing.

Don't even get me started on Bleach and the say they make their voice actors say the literal Japanese name for attacks. Not even any subtitles either.

No offense but the Japanese always have weird ass writing.

The Americans always have to change the writing and other things to make it work better.

It's why Teknoman was more popular than Tekkaman.

It's why Power Rangers was more popular than Super Sentai.

It's why Beetleborgs was more popular than Junkofighter (or whatever it's called). Beetleborgs sold very well in the West.

The whole man wanting to be a woman thing in Tekkaman added nothing to the story. I can see why they cut it out of the Western release of Teknomwn. The story doesn't change at all even with the cuts.

What's the issue? Robotech was popular in the West, and made money. Nothing you said proves me wrong.

There are plenty of issues to be had with stapling 3 completely anime series to each other like Frankenstein’s Monster in an attempt to meet the episode quota.
>>
>>22939179
That has nothing to do with Western popularity of Robotech. They liked it.

Power Rangers did the same thing and no one cared.
