Just finished watching this, what a rideAlso VOTOMS thread I guess
>>22902657Definitely Kummen. It was like one long AT battle which I felt was a little lacking in the UoodoAnd I think overall Rochina was my favorite character with all his smugness and scheming
Not the OP but are any of the OVAs or spin offs worth watching?
>>22902682None of them.
>>22902655I wasn't expecting that ending, also I realized many other series took inspiration from it, like Wisemon for Digimon being based on Wisemon.
>>22902683>>22902685
so, whats left too be discussed. we've had a billion trillion threads about this anime and they always fall into the same handfull of conversational topics. is there anything new here?
>>22902682most of them are alrightpick up mellowlink if you're tired of chirico and don't mind another old animepick up case; irvine if you're tired of chirico and really like code geassif you don't fall into either of those categories you're kinda fucked cause the other stuff is either untranslated or festooned with too much chirico
>>22903152All Votoms anime are translated since 2011. OP don't listen to /m/orons, Votoms OVA are masterpieces except for Phantom Arc.
>>22903150We can discuss about why AT is so fucking weak
>>22903184they're disposable and powered by blue sci-fi gasoline
>>22903184>Didn't pay attentionRinse and repeat.
>>22903150>is there anything new here?Yeah, you.
>>22903184>Good optics with wide angle, zoom, and thermal>Decent mobility with at least 52 km/h at full combat load and 83 km/h when empty.>Lots of firepower with 30mm cannon as standard and plenty of mounts for optional weapons. They're basically made for skirmishing at long range. Spot the enemy before they spot you, hit them hard, and then pull back before they counter attack. Of course, Scopedogs never get used like that so they die in droves.
>>22902655Patiently waiting for the bandai expansion packs so I can make Brutishdog...
>>22902682The prequels and Mellowlink. Don't watch any of the sequel OVAs unless you hate yourself.
Sucked to see Chirico getting cucked and I was hoping for a little more characterization of his red shoulder buddies but I thought The Last Red Shoulder was pretty good
I like the Beetle. It is a cool AT
I didnt like the final arc too much. I thought it was stupid and anticlimactic that Chirico was just pretending the whole time
>>22906127I mean it was very, very, VERY obvious. What, you thought he was just gonna go along with the guy who literally made him into a cursed being who's entire existence has been endless suffering? Actually I thought it was great how far they took the "bluff".
>>22905529for me its Turtles
>>22906734I thought it was enjoyable to see him put on the mask of an "ubermensch" while enduring what must've been immensely emotional painful to him in seemingly betraying his friends. Stuff like shooting at Fiana, etc.Personally I just really like when Takahashi goes cosmic. He manages to do it in a way that feels like a fever dream while still keeping the tension of the plot.
>>22905529I love ATs
>>22906708>What, you thought he was just gonna go along with the guy who literally made him into a cursed being who's entire existence has been endless suffering?Possibly, yeah. He'd seemed pretty checked out after the ship and the only time he was sentimental was when Fyana was involved. Not overly likely, but not impossible.
>>22904182What?
>>22903184
>>22903583Really? I heard the opposite that the prequel OVAs are the ones to avoid
>>22902657The sounds of the motors speeding up and slowing down, never grew tired of that.
>>22902655Interesting.
>>22907741I don't know, for some reason I thought the last red shoulder was going to be from the perspective of Murza so it was a surprise how fast they all died. And then you know wiseman made Chiricho wake up at just the moment to see Fyana kissing the guy who just tried to kill him
>>22903150Do you think the gay twins ever experimented with each other or explored others bodies?
>>22908107I generally enjoyed all the prequels. They flesh out Chirico's character more, and I thought Pailsen Files was really entertaining despite its shitty CGI animation. I don't recommend the sequels mainly because they ruin a perfect ending for no real reason, and they introduce dumb retcons to even justify their existence. If you absolutely have to watch the sequels though, just watch everything except Phantom Arc. Phantom Arc is god awful, and Alone Again is basically what Phantom Arc should of been anyway.
Are there any good Votoms fan stories?I find the setting fantastic.
>>22902675
>>22902682You must watch Mellowlink.You must!
>>22911791Alright, I'll do it.
>>22916884It has some great ATs.
Hey, I know Votoms has had more than a few toy lines in recent years. Does one stand out from the crowd? Any come with figures?
>>22918925Bandai just came out with some in the bandai spirits hi metal R line. Threezero also just started dropping some pretty good figures and there was a small line called 35max that died a while back but the figures are pretty good
>>22911684You're asking if fan fiction is good or not.
>>22903328So they're like Technicals?
Following release order (and avoiding the sequels like >>22903583 recommends) Should I watch Mellowlink or Palsen Files next? Just finished up origin of ambition
>>22920119You're on /m/, so we all know you hate yourself. Just watch them. They do provide the only wrinkle to release order ever. Watch Alone Again before Phantom Arc. The jump between Shinning Heresy and Phantom Arc was so much they had to make Alone Again to spackle over the holes later. So just watch it between the two.
>>22919190Pretty much.
>>22903328To be fair we rarely see the big battles the war was known for. We see weird post war dipshit usage.
>>22919190
>>22919190Uh...yeah. I guess they're basically Technicals if you ignore the whole "Made for Combat" bit. >>22920159We do see Scopedogs being used in the prequels in ways you really couldn't use any tank or helicopter.
>>22903184>can be taken out by some dude on foot with an anti tank rifle.>implying.
>>22903184>why is cannon fodder weak
>>22921468That's really not helping you case. What kinda giant robot takes multiple shots to kill an unmoving, unarmored human?
>>22925064Decepticons?
>>22921468Man I don't remember Mellowlink being anywhere near as graphic, the only thing I remember was the weak honky tonk jazz score and the train episode.
What modifications or additions would you make to a scopedog?
>>22921468It's a shame that even with a different director the action was still "action movie stand and spray your bullet hose" style.
>>22905529
>>22926401Racist graffiti.
These 2 were so fun.
>>22929612Beetle my beloved
>>22903184Yeah, I always found it weird how in a setting where people have mastered interstellar travel they're using things that aren't that much more advanced than modern military vehicles. Is it like Battletech where all the major powers have agreements on how powerful weapons can be because they got tired of all their planets getting blown up?
>>22921468I cannot think of a single tactical reason why getting out of the trench was a good idea.
>>22932760Please write the whole show for us.

Still watching Votoms, but what are the three lenses for the Scopedog? I get the main green one is the zoom in/out scope
>>22983721It's not really clear. that they're distinct. MAHQ mentions that the lenses are linked directly to the pilot's goggles but doesn't mention any differentiation between the three.
Also, are the recap episodes skippable? I don't know why each recap ep summarizes things from two arcs ago. I watched the first one or two, but not the one that was right before fucking Spaceship Hell>>22983803Really. I would have sworn they had some clear purpose written in some infobook. I know there were red visuals at some point. Felt kind of silly for not knowing, and now it's bothering me when I have a model kit of it sitting next to me.
>>22983803Found this, I don't know how official or accurate it is, and I don't->zoom lens AND a precision lens>third one's unknownHelp
>>22983721Big one is standardRed is precisionSmallest one is wide
>>22984029Thank you, I was thrown off since the big one was shown to adjust itself, while I didn't really see that for red, and the smallest one was rarely used so far. I'm not really sure what a wide lens is or does though, you can see more of your surroundings/peripherals at once, just a lens that's good to check on now and then?
>>22984029That's very interesting. I would have figured at least one of them would be night vision.
At the end of dead world sunsa cherry coke says he wasn't there when that woman's family was killed. But in origin of ambition he is clearly part of the offensive on the world. What gives?
>>22985058There were multiple offensives on Sunsa going over several years
I wish the Erdspinne had some variants.
>>22983813>Also, are the recap episodes skippable?Yes
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=px6Gx_6U6QUWhat would you do if you got a Scopedog tomorrow?
>>22994383jack off in it
>>22994383I don't think I would do it.
>>22992921Alright, thank you. Finishing up the third arc, then it's the recap and the last arc.
>>22999653You took a while to get through it, huh? I get it, Sunsa is pretty slow, worst part of the show for me. They got rid of Ypsilon too early
>>22999695I thought I was going rather fast for a 52-episode show, but I've been busty now and then. Sunsa was pretty slow but not as dreary and hellish as I was led to believe.>They got rid of Ypsilon too earlyI was already told he dies by the end of this arc or the start of the next one, usually I'd be a bit angry about spoilers but - unless he suddenly becomes sympathetic - I really don't mind losing Ypsilon. His AT is cool though, reminds me of the fearsome Gouf.I know he has a backstory OVA I was probably supposed to watch mid-arc, but I was honestly just lazy to torrent, and didn't have enough motivation to do that for Ypsilon. I guess I may as well finish the show and go through the OVAs in production order.
>>22999708>bustykek>His AT is cool though, reminds me of the fearsome Gouf.Clearly the showrunners thought the same, as the final AT Chirico uses in the show (the Rabidlydog) is based on Ypsilon's AT. You don't see it getting as much attention as the standard Scopedog though. Even SRW only used it once>I guess I may as well finish the show and go through the OVAs in production order.Well there's certainly no need to go through all of them, especially not if you don't care about some characters. I'd say the only ones that feel like a must-watch are Roots of Ambition, Mellowlink and Case;Irvine. I have mixed feelings on Shining Heresy but I think it's interesting enough to warrant a watch as well. The rest of them just kind of repeat shit you've already seen, are Chirico misery porn, or just show you a oneoff battle that doesn't have anything interesting going on
>>22999737I meant busy!I've never seen the Rabidlydog before, I thought Chirico sticks to the standard Scopedog a lotAnd I'm going to watch all of them because I like the characters and the world, maybe even a side-story with bum rando protags might be interesting.
>>22999744well, be aware that the general consensus is that the OVAs that are direct sequels to the show are all pretty bad. I generally agree with that sentiment, though Shining Heresy is one of them and as I said, I think it does have some good parts. But yeah, Alone Again is stupid apart from the bit about Chirico reuniting with his friends and Phantom Arc is just an awful rehash of the entire show featuring more Chirico suffering than ever before. The OVAs that aren't about Chirico actually are better. Finder is the worst one and even it's not terrible, just kinda mediocre and out of place for the world. Feels like they wanted to do a standard shounen story in the VOTOMS universe for some reason
>>22999759Shining Heresy isn't as bad as people here say it is but there were obviously problems during its production, Alone Again wasn't great but it wasn't awful either, Most of Phantom Arc was shit with some good moments here and there, would have been better if it relied far less on nostalgia.I haven't finished reading Child of God yet but it seems far better than Phantom Arc at the very least from what I've read if a little slow.
Votoms and its side material is the definition of BAD. the latter especially is only for people who want free 3/10 scores on their profiles.watch the actually good Takahashi show, Layzner. not this circlejerked mediocrity.
>>22932405>cardboard characters>funyou might enjoy Blue Gender and Galient too then. none of their characters have an ounce of depth or personality either.
>>22999737Big Battle is great what are you talking about?
>>23001852I don't know what's great about it. To me it was so forgettable the only thing I can remember about it is that the bad guy had a big landship or something
Merry Christmas.
>>23007260You too anon.
>>22903150my take on Votoms fans is that they are a group who watch anime because of their trouble interpreting social behavior. Over-exaggerated emotional responses are common for anime characters to have, which Votoms fans are drawn to due to their developmental disorders (possibly autism), as without this expositional spoonfeeding they would likely become confused over simple character interactions; this phenomena is then further highlighted by their hyper-interest in a genre concerning machines and robots, which they relate to more due to their lack of humanity and uber-technical nature.Regarding Votoms itself, look at its main character, Chirico.Chirico barely emotes which subliminally makes the Ryosuke fan feel at ease due to his own similar emotional disability (again, same reason why they like mecha in the first place). Chirico’s monotone facial expression is of great benefit to the Votoms fan due to their regular struggle with reading faces. Past Chirico, the villains in Votoms are two-dimensionally evil and Chirico's sidekicks are the aforementioned anime histrionics which comforts the autist, allowing Chirico to be the Votoms fan’s self-insert in an easy-to-comprehend world.Meanwhile, Tomino animes terrify the Votoms fan because of their subtle and spontaneous nature, which makes the autist ask “what the fuck is going on?” when they often say the same thing to themselves about real life.Do not fail to see that much of /m/ is as low-functioning as /mlp/ or /vp/, it's just they're quieter in their madness due to their introversion, hence why they feel kinship to the quiet buzz of machines yet have trouble understanding Tomino's scripts that 10-year-old Japanese kids can understand easily. Ironic, Tomino's shows are about "understanding", yet many grown adult men can barely understand them.
>>23012844This pasta is way past its sell by date.
>>23001852I've never understood why Big Battle is so forgotten, it's an excellent straight forward action OVA. I chalk this up to most people simply not paying attention to what they watch.
The ending wasn't as insane of a curveball as I expected, but I still need to think hard about what happened.>>22903150I just finished the show, I'm ready for those topics!>>22999759It's time for the OVAs too, I guess.
>>23012907What is a sale by date lmao, I suppose you're saying it's still good per se, which it is
>>23012909My guess is that Big Battle feels more like an extended episode and also has little metaplot relevence. Its not going into Chiricos backstory or focusing on an original character. It's kinda just straightforward action. At least Radaa Niva is a cool antagonist.
I want to watch the OVAs in production order, but I also really want to skip to Shining Heresy and meet Chirico again. Is it a horrible experience to skip the other OVAs until I finish the sequels? Rewarding to delay the reunion and keep looking forward to it, even?Although I suppose the only one that might take some time is Mellowlink which afaik isn't even really related, but I don't want to abandon the other protags without giving them a chance.
>>23023772After the main series I watched it mostly chronological but production order is alright too.
>>23023509If it has great action people aren't really posting webms of it either>>23023772I mean, Mellowlink feels very similar as a character to Chirico and he visits many of the same locations (IIRC the OVA opens during a Battling tournament) so you don't have to make much of an adjustment. Overall I would say Mellowlink is the best VOTOMS OVA because there's not much else like it in /m/ anime. The whole point of it is that Mellowlink is intentionally orchestrating situations where his opponents are piloting ATs and he isn't because he wants to kill them on foot as a form of ironic revenge. The sequels have their moments but they just have nothing on the incredibly creative action you're gonna see watching Mellowlink. So yeah, I'd say it's worth it.
>>23023479Holy ESL.
>>23023509NOだ!NOだ、NOだ、NOだ!!!
>>23023851>>23023897I'll look forward to Mellowlink, probably go by production order. Big Battle was alright. It was nice to see something take place before the show's ending. Everyone's made up and friends, but you also see them working together with no hard feelings, a bit more adventure before the end. Also Rochina was still there too and still seething, so that's fun, I warmed up to him in the later arcs. The OVA felt like a very long episode or a multi-parter. Nothing was uniquely amazing, but the action was just about as good as the show, which is to say above-average, pausing and going over some frames to see the Scopedog's mechanics, or seeing who hit what with what. I think I was supposed to see one of the Red Shoulder OVAs first though.
>>23023897>If it has great action people aren't really posting webms of it eitherWell I guess thats the other part. It does have good action but doesn't go beyond what the TV show was doing. There's no webm of Scopedogs fighting Fatties and honing on on the hand of an exploding one like the one webm. And a lot of the action revoled around this fuckhuge landship thing. It really is basically a missing two parter episode. Its good for what it is but doesn't stand out either.
>>22990937Me too.
https://kitsunekko.net/dirlist.php?dir=subtitles%2Fjapanese%2FSoukou+Kihei+VOTOMS%2FI want to watch VOTOMS with Japanese subtitles. However, I've tried both the old 480p rip by [G P] and also one of the BD rips (even though it looks smudged to shit) and the subtitle files in the above link don't seem to align with the runtimes of either releases. Does anyone know which version I would need to download?
We need more Votoms models.
>>22990937I don't remember this one whatsoever.
>>23047231Brilliantly Shining Heresy. When the fuck are we getting a HD release of it? They definitely have the stuff.
Where can I even watch the series? I spent a good hour trying to find any site or streaming service that has it, even the blueray seems to be sold out.Best I found was the first episode on archive
