Is this game ass or have I lost my passion for /m/ games?
>>22908656The games just kind of exhausting. The campaign is a linear slog with every mission increasing the tonnage by 5-10 once you start getting Timberwolves or Warhawks theres very little nuance left to it other than building a long range gun line and sniping everything before it can get close enough to hurt you. They definitely could have been putting in missions with varying weight and objectives after the midpoint.
>>22908680That's what the sim pod is for, apparently. All the weird modifiers are thrown in there.
>>22908656The story is actually pretty good but the gameplay is meh
nobody tell him
>>22908656I remember being surprised that MW5 starred an actual character and not a mute self insert. That was back in vanilla though I haven't touched it in years
>>22909030(I) am distractingly handsome
>jannies instantly clean up woke proofs
>>22908656>Is this game assi dunno, lol
>>22908656A handsome cool looking guy? In a Western RPG? What year is this?
>>22908656Someone competent should make a new mechcommander. Or even a sequel to HBS battletech
>>22910955MechCommander is in some kind of licensing hell. Something to do with issues between Microsoft and Microprose/Hasbro(currently Atari I think?). Battletech 2 is not likely to happen because Paradox retained the rights after HBS left their umbrella. Paradox currently doesn't have any studio free to produce Battletech 2, and has said a few times they'd rather exploit i.p.'s they actually own, rather than dealing with keeping up with license negotiations with outsides like Microsoft. So Battletech 2 or another Battletech branded game is unlikely unless Paradox has a change of heart, or the rights revert back to Microsoft and get farmed out again. Really the only Mech i.p. we know can and might get a revival is MechAssault. There were some credible rumors that some kind of MechAssault title was in development internally at microsoft back in like 2019-2020, but that went dark almost immediately, and not even a fart mentioning it has popped up since then. So it's either shitcanned like the old 360 MA title, or it's due for an surprise announcement next year.
>>22910984Maybe we can have a new aerospace game instead
>>22910985Battletech Jump Ship Simulator. I wish to be a space trucker.
I riked it
>>22910985Partway through 5clans it dawned on me that, in the spirit of exaggerating things to fit the media they're made in, I found myself wanting an over the top Ace Combat pastiche of an Aerotech game. Something where, even if it made zero sense lorewise, there's shitzillions of targets to take out, dumbass superweapons left and right, and war crimes of a most melodramatic sort.Fuck it, it could be set during the Amaris Civil War, that would justify the scale and spectacle of it all along with the soap operatic tale of Kerensky's SLDF slowly taking back the Inner Sphere and becoming battlefield legends.
>>22911209They should actually be doing games set around the amaris civil war. Succession wars/arrival of clans/fedcom civil war has already been played out
>>22908656I'm enjoying it, but some of these missions are hard as shit. Even though I prefer the custom missions, I think I like Merc's meta-campaign better. Much prefer buying mechs rather than just unlocking them as you go. Also clan mechs are boring as shit and the batch you get are some of the most boring of the batch. Only really like the Vulture and Madcat.
>>22912215As a person who cannot get enough Warhammers in their life, I'm looking forward to forcing the Hellbringer into my roster as soon as possible.I mean seriously, it's just a Warhammer, the Clans invented their own Warhammer on their own time. I'm down for this fucker no matter what.
>>22914104Meant to reply to >>22913910
>>22914104It feels like a little baby compared to the warhammer. It's definitely one of the better ones though. You get to make a choice near the end of the game that I won't spoil, but I thought they might let you start using Inner Sphere mechs, bad sadly you're still stuck with the Shit Jaguar ones. Also very sad you don't get to fight on Tukayyid or participate in any big Jaguar losses and I have not seen a king crab yet and I am near the end of the game. I wanted the end of the game to be like the end of Halo Reach with your star being last standing against a horde of Comstar mechs.
>We will never see the Uziel in another MW gameI am truly saddened. I love how it looks, but there's nothing interesting about the period it's in.
>>22914122Can't imagine it looks baby when the Loki-P loadout is practically a carbon copy of the 6R 'Ham, flavored to Clan tech standards.
>>22914122Also very sad you don't get to fight on Tukayyid or participate in any big Jaguar losses and I have not seen a king crab yet and I am near the end of the game. I wanted the end of the game to be like the end of Halo Reach with your star being last standing against a horde of Comstar mechs.Guessing they're saving that for an expansion or another entry, since that part of the timeline is pretty prominent to the fanbase
>>22914313The end of the game is the battle of Luthien, the battle that gets the ball rolling on the Jaguars annihilation.
>>22914353Yep, seems like they're building up the hype for Bulldog and the rest(Also I forgot the quote arrow there. Fuck)
>>22914367I wonder how DLC will work. Since the game has 2 endings. Will they bother to stick with one over the other, or will we play as different characters?
>>22914369If they're going to continue the storyline, I'm hoping they continue the route you've chosen. Like which side you belong in the Great Refusal. If you went Warden, highly likely they'll attach you to one of the units that fought in the trial, kind of similar Peter's unit in 4. If you went the other way, well, I believe everyone here knows what already happened (that Reach scenario in that other post springs into mind)
>>22914369I hope we get other characters from different clans, I'd like to drunk drive a Kodiak.
>>22910521kek what game?
I've heard through an unmentionable grapevine that passing the runtime flag -disablesm6 might help with performance issues on steamdeck and comparable platforms.Hotfix 3 has been announced in the meantime.
>>22916407This game runs on Steamdeck? I'm surprised
>>22918326Well it "runs" on Legion Go at least.By which I mean PGI better scrape together some more optimizations and/or Lenovo really needs to get their act together with a graphics driver update rather than expecting us to bork our own devices trying to sideload the currentmost generic AMD drivers because Clans feels like a game that can run within the scope of the LeGo's hardware, but is struggling with a bunch of weird stuff that I kinda blame on how a lot of game engines feel like they're racing to break the 4K@60fps barrier by any means necessary.
>>22919251>I kinda blame on how a lot of game enginesI think it's more of a every other game uses Unreal Engine
>>22919557It's not unique to Unreal either, because it certainly feels like Capcom's been smoking something weird with what they've been doing to RE Engine lately.
>>22919711Shame, last game I played in that engine was DMC V and it ran great.
>>22908656MechWarrior single player games used to be great. These missions are just ass
>>22908656Is mechwarrior for everyone?
>>22920908If you like shitty ugly western trash yes
>>22914386Or an evacuate mission where survival is optional. So long as you finish the final objective, you can decide if your lance will go down fighting or leave and find a new path in the stars
>the omnipod system is so poorly explained in-game it tricks you into thinking you have to take configurations as a whole rather than being able to mix and match pods from different sets like what you should be able to do in terms of fluffSo I slapped some MGs on my Nova-Prime's torsos, I feel like I'm piloting a walking helicopter now. Feels good man.
>>22922120The U.I. in general is fucking abysmal. Even the excuse for consolization doesn't work because the u.i. in MW5 and even MWO would adapt to consoles just fine.
>>229224315 is definitely not like that because of consoles, that's for sure. If anything both Mercs and Clans show signs of how console and pad players are seen as a distant concern compared to keyboard warriors, the menus sure do make more sense with a mouse in hand but are utterly confounding with a gamepad.
>>22922451It may shock you, but that IS what them trying to make their u.i. console friendly looks like. Somehow they made it awful to navigate for everyone.
>>22922490Are you shitting me, 5mercs feels more console friendly than 5clans.
>>22908656A mix of both.
>>22922120I started out being livid because you can't remove jump jets, but there's actually a shitload of customizability once you start mixing things. Can turn anything into a missile boat and it's really neat that it actually changes the mech model based on the pod, even if the overall mech selection isn't as large as I'd really like.
>>22924354Part of the reason the mech customisation didn't really gel with me. I blame the Clans, not the game. Everything can be whatever you want essentially. I much prefer mechs with a strong identity and role.
>spheroid "assault" "mechs"
>>22924416That mission fucking sucks so hard. Took so many attempts. I had to cheese it with Gauss rifles from across the map. Also I did a little poo in my pants when I saw the word Highlander even though I was in Clan mechs. There are a few mechs in MW that do that to me.
>>22924419Get buried! For me though, Hunchbacks have always been the mech that gets me anxious. It's all fun and games until they hit you with that big gun.
>>22924419Are you playing on hard or something? On normal, I've beaten everything without much difficulty just running these laser boat mechs
>>22924673Yep that's one of the other ones. All fun and games shooting at mediums until one points an AC/20 at you.>>22924782Just Normal. I dunno, I don't think I've ever really played MW games right. Never been a fan of lasers, I like ballistic weapons. I do usually end up realising that just jamming as many medium lasers you can on something will beat anything creative you can think of.
>>22924850The game is really balanced around pinpoint damage weapons inherently being more effective since missiles and less accurate ballistics diffuse damage across at least the torsos. Unfortunately, this game doesn't have things like paired rotary ACs that can just bore damage into a cockpit before the enemy can fire more than one salvo.
>>22924874Yeah that's how I played Mercs. Just get a big mech where you can have the rotary UACs on either arm. Very satisfying.
>>22924877In MW4 Mercs, I used to use a Fafnir with four of them. Was so funny.
Holy fucking shit >get stuck on Security Protocols>after several retries and getting another flashlights and machineguns Nova on my Star, finally beat the mission >game crashes>give up for the day thinking I'd lost progress and have to try again>boot game back up and continue>game managed to register I completed the mission before crashing>for added bonus, the rewards pushed me far enough to make the Hellbringer availableWar crimes are back on the goddamn menu, boys.
>>22908656the game is mehthe story is full on anime tier because of the YA protagonist(s) which i dont mind, you get a bunch of cool lore with it.the gameplay boils down to horde mode enemies being flown and dropped in by dropships on planets you have full aerial superiority kekw, heat management really doesn't matter, mech controls are arcade like because the game and the entire menu is designed around a controller. my buddy liked that, i hated it, but i can't stress enough how terribly bad the menu design is.optimization is dogshit and dlss/fsr is not working correctly (yet?). there is also no depth to the mechs because things like stealth don't exist and all missions boil down to "use generic hint/scanning/witcher senses" tool to SCAN THINGS then kill a few things on timers or as waves and that's that.5/10, more fun as coop, bad as singleplayer
>>22924673I love running my LB-20-X Hunchie in MWO. I just slither around the outskirts of the brawl and gun for peoples stripped parts or run interference against light flankers and sandblast them.
>>22926610The only reason the scan function was included was to nostalgiabait MW2 oldfags who 'member pressing I to inspect. That's it.That's all it is. It's the newest iteration of the Inspect Target function, except it only works on defined objects. Would've preferred if the entire orders wheel was integrated into scan mode instead so it lived as a tactical view option.
>>22926610>the gameplay boils down to horde mode enemies being flown and dropped in by dropships on planets you have full aerial superiority kekwThis is almost definitely a response to MW5's release where they tried to emulate enemies already being there by just having them spawn where your camera wasn't pointed which means directly behind you. Leopards dropping them in was a compromise because the game runs like shit so they can't have them all in the map waiting for you to trigger their AI.I don't mind it, it's very gamey though so I could see why people don't like it.
>>22929001Speaking of AI activation, in 5mercs you can still see the remnants of idle brain CPU if you run arena missions that use sufficiently large mapsets. Past a certain range enemy mechs just maintain a holding pattern, or occasionally engage a fellow NPC if it's a valid target, but otherwise things really don't happen until you're arbitrarily close enough that they decide to start doing things. It makes a modicum sense on a technical level -why- that's the case given the way PGI built this generation of Mechwarrior games, but it's one of those things that utterly breaks suspension of disbelief any time you catch it happening. One of the AI improvement mods probably addresses this, I'm sure, but it's really funny to me how braindead the AI can be when it's waiting for you to show up.
>>22908656Smoke Jags are alright, but they missed an opportunity to bring back the greatest clanner of all.
>>22931009>Smoke JagsAre you drunk?
>>22931023Yes, and when I become sober, I will still think that the Jags are merely okay when compared to the much more fun Jade Falcons.
>>22931033The only good clans are the ones I know nothing about, because they always disappoint me when I look into them.
>>22931034That's because you don't know how to chose themhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WnJFQEHsSrU
>>22931034All you need to know is the Ghost Bears fucking love gridiron football.Clanner sportsball stories deserve more push in the lore.
For me? It's Clan Goku (sometimes also called Clan Wolf).
>>22931525Looks more like Clan Steiner-Davion-Steiner-Davion
>>22931009
>>22931511You forgot to mention the ceremonial fursuits.
Mechwarriors 6 fucking when? It's been how many decades since 5?
>>22933819It's been less than a month since the last MW game. Just chill.
>>229338192027 at the absolute earliest.
>>22933819When a new dev takes over. The number only changes when the dev changes.
if they continue the story from here, wouldn't they just have to remake mechwarrior 3?
>>22937155MW6 is guaranteed to be set during the ilClan era.
All I want is for someone to mod the new mechs into Mercenaries.
>>22937173Hasn't the community been essentially doing that by way of porting over the Clan mechs that have appeared in MWO to date?Pretty sure YAML +/- some other mods does all the necessary work to let you deal with Clan Invasion horseshit from the spheroid perspective. I'd be down for a more official implementation of Clan Invasion events as an expansion for 5Mercs, though.
Just started Dragon's Gambit in 5M, I know the running joke in Battletech is there are no good sides, just various shades of messed up, but Jesus fucking christ is there something in the Combine water that compels every protest that occurs in their territory to be met with some kind of ultraviolent crackdown?Do these people really have no chill?
>>22940916The Bushido larp is a hell of a drug anon.
>>22941355If you want a picture of the Kuritan future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face. Forever.
>>22931009>>22933510Is the cartoon any good?
>>22942691Its a pretty good primer on the battletech universe in its broadest strokes. But it is still a kids toy commercial so don't set your bar too high. Has really good music and a fantastic voice cast though.
>>22942691It is, in every sense of the phrase, a Saturday Morning Cartoon take on Battletech.Yeah it's pretty alright, but also pretty dumb.
In Mechwarrior 5 Mercenaries, can you play through the dlc during the main campaign mode or are they only accessible in the sandbox career? The dlc icons are only next to start a new career button, new campaign has nothing.
>>22943583All available in the campaign. Basically you just get a message being like hey want to do missions for us and then you go and do them and it locks you in until they are done.
Uh oh.
>>22943583Already answered but to tack on, yeah if you slow roll your story campaign long enough you'll find yourself being pestered to do the dlc campaigns. They're not post-game hard but they're set up to be incredibly grindy on your resources and rarely if ever giving you the time to complete repairs between individual missions. That said, there's a strong expectation that you complete the main story, as at the very least the entire premise for Dragon's Gambit is written under the assumption you've done so.You'll know when they fire off. The game makes it really clear when you're about to commit to a DLC campaign. It's actually kinda hype whenever they fire off.
It's a solid 6/10 and a massive improvement over MW5Also Cordera Perez did nothing wrong
is expert actually different from normal or does the enemy just do more damage?
>>22944447For mercs or clans?Mercs difficulty is a scaling modifier on top of the baked in reputation difficulty curve, as I recall it was patched into the game and there should be a blog post about it from PGI.Clans probably does the same thing; things cost more, enemies fight more optimally, less margin for error, etc.
>>22944532Yea meant for clans.
I was thinking, I really like that Clans is more linear. It was a short tight experience that got me back in and after finishing it I immediately reinstalled Mercs to settle in for a longer open campaign.
when is no-weight mod/cheat so I can have fucking fun. Let me delete this "melee" bullshit in exchange for me ton.
>>22944627Just use cheat engine, which, surprisingly, this time didn't want to force me to buy a modengine subscription.
