The first movie actually holds up as a solid kid superhero movie. Turbo is dogshit, though.
>>
I think I was 3 when I saw this movie in preschool. The one thing I remembered about it at the time was the little kid being the Blue Ranger.
>>
>>22930483
Still better than the 2017 movie

I remember enjoying it as a child. Which is all that matters. Not interested in what fags think about it with 2024 eyes.

The first movie was a perfect isolated moment in western toku.

In terms of production it gave a lot of higher quality props that were used in Turbo and in Space, so even if it was bad, it was worth.

He actually wasn't that bad in the show and was actually a pretty competent ranger.
>>
>>22930960
Was him being a ranger meant to capitalize on Beetleborgs having kids as the main characters since Beetleborgs was doing better than Power Rangers at the time?
>>

Beats me.

Apparantly his actor's a total douchebag now.

>>
>>22932028
I think they're talking about Blake Foster (Justn's actor) badmouthing the kid who played the Gold Ranger in that show.
>>
>>22932041
He called him a weenie, and everyone including other former PR actors laughed at Justin for thinking the Cousin Oliver of Power Rangers had any room to say that.
>>
>>22932028
To add apparently he was campainging to return as Justin this time as the Gold Ranger for Beast Morphers, but not only didn't get the part but he must've been salty that the Gold is a nerdy kid (who's probably meant to be like what if Billy becomes the 6th Ranger).

I'd be jealous too if I know that the Beast Morphers Gold actor gets to act alongaide the immaculate Neil Breen
>>
>>22932869
I think he's just bitter that his obituary will read "RIP Blake Foster, the little kid blue ranger", and he can't even recapture his past by appearing on the show because most people don't like Justin. While the few who do aren't going to recognize a guy pushing 40 as the little boy from Turbo.
>>
>>22930960
I remember as a kid thinking it was stupid to have a kid ranger but making him a prodigy that skips grades so he can be in the same class as the other rangers. Like what was the point of making him a kid then?
>>
>>22932911
Because the cast were getting old, and they thought adding a kid would freshen things up. Then they realized that was stupid and replaced the entire cast with actors who were only a little younger.

Hey! He'll ALSO be "The bully from Casper Meets Wendy and 1 episode of Boy Meets World." At a point producers must have clocked that people hate this kid's face and want to see him get comeuppance of some kind.
>>
>>22932911
I guess they thought little kids would relate more to someone closer to their age rather than high schoolers played by 20 something year olds. Beetleborgs also had little kids as the main characters, so maybe they thought it would work for Power Rangers too.
>>22932913
Then he was the only one dropped from In Space aside from one guest appearance and hasn't appeared since.

2017>Turbo>Original

The original movie was remarkably bad when I rewatched it recently. Tons of really obvious plot inconsistencies, characters outside of the random kid seem barely motivated, and the fight at the end is a wet fart with bad CG (somewhat forgivable) and boring choreography. Also the tiny fakeout at the end with Zordon is just lame. The fight near the beginning is alright, Ooze is alright as a hammy villain, and the bikini girl was kinda hot. That's about it

I rewatched Turbo right after and there's really nothing much to comment on. It felt like a long episode of the show. It's funny that it somewhat resembles Carrangers setup with a magical space troll, despite not using any of that footage or the costume. The pirate ship is super random too. Adds production value I guess. Cool monsters by the Chiodo brothers, the characters seem more engaged in the plot than the original, divatox is hot, that's about it.

I watched the 2017 movie right after and it was shocking to suddenly be watching a real movie. It was the best one but that's hardly fair considering the budget and talent involved. Compared to any other movies but the other two PR movies, it was pretty bad. Some of the most embarrassing product placement I've ever seen. Actually Adam Sandler tier. I don't need to tell anyone on /m/ how bad all the robot and suit stuff was.

Thanks for reading my blog
>>
>>22934219
Switch the original and Turbo, and I agree. All of the PR movies are shitty even when you take into account they're movies for little kids. I still have a soft spot for the first one because I used to watch it dozens of times decades ago, but I admit cheesy nostalgia is the only thing I get from it these days.
>>
>>22934397
>Le everything is shit XD
>>
>>22934456
>thinks everything is Power Rangers
There are plenty of good movies, anon. It's just PR doesn't have any. Even if you limited the scope to other 1995 movies for kids, I'd rather rewatch Jumanji, Toy Story, or A Goofy Movie over the '95 Power Rangers film. Not Heavyweights though. That movie sucked.
>>
>>22934397
I dunno if the 2017 movie was really aimed at little kids. I think little kids would have found it boring, and one of the first lines in the movie was a joke about jerking off a bull.

It probably should have been aimed at kids. Kids and manchildren (charitably: nostalgic adults) are the only people who would want to see Power Rangers, and yet the movie is clearly aimed at 13-18 year olds for some reason.
>>
>>22934471
It should have been, but I understand why the execs aged it up because teenagers have money for movie tickets. Little kids don't, and movies specifically aimed at little kids as opposed to general audiences often need great word of mouth from parents going "Wow, this shit I took my toddler to was actually pretty good!" to become successful. But the problem there is they'll never make a critically acclaimed Power Rangers movie unless a miracle happens.
>>
All Power Rangers 2017 needed to be was a colorful-yet-taken-seriously superhero movie, like the first Avengers movie. Fun, exciting, action-packed, and enjoyable for the whole family but not necessarily specifically for little kids. I can't believe the MCU was printing money by doing crazy shit like Hulk and Thor and Guardians of the Galaxy and just being earnest and serious with them, and meanwhile Power Rangers was shitting itself and embarrassed about its source material.
>Sorry, we know brightly colored Rangers are stupid, we'll change them.
>Sorry, we know robots that actually look like dinosaurs are silly, we'll change them.
>Sorry, we know Alpha looking like a Star Wars droid is silly, we'll change him.
>Sorry, we know Rita's hair-hat-horns are silly, we'll change them.
>Sorry, we know Goldar, Finster, Squatt, and Baboo working for Rita is too silly, we won't do them.
>Sorry, we know Bulk and Skull are too silly or problematic or something, we won't do them either.
Like holy shit, this wasn't 2005, when the Fox X-Men movies were embarrassed of Wolverine's yellow suit and the Ghost Rider movie made Blackheart a human emo boy. This was 2017, after the MCU had made eleventy billion dollars by making Tom Hiddleston wear a stupid ass golden goat helmet for three movies in a row. This was after Christopher Nolan made The Dark Knight - a film people say is either the best superhero movie ever, or is just a great movie period - where Nolan said "The Joker actually has to look like The Joker, or else he's just some weird clown asshole." Why did the PR17 crew think it was still the early 2000s?

They were trying to cash in on that Adi Shankar film, which for all its edge, was what the public thought it wanted from Power Rangers
>>
>>22935917
They weren't trying to cash in on that specifically, but they were definitely conscious of the public perception of PR as low-budget, rainbow-colored schlock. The big problem is that doing the obvious thing, make MMPR but with a real budget, isn't gonna work because of the money you'll need. The 2017 movie was over $100 million, and it still looked like they were cutting corners.

But since Godzilla Minus One was only $15 million, the other concern is Hollywood has a really bad inflation problem going on.
>>
>>22930483
No, it was bad. The most retarded thing is the producers had to know the motif that year would be cars, but then decided to set it in the fucking ocean where the cars are gonna have almost zero screentime. It didn't occur to them to make a road movie, or do Fast and the Furious before Vin Diesel did it?
>>
>>22937310
>The big problem is that doing the obvious thing, make MMPR but with a real budget, isn't gonna work because of the money you'll need. The 2017 movie was over $100 million, and it still looked like they were cutting corners.
MMPRTM managed to do it. Surely a movie nowadays would be able to surpass, or at the very least match, a crappy '90s kids movie?
>>
>>22937543
>MMPRTM managed to do it.
That final fight was so bad though. CGI that was garbage even back then.
>>
I've watched Turbo a couple of times, both with a gaggle of nerds from around here.
We had a nice enough time, and the second time it was noticed that AJJ was very sweating and tied up and legs, and sure enough Sakamoto is in the end credits
>>
>>22937476
I remember there not being an explanation why they can't use the Zeo powers anymore. I just remember Kat falling and trying to use morph to save herself, but she hits the water before it happens. Did her morpher get damaged? I think there was also a deleted scene meant to explain the change too.
>>
Speaking of Zeo, I find it funny that they made a racing game of it before Turbo came out. I'm sure if they waited Turbo would have made more sense for a racing game. Also, I think Carranger, the series Turbo was based on, also got a game but it was a platformer.
>>
>>22938034
Yeah, supposedly there was going to be a scene where the Zeo Rangers fought Divatox's forces but the Zeo suits get all messed up. Which is a laughable notion, considering these suits survived multiple full-scale assaults from the Machine Empire. I'm not sure if this scene has ever been officially confirmed, though.

>had to skip being the show version because of maternity leave

At least it gave us an actual Megazord combination sequence and an exciting finisher. I'll take bad CGI over "the Zords fall into a hole and the Megazord climbs out" and "the Megazord just kinda stabs Goldar and Goldar melts" any day.
>>
>>22938034
There were some pics of the scripts and production and apparently the Zeo power were destroyed or inactive under circumstances from the movie and the only one they kept, but without context was the one from Kat.
Also, that removed part also explained why the MMPR suits disappeared from the Power Chamber.
>>
>>22940202
>that removed part also explained why the MMPR suits disappeared from the Power Chamber.

Wouldn't explain why there's only 5 chambers now instead of 6.

They tried to erase all evidence of the Shankar short prior to announcing the remake
Shankar's had the right tone and aesthetic
Less Michael Bay, more "Kamen Rider The First/The Next"

Yes. They thought kids were starting to lose interest in a bunch of teens (actually 20 somethings) as heroes so they thought putting an actual kid in would make them identify with him more.
