=READ THE GUIDE=

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.

For the unclear, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!

And don't forget to report shitposting and spam.

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post images whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting images.

>Why are my pictures sideways?
4chan strips EXIF data from images when they're uploaded to the site from your phone, including the orientation display tag. To fix this, save your images separately, or use an app that will rotate and save the images for you.
One commonly used app that works well on Android:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.simplemobilephotoresizer

Saying any amount is asswipe money is retarded, i don't see you handing 20s to bums or ordering a 20$ cup of coffee

Newfag here. Completed the HG Z'gok i asked about the other day and it looks great... from a distance. From up close you can see these tiny bumps where the nubs used to be and I can't seem to get rid of them with my knife nor with sanding. Is my blade not sharp enough? What do you do abou them?
>>
>>22932222
You'll never get rid of them completely without painting but you can get get it 90% of the way with sanding & topcoating the kit.
>>
>>22932222
sometimes all you can do is paint
a clear coat might make it almost invisible though

>>
>finished snapshitting together a Metal Gear Rex
>still trying to figure out how the fuck I'm going to paint it
Some parts seem kinda flimsy and I'm worried about breaking them, should I just keep the disassembly to a minimum and go wild with the masking tape?
>>
>>22932222
>is my blade not sharp enough?
nub marks aren't purely in the shape of the plastic. there can also be changes in stuff like pigment density as a result of the injection process, meaning the mark will be partially visible no matter how much material you remove because the plastic is actually another color.
>>
>>22932238
Rex, like many Koto kits can be delicate
the railgun and radom in particular are prone to snapping
if you're doing a basic design it'd be easy enough to paint in large chunks probably, but it depends on what you want to do
>>
What's the absolute minimum temperature I can paint at ?

You're better off replacing it. If the sticker is peeling off it will already have accumulated dirt under what little adhesive is left, so it will look off even if you attempt to glue it back on. Might as well use the opportunity to slap some water transfer decals and top coat that shit.

I've happily picked up the HG for Shining and am waiting eagerly for the RG. Is there any reason to get the HG for the God Gundam if I already have the RG, however? Getting the SDs would be perfectly fine, since they can't really compare to one another, and it's just more content for the Shining/God Gundam altar, but I don't know if the HG would bring anything new to the table.

It's all on what equipment you like. Still, the first two Expansion Sets are still limited to P-Bandai by technicality, as they have no plans to release it in specific loadouts at all. But I seriously doubt they'll do it again with the Red Shoulder Custom because they are few and far between with Chirico's team and their exclusive parts, each spread out between the three expansion sets, but only one Red Shoulder piece (a recolored F plate).

Oh, wait! There are just way too many loadouts to assemble with the three sets. We got Turbo Custom, Red Shoulder Custom, Burglary Dog, loadouts for various named characters, and the Brutish Dog, the same one Fyana used, and they gave you a painting guide to make that design. Why a painting guide? It means they doubt they will make the Brutish Dog as a standalone release, so they make you buy the expansion sets and reward you for it by the time you get the fifth set.

I started with a chink brush+compressor with tank combo (~$100), chink spray booth (~$100), and however much for the assorted stuff like airbrush pot, gloves, ppe, stirring sticks etc. For paint, I just started with what I needed + a few varying shades of gray+black/white, all lacquers. I have a local store that sells Mr Hobby stuff so I just picked up whatever I needed when I needed it. Early on I also picked up handpainting+reverse washing w/ enamels but I only ever really use black, silver, gold, and a few grays. I upgraded to a madworks jetman jm-00 after the first kit because I knew I would keep going after that. Not sure if I would recommend that brush specifically, I'm not an airbrush expert but it seems pretty good and was significantly better than the no brand chink brush but the mac valve on the front bottom gets in the way of the airbrush pot.

well much of the price is to make up the cost of manufacturing the mold. the PS plastic itself is cheap. so reruns after the mold is already finished years ago are actually a larger profit margin than new kits.
>>
>>22932899
The price hike next year is for the reprint. Future releases will soon equal to Kotobukiya but with bunch of stickers and compromised details on top of that. Koto was playing the game by the rule meanwhile Bandai has been cheating and now the exploit got patched.

I think Bandai has been trying to pander to lowest common denominator and now the side effect kicks in. I remember how alot of old, pre-articulation era kits have some excellent mold in spite of bad color separation. The hand looked solid. However, as time passed, Bandai's kits started to look worse. The hand sculpting nowadays look like this. While this seems like a meaningless nitpicking and bitching from me, it is still a prove of how Bandai willing make their kits look gummy, ugly and easily accessible to everyone, even toddlers. Do you need to carefully dissamble the hands to make it hold the weapon? Fuck it, just insert the handle as these ugly hands support that. The cheap price is also a part of their plan, making sure everyone can buy them instead of letting their products get regulated to wealthy manchild. Quantity instead of quality. And now, Japanese economy is going south, we have both awlful looking kits and increased price, just because.

this might be a dumb question, but I'm new to plamo

Some kits I want to be able to handle a lot, not too unlike an action figure. So it might not be best to paint them, right? Or... Is it perfectly fine if you topcoat well? Is it OK to handle lacquer or whatever topcoats and they aren't at all toxic?

I want to get the new AC6 kits and handle/swap parts, but it feels alittle wrong for those amazing kits to not have their armor painted well.

One thing Japanese companies are typically great at is holding prices for as long as possible but some sort of increase was inevitable. I'm sure this means HGs will be £25-30 in the UK now which I'm absolutely not interested in paying even if I can afford it without issue. HGs just aren't worth that price 99% of the time.
>>

Can't you just not paint the ball-joints, clips and the like?
>>

you can also paint it as one piece, turn the joint, then paint any missed areas. the only con is that the joint will be as loose as a snapshit since there's no paint in the joints to thicken them.
>>
>>22933039
But as far as handling the painted body, fingers rubbing on it, going and eating after, it's all fine right? Afaik the topcoats gunpla use, like polyeurothan, lacquer etc, are very durable, much moreso than what miniature painters use on average. And once cured, it's not toxic to the touch, right?

I knew that, I was sold on 30MF immediately, so when the lore dropped, I was ready to see what was what. I was hoping they'd be giants who patroned human groups in small numbers. Like a big kingdom could expect a few dozen or so maybe, and a bandit clan would have their 1-3 backing up human armies on a battlefield. Kind of like the robots in Knight's & Magic, but autonomous. It's a 30 minute line so any official "lore" is more suggestion anyways; so I'm gonna keep my headcanon and enjoy the line that way. Whenever I can actually buy some that is.

>>
>>22933061
that's what they said about netflix subscription fees. then it becomes a problem, now that every app and their mom start charging for subscriptions.
>>
>>22933075
speaking of that, it was fucking weird how the RG 2.0's hands were engineered. it's divided in a weird way that the top half includes a half of one of the fingers and the lower half attaches to it by sliding against it, then is secured by the hand guard. i mean what's a fucking logic behind it, aside from making it annoying to assemble?
>>
>>22933077
The slippery slope never ends, anon. This is just a foreplay of whats to come. Bandai will raise the price slowly until it matches the normal modelkit market price. They only raise 2 dollars for now so it won't look bad.

I could see them dipping more into their obvious enemy grunt designs and using those for Orcs, Trolls, etc. like the goblin zakus from that one SD gundam line. Also, dragons or demons seem kind of obvious. I mean, if they're already magical there's no real point in imposing the limit of "logic."
>>
>>22933088
Yeah about that, my fear is that the dragons or demons won't have gigantic scale. in Hexa Gear line, you can see obvious scale differences between mechanical dragons, birds compare to human kits. However, 30MF knights look quite big. If this line debuts a dragon kit, it should be a super huge kit and i won't take compromised baby dragon.

They just put out a giant golden dragon model kit as a general release. They sold Blue-eyes last year; And a giant sand-golem between those. I don't think they'll have issue at all selling size. It's the price that people will need to reckon with, I think. Blue-eyes is about eye-level with a liber knight, so maybe not SUPER imposing at the moment, but consider the tail and wingspan, that's like a drake. With a price hike on the horizon anyways, I don't think it's insane to assume Bandai would sell you another inch of plastic for $10-20

The sword variant hasn't been reprinted (and probably won't ever) so it's harder to find. Shield is from one of the Schwarzesmarken kits which rarely get resold for under 15k yen nowadays. As for whether it's worth it, entirely up to you. It's hardly in any major Muv-Luv content so I personally lean towards not caring as much for it, although I think the design is great. Just expect something closer to a big HG rather than an MG, although koto was pretty good for including parts-forming options for a lot of the TSF functions

If you live in Japan, sure. Now factor in that the distributor is going to increase their price because their wholesale price has gone up, shipping prices are going up AGAIN and then your online/local retailer is going to have to increase the price further to cover every other increase in the chain. The price increase is low in Japan because Japanese companies have an incentive to keep prices low as to not cause inflation due to their fucked economy and all of the production & distribution happens within the country itself. The price increases for the rest of the world will be much larger.

Will the pink/red spots make for a nice highlighting after the gold is sprayed on top ? The only tests I found are of said gold paint on top of different primers, including a bright pink one. There's not a massive difference between it and the rest of the primers.

That's not going to work, fluorescent paints are extremely weak, if you paint it over black or even grey it is going to end up as an ugly brownish color

>>22933717
you can get sub-50db compressors that are quieter than a vacuum cleaner. furthermore they have air tanks, so they only run to pressurize the tank and then auto shutoff and you can continue spraying. once the tank pressure drops low enough it will start back up again

smaller shittier compressors do not have built in tanks so they'll make more noise over all.

You're misunderstanding me slightly. Remember that the Bandai Namco group is a holdings company comprised of 100+ companies that report up to the Holdings company.

For example, when we talk about Gunpla, there isn't one single Bandai company involved. Sunrise makes Gundam and license BSP to make models. Bandai Spirits sells product to Bandai Namco Toys. Toys buys from other affiliates too, and ships through Bandai Logipal, which then ships to distributors, etc. All companies are under the Bandai Namco Holdings Group umbrella, but they are separate legal entities. Those entities can be non-profitable and the other entities will be forced by holding to pitch in and cover costs to prevent closures. Overall, the group is profitable, but those middleman entites can not be.

The subsidising I was refering to was the entertainment(Video Game) division using money to keep other middleman entities afloat because it is better longterm to keep that company afloat than let it die for the good of the group.

RG RX-93 V GUNDAM vs RG RX-93-v2 Hi Nu Gundam?
>>
They’re not actually going to have tariffs right? Surely all the rich people that are backing these politicians will tell them not to vote for it since it will lose them money.

MG GP01 Ver.2.0 when?
>>
>>22933941
The Hi Nu's nicer.

They don’t make those anymore
>>
>>22933950
Won't have time to test, was asking on the offchance someone did a similar thing. I'm going to get maybe 3 hours to paint, then it'll be over for the year. Could also just mix some metallic red in the gold and do the highlights after, that's probably the better option
>>
>>22933291
The don't look anything like 30MS, they're copies of MD Susanoo

This but MG? The Hi Nu Ver Ka looks so good
>>
>>22933914
Bro why are you posting my list, get your own.
>why is it Red Frame such fucking trash
I don't like the design which is why it went in F. Mechanically there's not really any issues with it. In hindsight I should have moved Zeta to D since it's one of the nicer looking Zeta kits but the torso is a major weak point due to the transformation gimmick.
>>
RG GP03 when?
>>
>>22933974

They're both good. Pick the one you like the look of the most.
>>
Why does everyone hype RG God so much. Nu I get, its really well done but I feel God color palette is trashy.
>>
>>22933991
Just paint it retard. Injection color literally doesn’t matter. Rg god is good for the molding and parts separation
>>
>>22934000
But anon, the whole point of RGs is that you don’t have to paint it. They’re supposed to look good OOB.

Do you guys have any recommendations for relatively cheap spray booths for lacquer paints, or are the cheap ones on Amazon fine? Apparently they work for lacquers but barely, and I'd rather not risk it.
>>
>>22934113
Cheapest is build it yourself:
>old plastic storage bin: free
>chink led strips: $10
>chink ducting: $15
>chink inline duct fan: like $70
>furnace filter: like $2 at home depot
>>
>>22934017
RG God is like one of the best kits out there.
>>
>>22934130
There are no “best” kits. All kits are good if you put work into them.
>>
>>22934017
>nopaints thinks "paint your kits you lazy retard" is bandai shilling
>>
>>22933914
I like gundams with swords as their gimmick, which is my best option
>>
>>22934150
Shut up, a good kit means one that needs less work to look good. If every kit is good then no kit is and you've just deprived a word of meaning where it might have had meaning.
>>
>>22934165
Rg sword impulse. It’s peanut butter though. Other than that get one of the astrays
>>
>>22934153
It absolutely is. Color accuracy and parts separation are the fundamentals of a good kit.
>>
Give it to me straight, anons. What are my chances of living to see a Lfrith Jiu reprint?

color separation is important because it makes painting easier.

>>22934165
Out of the retail RG kits, the astrays are your only real option. The RG Sword impulse is PBandai, as is the destiny impulse. There's a strike rouge that has the grand slam sword but it's a gundam base exclusive.

>>
>>22933773

>>
>>22934269
It's the 1980 kit.
>>
>>22934272
No it’s perfectly fine. There are no bad kits, only bad modelers.
>>
>>22934282
Ok well is there a risk of it breaking or exploding if I'm a bad modeler
>>
>>22934282
RG Justice is one of the most unfun kits I own.
>>
>>22934284
Yeah. In general most of the earlier RGs are like that. This really only started changing with the generation of RGs that came after the RG unicorn. Those are the ones you’ll find are similar in quality to the RG God.
>>
Mighty Strike Freedom looks 20000x better than Strike Freedom so just wait for the RG of that
>>
>>22934263
I got similar proportions...
>>
>>22934284 #
If you like the strike freedom visually then there's much better options at other grades. It will need a bit of work out of the box to keep bits from falling off. It is absolutely not at the level of quality as the RG God but the same can be said for nearly all of the RG kits pre unicorn. If it's very cheap, like half of retail price, then maybe it's worth it if you're willing to put in a bit of work but it's a kit you'll not want to play around with much as the early RG inner frames can degrade pretty fast.
>>
>looking into what RGs got made after the Unicorn
>the only ones I'd really want are the Crossbone and Sazabi, maybe Nu if I think the EG + HG parts really won't cut it
>Eva's good but it'd be better to get the more expensive one with more parts, but there are cheaper options for the Eva
>maybe the Tallgeese if I'm bored or finish Wing
The RG Shining looks like it shares parts with RG God, so here's hoping it's at least a good kit
>>22934290
>>22934308
I was told the initial gimmick/appeal was an almost completely pre-built frame for the RG, whereas for the RG God it was just maybe the hands and wrists that were pre-built and the rest I had to do, so I take it that pre-Unicorn ones all have pre-built frames that degrade, but how bad is it? How much work needs to go into it, just tightening a few parts and joints? The friend sort of really wants it off his hands and I feel bad, I've seen the Strike Freedom at 35 CAD so he said he can sell it for 30.
Also how is the Z'gok praised if it came out before the Unicorn, it looked harmless from a review I watched, but still
>>
>>22934315
I have the rg z’gok and it’s fine. It’s usually considered one of the better earlier RGs, along with the mk-ii.
>>
Does Ray studio's soldiers of sorrow jingle have a full version? I've tried to look for the upbeat version but I cant find it.
>>
>>22934326
Is this what you're talking about?:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDy0W3tMHek
>>
>>22934315
I'm the person that made the tier list posted earlier. It is completely subjective and based off a mixture of my visual preferences and the engineering of the kit. I'm not a astray fan and the build itself really isn't interesting so I have it low on the list.
>I was told the initial gimmick/appeal was an almost completely pre-built frame for the RG
Initially yes but that hasn't been true for a while. Think of RGs as mini MGs.
>how bad is it?
Depends on the kit and how much you handle it. The Sinanju for example uses the exact same MS frame as the RG MKII and it can't handle all the extra weight so out of the box, it can't hold it's shield or gun up. Multiple pieces of armour will fall off unless glued.
>just tightening a few parts and joints?
Pretty much.
>Also how is the Z'gok praised if it came out before the Unicorn
Because it's to my taste. I like how the RG Zgok looks that I'm willing to overlook & deal with the issues of the MS frame. That being said, I tend to pose my kits once and not touch them so my version has no issues right now.
>he can sell it for 30.
Watch some videos, read some reviews, decide if it sounds like too much hassle for you. Also don't buy the EG Nu, just get the RG.
>>
Does anybody have the MG Exia kit? I want an Exia in 1/100 but I’ve heard some bad things about this one. Debating whether to get the MG or RG.
>>
>>22934329
Thats one of them, but I'm also looking for a full version of this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ym96rPK_ne4
>>
>>22934334
MG is too old at this point. We've heard leaks that Bandai is planning a revision; either a 2.0 using the CB frame or an MGEX with a Trans-Am color changing gimmick so hold off on those.
>>
>come home from backbreaking labor work
>"finally, time to work on my group buil-"ZZzzzzZ
>>
>>22934324
The Mk II too? How did the Mk II turn out ok? I'm assuming the Z'Gok made it out ok bc of the way its unconventional skeleton ended up not withering or exploding
>>22934331
Why didn't you make an objective list...
>mini MGs
The RG God Gundam makes me want to get into MGs but I don't know what's a good start that's not outdated, the Master Gundam seemed a bit aged.
>Sinanju can't handle the weight at all
Can you even tighten the frame if it's already pre-built
>Pretty much.
As long as nothing's at risk of breaking, I wouldn't rule any of these out then, but the Strike Freedom looked a bit fragile due to the pretty wings.
>I tend to pose my kits once and not touch them so my version has no issues right now.
I'd probably play around with it a lot, so maybe I'll stick with the HG for now then.
I'll watch another review for the Strike Freedom, the review praised it well but I think it was also reviewed when it came out. I already have the EG Nu, I was given three funnels, the bazooka, beam saber bits, and the HWS parts from the HG

Then where is the citations to proove this? Your ass? Bandai doesn't just rely on shits like videogame and toys to remain afloat, they have investors, advertisers, liscencing and many more. And Bandai grew big because their financial reports are impressive, shits actually profitable and it pleases the outside interests.
