How is your backlog going, /m/en?
>>
Watched the Kamen Rider Geats Extras and epilogue movie, they were fine for what they were. Why doesn't Toei make a full on Shinobi miniseries? And why is ZX count as a ninja hero now?
>>
>>22933779
I don't have one because my hobby is not a job.
>>
I just watch the same shows over and over again.
>>
Finished Nadesico but haven't watched the movie, enjoying Votoms so far
>>
>>22934076
How far with VOTOMS?
Each arc has a very different feel so it's interesting to see how people's thoughts on it change the farther in they get

Finished ep 9, his good friends used the gold they got to save Chirico and he's starting to warm up. I had a vague feeling and hope that the supporting cast would be endearing and I was thankfully right. A bit weird to hear Dr Hell as a supporting character though.
I think SRW30 spoiled that Chirico is married at some point, and I assumed he was in his 30s, but if he's just 18 here, I'm assuming he gets married to the weirdo android/mystery lady. Beyond that, I'm in for surprises. A bit surprised Chirico's so young, and I'm also not sure why I keep getting Macross vibes, especially during the next episode previews. Getting reminded of Hokuto no Ken as well, but I think that's just because it's just a stoic and powerful protag in a filthy and dogshit world, with a handful of cheery friends by his side. Oh, and I guess everyone who's acquainted with him wants him dead..
And I finally know the context to picrel now
>>
>>22934205
>I think SRW30 spoiled that Chirico is married at some point
No, he never gets married. I'll just say Chirico had good cause to be hanging out with Van in 30 and leave it at that

>I'll just say Chirico had good cause to be hanging out with Van in 30 and leave it at that
But that means his wife is dead...
Wait maybe not
https://files.catbox.moe/zxo2qx.jpg
Considering you can't really make dead people happy. Well, here's hoping the lady makes it out alright, she seems to vaguely be watching out for him.
>>
>>22934243
I'm not sure at what point in the VOTOMS timeline Chirico 30 is from, but I know that he at least does come from before a specific point.
Anyway, you're about done with the first arc. A lot of people say their favorite is the second because of the whole Vietnam war vibes it has going for it. I prefer the first arc, actually. I think the show is at its best when it's focusing on the whole conspiracy angle, and I do think Rochina is the best character. You don't really see too much of him between the first and fourth arcs though
>>
>>22934259
Hmm, hopefully his wife(?) is still alive, could have lived without being spoiled
>A lot of people say their favorite is the second because of the whole Vietnam war vibes it has going for it. I prefer the first arc, actually. I think the show is at its best when it's focusing on the whole conspiracy angle
Well the mystery did get me invested a bit, while the cast kept it from feeling too lonely and dark. It would have felt slower if he was stuck in any prisons or camps for too long and thankfully he wasn't, but I definitely wouldn't mind a change of setting.
>Rochina
I think he's a giant ass but I also recognize he's probably just doing his job, and Chirico's just one person compared to whatever's happening, and for all he knows, Chirico IS being backed by some other faction to worry about
>>
Was watching Sonic X and suddenly, Norio Wakamoto was voicing a MOTW character.
>>
>>22934280
Rochina knows some things that the show hasn't revealed to you yet, so that's part of it
It makes me wonder how far in advance the franchise was planned, I think at one point he even directly references Pailsen, who is an important figure of some of the later prequel OVAs
>>
>>22934293
No yeah, I get that
It'll get revealed eventually, I guess
That would be pretty impressive if true, otherwise I know there's some people who can work a lot of magic with vague namedrops and backstories
>>22934285
Is it the plant lady
>>
>>22934285
I think Noriko Hidaka voiced Helen, the wheelchair girl, in that show too.

I finished the whole VOTOMS franchise and all its OVAs, now I'm playing through Armored Core 6.
>>
Watched FLAG recently. Liked it a lot
>>
>>22933779
My kits? Demolished. I had two sitting in the wings for a bout a year and got them done this month.

Anime in general? Endless. I kept getting burnt out and tabbing out because every show I try to watch feels like it's dragging its feet and wasting my time.
>>
>>22933779
I wonder if I should get back to this series or read the manga.
>>
>>22937119
Is there a manga? I thought there was only an anime and LN.
>>
>>22934137
I dropped it during the 'Nam arc, is that considered a high or low point of the show?
>>
I want to watch more Macross, but 7 was so boring, man. I don't know if I should go on. I had the same issue with Gundam and victory.
>>
>>22937160
Yes. I own the first volume.
>>
>>22933840
Never understood this meme
If you get into a genre, it's natural to have a list of stuff you want to watch
>>
>>22938240
Not really.
>>
I finished episode 2 of Gun X Sword. I like Western themed settings so adding mechs to that is a good combo. Still need to get back to Tosho Daimos since I stopped watching at some point and just never continued it. Also I’ve got the Mazinger Z bluray coming since it was on sale. I’ve seen Shin Mazinger, Mazinkaiser (OVA and movie), and Infinity but this will be the first time I’ll be watching the original so I’m excited
>>
>>22938240
Tourist just watch whatever is FOTM and that's all.
>>
>>22938240
I mean, I guess when you're discovering the genre and all the shows, it's good to make a list -- especially for anime, where it's easy to forget the names. This list should never be long, though, and you shouldn't feel obligated to follow it -- half the time, I just rewatch Braves and Gundam!
>>
>>22938340
Gun X Sword picks up and I'm glad you're excited about Mazinger Z, I legitimately did not ever think that it had any weak episodes. Great got a bit lower in quality but was still pretty good if you're trying to look for things to enjoy. Here's hoping you like Toeizinger!
>>
>>22938351
>half the time, I just rewatch Braves and Gundam!
is that why I haven't been seeing many posts from you lately?
can't say I blame you, I just keep playing old video games instead of finally getting around to watching those Baxinger and Sasuraiger BDs I bought years ago
At least you're getting around to VOTOMS
>>
>>22939150
That wasn't me, I'm me, but I get why you thought it was. I don't know if I'd regularly rewatch Gundams that aren't G Gundam though. Nadesico was very fun as well, not something I'd mind rewatching.
Going through a hard drive I was given from a friend, there's a lot of good shows, and unrelatedly Evangelion. Made multiple attempts to finish the anime and manga but something always came up (I remember liking the manga, but caught up to the translations and forgot to check them again), but I only realized recently that it's a measly 26 episodes. 2eps a day and then it's just 2 weeks to finish a court-mandated show. Or I could just go for something I'm more likely to enjoy. I'm always happy to try new things, it just needs several weeks of being pushed out of uncertainty.
I also don't have a list, even though I do have a file where I write names down, I don't actually consult it, only chuck names of obscure shows I might forget.
>>
>>22938351
alright my bad, sorry dude

>>22939163
watching Eva is only as mandatory as your desire to engage with Eva threads, which are always shitshows
I got you to try Demonbane and Digimon awhile back, I don't think you ever finished either, so try not to forget about them
>>
>>22939187
I want to at least have my own opinion on it, instead of half-assumptions, relying on others, and something like picrel.
>Demonbane and Digimon
I gotta
>try not to forget about them
I won't! They're still saved on my hard drive.
>>
>>22939194
all I'm saying is that I can't remember the last time there was legitimate Eva discussion on this board, almost all Eva threads on /m/ are obvious bait and they rarely even come up anymore. They're probably more common on /a/, but the only thing /a/ is interested in discussing is Rei vs Asuka vs Misato
>>
>>22939209
I'd imagine it's a bit difficult, because it's such a well-known and influential yet divisive franchise. Yeah, I don't know where or when I could talk about it. Hopefully things'll come around.
>the wife war
Misato > Asuka > Rei because I have issues, Asuka was more emotive and I didn't like stoic girls or short hair as a kid.
I'd have to re-evaluate this with an actual watch though, partly due to the fact that Rei gets longer hair in the movies apparently.
>>
>>22939209

>>
>>22937465
Macross 7 you gotta like the songs if not its pretty boring.
>>
>>22940205
Why are you even watching macross if you don't care about music.
>>
I finished Studio Deen's AWOL. It was a pretty neat show. It's got a bunch of cool remote-controlled triangle laser ships and helicopters, as well as ships that look like a combination of the Enterprise and White Base and a pretty neat terrorist ship. There were some great space fleet battles, a cool long-range asteroid belt battle, and an amazing ending. I have no idea why this show is so disliked; it's nothing groundbreaking but it's still quite enjoyable with a great ending if you like space stuff. I also started Ehrgeiz, AWOL's companion show, and the colony is pretty neat (though I always like seeing different kinds of space colonies).
>>22940242
Because transforming robots and space cities are cool. Macross should not be an idol/romance franchise; it should be more like Yamato.
>>
>>22940304
>Macross should not be
But it is, now fuck off.
>>
Currently about halfway through the 2001 Cyborg 009. It kind of meanders for a while between "defeating" Black Ghost and the Mythos arc, but I feel like it's starting to pick up again.
>>
>>22940242
I mean most people agree the Minmay songs are dogshit
>>

>>
>>22940347
It ain't that hard to search for song names in the archive. What can I say? A lot of people don't like Mari Ijima songs
I don't feel strongly about them one way or the other though
>>
>>22940339
That doesn't seem to support most people thinking they're "dogshit".
>>
>>22940328
Yep, pretty much. I've given it several chances, and I even liked the Zentradi finding peace with humans due to discovering culture and something other than war. Yet, at the same time, the romance felt VERY forced. I can get why people liked it at the time, and the designs and some of the episode plots are still good to this day, but it's not the classic people tend to think it is.
>>22940333
I've seen worse anime than AWOL (looking at you, Unicorn and Grendizer U). I guess it speaks to how bad modern anime has become that 90s bottom-of-the-barrel trash looks good, especially compared to the stuff that's come out since then.

fr fr no cap macross finna be outdated clunky ahh ohio sigma aint ballin watch some dap nocap shows like Dandadan fr fr
>>
>>22940429
I'm not saying it's "outdated"; I'm saying it was a mediocre show that caught on only because of waifu nonsense, good designs, and mecha anime being harder to come by back then. There are plenty of amazing shows from that time -- Xabungle, Dairugger, Ideon, Dunbine, Votoms, Vifam, 0079, Trider G7, J9, Mospeada, and many more -- so that wasn't my point.

>>22940304
Why do we need two franchises that serve the same purpose? You can't even say that mecha anime hasn't seriously explored the themes of human and alien interaction when Dairugger, Gundam 00 Trailblazer and the Yamato remake exist.

Started Kamen Rider Gavv, three eps in and it makes me feel queasy like Shinkalion. Watched some OVAs in the form of I'm Not An Angel (okay), Nineteen (excellent), Business Commando Yamazaki (great, also /m/), and I Am Reiko Shiratori (meh). Managed to get two episodes into Kirameki Project, no idea how I missed this since I thought I watched all of Studio Fantasia's non-hentai discography. Started on Sunday Kyougoku Natsuhiko: Requiem From The Darkness (potential for 1/10), Kurozuka (looks cool), Battle Maidens: Time Paradox (kind of dumb), and Shiguri (ultra super serial) since I am so close to maxing out the historical achievement on MAL Graph. I thought of taking on Legends of The Galactic Heroes to kill time until ARR got off their butts to make Enma-kun available (not like Anitaku uploads raws and I wish they did).
>>
>>22942838
Welp, finished Kirameki Project this afternoon, it was quite horrible. The action and pacing were good, but everything else was subpar at best and obnoxious at worst. Like, shouldn't Europe have united to smash General Industries into the ground for humiliating their robots? Why was Junerin able to do super speed? What allowed Rincle to turn into vehicles? Shouldn't Kana have an entire staff to build Junerin? Why bring up a robot competition just so it would never be a factor? Why would America give an Albanian kingdom access to not-Gatchaman super suits? Too much was underwriten, no idea what VF-kun saw in this.
