His fighter jet was the only one who recognized him for what he is and as such he trusts his own fighter jet more than anyone else as such he thinks that he is only good as a pilot of Yukikazke. His only friend in contrast views him as something more than that. as the show progresses Later Rei himself realizes that he is much more than what he previously though he was. Yukikaze flourishes with him leading to the epic saving of humanity battle.
